  1. Because I live in an area where there is no fishing, I wanted to get out into Texas where the real bass fishing gets done. I do t have a boat so I called around about 6 different lakes and all had the same report. All bank fishing was limited and fish were slow. Well at least until I call Wbite River Lake, n ear Lubbock. The gentleman said the fishing was great and lots of access to bank fishing. So I called the boss and told him I was taking Friday off, packed the tent and cooler and drove my Happy behind 7 hours out the White lake. Go there at 5 am and set up site, got a map of the lake, and off fishing I went. I started at the shore line by the campsite. Water was extremely shallow and I'm sure the fish were already post spawn. Threw ever lure and soft bait I had and couldn't get a bite. I then decided to go check out the d**n, deeper water, and was told that no bank fishing. I then asked to local game warden where there were more spots, he told me there were hardly any. I was stuck at a tiny shoi e by the. A piste where there no fish! Miserable 3 day , only because the gentlemen that ran the marina lied to be to drum up business. Big learning experience for me!!
  2. And don't forget to take into consideration the timing of your trips. Water temp will play a big role in bass location. I would imagine that this time of year, they may be in a little deeper water. But I am not familiar with this particular lake so I may be way off.

  4. As my profile states, I have not yet made the leap for a boat and am limited to bank fishing. I am looking for suggestions of good bank fishing lakes in mid Texas. I love grabbing my tent and rods on a 3 day camping and fishing trip. Anyone have a good spot they could recommend?
  5. I agree with Angry John, MH rod flipping with a jig is great for heavy vegetation. Also could try a swim ain't with a jig, just need to make the swim bait weedless. I use a 7' MH rod with 20 lb braided and a fluorocarbon leader
  6. I live in El Paso Texas and have been swamped by reviews of the Rio Grande and its poor fishing representation. After my retirement from the Army, I started fishing up towards elephant butte, New Mexico but stayed on the Rio Grande side of its main dam. My first and second time out produced 7 3+lb largemouth. This experience so far has debunk all the negativity of fishing the Rio Grande. A must try if you are ever in the area!
