  1. I have heard both sides of the issue from many and use to tie my leaders directly. This year I started using a small swivel on one of my poles to test out and it has helped stop the line twist from transferring to the bait. So far no problems. I am sure you will hear other opinions for and against either method. I would use what ever you are comfortable with.
  2. I di see the title. That's why I said the type of mount has to be decided, flush or RAM type mount. I flush mounted mine in the bow to prevent any possibility of line tangle. :-?
  3. I'll be lucky if I just find the Chick!
  4. I'm a retired Marine. Never been to Afghanistan but was in Iraq in 2003.
  5. It also depends on where you want the transducer and if you want it flush or on a RAM type mount. I flush mounted one on my boat and opted for putting the transducer on the trolling motor vice using the transducer for the finder at the helm.
  6. I don't switch. I am right handed but have not been able to comfortably use a right hand retrieve reel.. All my reels are left hand retrieve.
  7. Sam, Got it and sent a reply. Thanks a million! Again, I will let you know how the kids do.

  9. Hey guys and gals. I am taking some kids fishing out of Chickahominy Riverfront Park the first part of April. None of us have ever fished there and i was hoping someone can tell me what to expect and maybe some areas to go to. We will be fishing for bass. I don't want or expect anyone to give up their secrets but just offer some info that would help me ensure the kids have a good trip. Thanks.
  10. Interesting bit of information. I work on Quantico and this is the first I've heard of this. >
  11. Both the ice breakers are open tournaments hosted by the Weekend Bassers club. This is the first year I will be fishing this but I have fished Motts quite a bit and my wife fishes there even more. Weboth do pretty wee there. There's no shad there so the shad looking lures/baits are out. Bluegill type baits and plastic worms are what we have had the best luck on. Ice Breakers 2 is on March 12th.
  12. I do the same.
  13. 44 here.
  14. I ended up winning it but only because I was the only one who caught a fish. It was 14" and 1.6 lbs! It also got me the big fish!
  15. I will be there. The wife and I fish it. If I remember correctly they have two of them. I'm not sure of the date tho.
  16. Interesting question and responses. There are a lot of good points brought up in the replies. I would have to say tha fishing is easier but catching is still the difficult part.
  17. It went very well. The weather was great. Water temp at dike 3 was about 51*. That was where the only fish was brought into the boat. 2.6 lbs. The young angler who caught it came in 4th place. One of the kids brought in 2 stripers (didn't count for the tourny) and they had a combined weight of just under 10 lbs. All the kids had a blast and all us old farts did too.
  18. All the bases I have fished on required base fishing permits. Quantico and AP Hill both require them in addition to state licenses but they are also open to the public unlike other bases that restrict fishing to military only.
  19. Ha Ha!! Thanks! ;D :
  20. There are a few spots you can reach from the bank but not too many. The ones I know of are along the road that goes over the dikes. Best bet is to Google Earth Lake Anna and see for yourself unless someone else out there can tell you the roads and give directions. I'll be on the cold side tomorrow for a tournament. It was scheduled to be on the hot side but we could not get a sponsor for the hot side.
  21. Boats all ready for me being a boat captain for the Orange County High School Jr angler tournament on Lake Anna tomorrow. Best of luck to all the anglers competing. To all other boat owners - take a kid fishing. It will change the way you look at fishing and at todays youth.
  22. Joined a bass club and fished my first club tournament and won! Here's the funny part..I was the only one who caught a fish! That also made my catch the big fish so I won that also! The bass was 1.6 lbs and 14 inches! The tournament was at lake Anna here in Virginia. Only 4 boats and 5 anglers!
  23. KWM85 - Steve is on the money. There's also Hunting run but it's a little farther west. I have fished all of them and have real good luck at all of them. Your experience level sounds about like mine and I have pulled a couple citations out of Motts. Another option is Lunga resevior on Quantico. Being military you can rent a boat from MWR there or you can fish the banks or one of the many docks they have around the camping area of the lake. Feel free to shoot me an email if you want more info.
  24. My wife and I have fished AP Hill several times. We hit three of the ponds but only one produces regularly for us. As far as boats, I believe they only allow non-gasoline boats. We use a 14 ft Jon boat with electric or kayaks. There is a pond (Beaver Pond I think) that is behind the athletic field that's about 1/2 mile from the gate by the housing area. Not much luck there but we only hit there twice. The pond we had tthe most lick in is Travis lake. There is the upper and lower lake because there is a causeway dividing it. We hit the upper mostly because it holds a fairly stable level of water. It has a small ramp and parking area but each time we went there was never more than 2 boats on the water including us. One trip we caught over 20 bass between us. No lunkers but there are some in there. Plenty of cover and lilly pads. Like Sam said before, you need to get a base fishing permit but that is painless. Again, watch your speed and do not carry any firearms on you or in your vehicle.
  25. Besides the right thing to do it is a matter of maritime law to render assistance.
