Worst Fishing Etiquette You've Encountered?
Hate to be a nag but Am I the only one disappointed to find all the baseball talk ? There's another thread called "everything else" I've enjoyed reading the experiences about fishing though.

Anyone remember this old Catfish bait?
But I bet those work well! Also, fall is a killer time for bass. I wouldn't totally change gears, anywhere that gets snow those bass will be feeding up this fall to make it through the winter. So Get you one of them pigs this fall too !

@IndianaFinesse right, but you don't think the circumstances are different in a pond ??

Channel catfish strategy
Do you think that an established population of channel catfish will hurt the bass population ?(in a 4 acre pond) they've coexisted in the pond for at least a couple decades. But does it hurt the chances of the bass getting to be bigger than average size ?

Seine help
My grandpa taught me and my brother how to sein in the Ohio creeks. He has passed now and we still do it today to feed our pond. We get huge chubs, yellow tails, craw dads and we throw back the suckers. And have managed to avoid the water moccasins except in our actual traps ! Ha-ha. As for seining a pond . You need two people for sure. But you can also use three. Like blue basser said keep it as close to the bottom as possible. You would need a really big sein to effectively sein a pond. You'd want to coral them into the corner and poke the edges with the ends of the poles. All the way until you meet and then pull up. The third person thing I mentioned we effectively used in creeks. We would find a narrow spot and set up the sein stretched out with just a little slack. (Two people holding it, one at each end) then the third person would walk the bank around the creek and come in at a shallow side of the pool, take a stick and beat the edges and thrash around all the way up to us. Effectively chasing the fish right into our net about 75 percent of the time .

Ever Fish A Lipless Crank Out Deep?
Everytime I truly want to go deep. (Assuming I'm using a hard bait) I reach for a lipless first. I like the rippin' and clackin rap

Channel catfish strategy
Tennessee is awesome , I go there every year for the "rod run" and have a blast. @GORDO I meant fishing for bass with a popper at night while I have my cat lines out. Would the commotion of me catching bass affect how many bites I get from the cats ?

Channel catfish strategy
Ha-ha thats dedication ! And yea I'm hoping I don't get rained on so I can go this weekend. Do you think throwing a top water for bass (at the opposite way my lines are set ) will affect my bite ratio with the cats ? Should I just chill and wait

Channel catfish strategy
I have those exact (eagle claw) hooks. I'm just getting into the catfish . I've been on the bass for almost a decade now. And everyone here in ohio seems to be crazy about the cats. Most people where I'm from (Michigan) like the cool water fish like pike , musky , walleye , and salmon. Ive just always liked using artificial, and the bass ' abitiliy to live in even a tiny pond makes them easier to pursue . I don't always have a complete day to take my Jon boat out. Sometimes just a couple hours to run down the road and hit up a pond. Can't beat it . In my opinion

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna opt for the braid as well. I also like using braid almost all the time. I was planning on using a bobber. As it would give something for the girls to watch. @GORDO but now that you mention it. Every cat I've ever caught I didn't use a bobber. I will also opt to use the bluegill. What kind of hook should I use for the crawlers ? I'm assuming a treble with a whole gob of em on it..

Proven fish catchers, an extensive list
@bigbill I wish I could go to a spot thats never seen a fisherman ! Ha-ha. Man I've caught a bass on a crappie nibble. And I'm sure you can catch bass on the banjo minnow and the flying lure and many others . But we both know they don't belong on this list !

Channel catfish strategy
Ok. I'm looking for advice from an experienced cat angler. I usually bass fish. But this weekend me and my brother (and our girlfriends ) are going to go catfishing in a 4 acre pond. There are catfish in the pond 100% positive. I'm wondering what you would use and where you would target. To describe the pond it has a huge oval at the left side that has had the trees cleared out and this is supposedly the deepest spot . To the right there is a small bay and to the right of that kind of tapers off into a narrow corner. But the corner is heavily covered in vegetation. (noticed while I was bass fishing it a week ago. ) I've caught catfish on chicken livers and bluegill. And a mepps #5 spinner (I seen it soaking up the sun last fall) . I think it's just channel catfish in there. But the owner says there are cats in there that are well over 3ft so I'm assuming they are flatheads. I want to know where you would target, what you would use for bait. The type of pole (and line) youd suggest , and how you would rig your bait. Thanks in advance.

Banjo minnow ! Best lure of all time . Ha-ha. Kidding. I think the culprit original worm deserves a mention ? Am I wrong. I don't think so..

LiveTarget sunfish?? Is it worth it?
My same exact experience. Even with the "wait for the weight " and it has trokar hooks I believe. It's fun to fish because it's so easy to walk. And I had a big fish take it once right at the boat. Pulled it completely under. Set the hook . On for about 5 seconds and off. Not worth it in my opinion either. If I switch to a popper I nab more than half of the fish that would have just swiped at the LT blugeill

Fishing neighborhood lake with no structure
Try a shad rap. Long casts parallel to shore. So many fish I've caught on the shad rap. And multiple 4lbers. Also double tail hula grubs. Fished weightless or small weight t-rigged . Mepps spinner. Bomber model A (chartreuse blush is my favorite ) , I've had success with the rage craw t rigged. Sometimes all I had was my rod and the pack of rage craws and had 5+ fish nights from the bank. I think your issue is location more than presentation . But it could be both. the only way to get better and find the fish is to spend more time on the water.

VMC Sure Set Hooks - Thoughts?
I've had success with them ! I've pulled in a Couple where the long shank was the only thing in em. Makes me feel like I wouldn't have got em if I didn't have it on there. (I'll never know) I like the vmc hooks too. Always have treated me well. I like the sure set. Although I don't think they make a big noticeable difference. And could get hung up more. Like I said. I've brought em in when only the long shank was in her lip.
