ICAST 17 Counterfeits Caught !
No, the difference is that they were exact copies, not something like they took an appendage and went with it. Damned if I can find the article... EDIT: Found it! http://fishingtackleretailer.com/weird-wonderful-icast-far

fluorocarbon leader
I've been very happy with using P-line CXX as my leader and Sufix 832 as the main. Using a uni-knot to connect them has worked perfectly. That P-line is tough as nails. I yanked a T-rigged senko out of a tree with a fully engaged drag and didn't break either the main or the P-line leader. The main is 10lb and the leader is 8lb! I was impressed.

ICAST 17 Counterfeits Caught !
I read a story on this a few weeks back - I think the Chinese defense was that they were displaying their ability to produce the baits and their manufacture process rather than attempting to sell the clearly counterfeit lures/baits. Talk about gumption! Glad to see they were met with a swift boot to the behind!

What affect will the weather have?
I would say no worse than average, maybe a little heavy. As for the dock bit, I'm on the bank as well, so I won't be on the water.

Dobyn's Sierra SA 692 SF Rod Overview
That's good advice - the *** I have I actually ordered from TW. They packaged the thing for transit superbly and have 0 qualms about ordering from them again. Little story about that *** - I paid for overnight shipping but placed my order after... 11am EST I think? It was after the cutoff for overnights to get there overnight. Not realizing this, I questioned their support why my overnight item wasn't coming overnight because I was watching the tracking number and UPS said they got an update that it would be coming a day later. They explained about the cutoff time and offered to refund me the shipping fee. Feeling bad for not doing my due diligence when it comes to reading the terms and stuff, I apologized and told them I didn't want the fee refunded and sorry for bothering them. Despite that, my rod still arrived overnight. lol They're great people over there. My impatience is what sent me to Cabelas - I get paid on Fridays and it's too late for overnight shipping - so if I order it online and have it shipped, it won't get here until Monday whereas I could spend what I'd pay for overnight shipping and just drive up to Cabela's (now that I know there is one in Northern Columbus) and get it that-day and hit up some other places since I'm in the area.

What is the most versatile line for my lures?
I'm a big fan of the combo I'm currently running - Suffix 832 in 10lb with an 8lb P-line CXX leader. I've ripped lures out of trees with this setup.

Recommend spinning reel to replace Okuma Inspira
If you hadn't seen, in my Dobyn's Rod thread, I recently took my original fishing gear out and used it and realized I liked the feel of the all-metal Penn Battle II. The smoothness, the size of the handle knob and the sturdiness of the all-metal construction. The Okuma I have is a great reel, but comparatively the only benefit it has over the Penn is it's extremely light-weight. My Battle II 4000 is nearly 13oz while the Okuma Inspira ISX-30b is 7.4. A significant weight-savings. What I ask of you fine folks is a suggestion for a similar all-metal body reel or something that feels as rock-solid. Amazon has a 2500 size Battle II for $64 (which is a darn good price when my 4000 cost me close to $100) - https://www.amazon.com/Penn-Battle-2500-Spinning-Fishing/dp/B00LDYJ5X0/ref=pd_sim_200_2?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=DSAMQMJXR3D5SHSTQ8AR&th=1 I would like to keep things around $100 and have no real preference on brand - but something that can bridge the solid feel/light weight gap is what I'm looking for. Thank you for your help!

What's your style?
As a shore pounder, I tend to saturate the area with casts, hoping that at least one will strike paydirt. If there is a lot of shore access and not many other people around, I will move around a bit and spend less time at each location. If there aren't many available shore spots, then I'll be spending a lot of time throwing different lures in the same spots hoping something hits.

Dobyn's Sierra SA 692 SF Rod Overview
So, I went fishing on Sunday and decided to take both of my rods/reels. I haven't used my *** and Penn Battle II reel since I bought my Dobyn's rod and Okuma Inspira reel. So, I felt a little bad they'd been under-utilized (mostly since they're practically the same weight ratings - Blackout is 1/4-1/2 and the Dobyn's is 1/8-1/2). I think I may be making some changes. I found that I prefer the feel of the Penn Battle II reel over the Okuma. The Okuma is vastly lighter, but the Penn feels so much better. It feels more solid. The Okuma is put together well and feels good, but the Penn just feels better in my hand, it doesn't feel like a toy. Granted, that's because the Okuma is carbon fiber and such. I think it's also because the Okuma is a 2500 size and the Penn is a 4000. The Penn is also higher geared, so I don't feel like I'm working as hard reeling in lures - especially things like buzzbaits, they're easier to keep on top of the water with the Penn. The Penn also has a much larger reel knob than the Okuma which is nice for my large paws. Finally, I think the Penn feels better on the reel than the Okuma. Not sure if that's because of the bearings/construction or because of the gearing ratio requiring less effort. I was quite surprised to see my preference when I used my original gear - I think my only regret is that I think the 4000 size was a mistake. Something along the 2000 would have been a better-buy. I also noticed a huge difference in the rods. The Blackout is significantly stiffer than the Dobyn's. When you cast the Dobyn's you can really feel it load up and fling those lures. Not so much with the Blackout. The Dobyn's is also much more comfortable in the hand than the Blackout. The grip is also better by far. Comparing the two casting abilities, it feels like the Blackout is a baseball bat to the Dobyn's switch. Granted, these two rods are in completely different price brackets (I've seen TW put the Blackout on sale for around $50 and I bought it for $80) but I didn't think there would be that stark a difference between the two. I think I'm going to pair the Okuma reel with the Blackout and throw the Penn on the Dobyn's and see how that works out. If I like it, I might even buy another Battle II in a smaller size to really hit up on that weight savings. Anyway, I thought some might find this info useful and I didn't think it warranted it's own thread so I figured here would be as good a place as any to post it.

What affect will the weather have?
I'm wanting to head back to Tycoon Lake this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday. Here's the weather on Friday: Thunderstorms Early --65° 50% NW 5 mph 96% UV INDEX SUNRISE SUNSET MOONRISE MOONSET 0 of 10 6:15 am 8:54 pm -- 11:31 am Scattered thunderstorms during the evening, then partly cloudy overnight. Low near 65F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 50%. Here's Saturday's: Partly Cloudy 84°62° 20% NNW 5 mph 70% UV INDEX SUNRISE SUNSET MOONRISE MOONSET 8 of 10 6:16 am 8:53 pm 12:17 am 12:34 pm Intervals of clouds and sunshine in the morning with more clouds for later in the day. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 84F. Winds light and variable. Here's Sunday's: Sunny 86°64° 10% NNW 4 mph 63% UV INDEX SUNRISE SUNSET MOONRISE MOONSET 10 of 10 6:17 am 8:53 pm 12:50 am 1:39 pm Sunny. High 86F. Winds light and variable. Between Saturday and Sunday, which looks like the better day to go and fish? I'm thinking Saturday since the storm the previous day will have stirred up stuff, so hopefully fish will be feeding and it's got some cloud cover (I believe I've read bass move around more when there's cloud cover than not?) so they'll be more active. Is my reasoning tracking straight? Appreciate the help folks.

Doing some grilling tomorrow
Started off cooking them on indirect heat for about 15min/side with some hickory chips soaked in water and got this. Then we re-loaded the chimney about half way and stoked the coals, added some more hickory chips and got it nice and hot to sear for a couple minutes on each side. Bottom steak is dad's, top is mom's. Reason the bottom has all the juice is I only brought out one plate at first and both were sitting on it. This is a slice of dad's. Bit of a better cross-section of dad's. And here's my steak when it was finished! And the cross-section. So - final verdict is this was the singularly most amazing and delicious steak I've EVER had! OMG. It was SO TENDER and JUICY!!! It's better than any I've had at a steakhouse. Absolutely incredible!!! Only comment is it was a bit salty - so a little less hickory chips and do a better job of washing the meat prior to drying. Other than that, this is the happiest my stomach has ever been. As for why dry brine - http://jesspryles.com/how-to-make-your-steak-even-tastier-use-the-dry-brining-method/
