  1. I got the Abu Garcia Silvermax at Academy for like $70. I don't have any complaints from it.
  2. So how do people know how old a bass is? I know with deer you can look at their teeth, is there something you can look at on a bass and know about how old they are?
  3. I have read a few posts on here about world record bass being caught. These fish have got to be at a pretty decent age when they are caught to get to that size. How old do you think let's say a 10 lb bass is?
  4. Ned rig and any kind of senko bait will definitely catch you some fish. When fishing the bank don't necessarily cast straight out in to the middle of the pond. Cast parallel to the bank and work it back towards you.
  5. I went out for about an hour last night and caught 4 on it. Nothing worth bragging about, but still fun.
  6. I caught a fish the other night that's tail was all bloody and damaged looking. I have seen other pictures of bass that look this way. What causes this to happen?
  7. My grandpa gave me an old jitterbug he says he get back in the early 80s. Since he has given it to me it has been my main objective to catch one on it. Finally was able to land a decent one last night with it. Probably about 3.5. Love the action this lure has. You can reel it in real slow and the front of the lure just wobbles back and forth or you can really burn it across and let the lure just dance everywhere. I think this lure is going to become my new favorite topwater.
  8. Nothing better than the adrenaline rush of a decent one blowing up on your top water you are slowly working across the surface. Had a good 3lb destroy a jitterbug last night. Still thinking about that feeling this morning.
  9. Sounds like a name my grandpa gives a fish. "Jay, check out this whopperito I caught this weekend."
  10. You can't go wrong with a Senko type bait. I really like the Yum Dinger. If nothing else is working I can tie on one of these and almost always catch at least one to avoid the skunk. A lot of people on here like the Ned rig too. I have never tried one, but with so many people backing it that might be worth a try as well.
  11. What part of MIssissippi are you from?
  12. The company I work for makes spine surgery equipment. Depending on what kind of operation you are going to have you could be up and back at em in as little as a couple weeks. Spine surgery has really taken a corner to make the recovering time a lot less than what it was 15 years ago. Good luck and speedy recovery!
  13. My grandpa and I were fishing a small lake in Northern Mississippi called Chewalla years ago. One of us caught a bass and had it in the boat and were trying to get the hook out. The fish came off the hook and we lost control of it and it started flopping around the bottom of the boat like crazy. In the process of doing this it knocked my grandpa's favorite set up out of the boat and in to the water. He quickly tied up a bare worm hook with the heaviest weight we had and started fishing around for it. On the very first attempt he hooked one of the eyes and was able to bring it back up. We continued our fishing trip and laughed about how lucky he was this day. To this day this is my favorite fishing story I have.
  14. Reading on here and watching videos has got me wondering what kind of line is best for different situations. It seems like most of the time braid is used on topwaters and the other types are used for baits that are under the water.
  15. I have tried frogs in this area before with no luck at all. But I throw out a worm and they love it.
  16. Alright, this is my first time ever considering a swim bait, what kind of hook is the best to use for a weedless set up?
  17. A local pond I have been fishing here lately has a bunch of grass on one side of it the bass like to hang around. I can go out and catch 8-10 in an hour on a Senko pretty much every night. Just to mix things up I have been wondering if any kind of swim bait would work and what kind everyone recommends . I can see the bass bust out of the grass cover and attack bait fish and thought it would be fun to have the same kind of reaction using a swim bait.
  18. Check the Local Fishing Forum. There is a thread called "Memphis Pond Hoppers". This should help you out. I am from Southaven, MS. Just a little south of you. From reading in that thread, it sounds like there a few pretty good spots around Collierville that sound pretty promising.
  19. I posted a thread similar to yours, I got a lot of really good responses. This being one of them. If you want some helpful tips I would check out my post.
  20. Has anyone fished Chewalla State Park around Holly Springs, MS lately. A buddy and I are thinking about going there or going to Wall Doxey in the morning. Just checking to see if anyone had any insight on which lake to choose.
  21. Thanks for the replies everyone! I just found bassresource the other day and I can't stay off of it now. So much useful knowledge coming from some knowledgeable sources!
  22. Yeah, that's what I've been trying. Just can't seem to get any bites.
  23. The days are very hot here in North Mississippi this time of year. Everything I've been reading on this site is saying to go deeper the hotter it gets. I don't have a boat or anyway to get out to the deeper parts of the ponds I am fishing. Every time I go I am lucky to get 1 fish to even bite my lure. I have been using a drop shot worm and a top water right before dark. Any advice to help maybe get some more action. I'm pretty green to bass fishing so I'm not looking to catch a trophy quite yet, just trying to get the swing of this amazing hobby down.
