I'm mostly wondering what I could have done differently or something obvious that I didn't try. Off-hand I'd say I didn't try any of our buzzbaits. I was so focused on the walkers I didn't even think about the buzzbait. I also didn't try any poppers or shallow cranks. The problem I run into when I start going down that road is suddenly I'm saying, "Throw everything all the time" and that's a bit... inspecific.

So yesterday I went back to Wolf Run in an attempt to get some early morning topwater action. I got there around 6:45 and was in position on the dam about 7:00a. Granted, this was about an hour later than I'd wanted, but events conspired against me. As you can see, it's still prior to sunrise. Nice bit of fog on the water, little to no wind and very calm water. In front, to my left and right I see surface strikes every couple minutes. A couple of times I even see fish jumping completely out of the water. So I started with my Super Spook Jr. in Bone. Tried numerous twitch-twich-pause combos, walking the dog, etc. Didn't get anything on that, so I switched over to the KVD Sexy Dawg in Sexy Shad. Did the same as before, twitch-twitch pause variations, walked the dog, etc. No bites either. By now it's after sun-up and the strikes are starting to slow down. What can I do that I didn't do to increase my chance of getting a bite? I'm using 10lb 832 in ghost as mainline and a couple feet of Sufix flourcarbon leader in 10lb.

One reason why I just post where I am anyway - saves time and I'm here to share. Being selfish with spots is unsportsmanlike. Though filing an FOIA request is going way too far.

An Ontario fishing pro says a trophy brook trout fishing lake he documented in an Ontario Park may now be exposed due to a Freedom of Information request. Mike Borger and his son fished a small lake deep in the heart of Algonquin Park this spring, and he made a 40 minute video of their incredible trout fishing that was posted on Youtube. Borger, who usually promotes fishing lodges and outpost camps on his website, did not name the lake. But someone wanted to know where it was so badly they made a Freedom Of Information request to find out where he was fishing "I'm going to give him credit, because it was an incredibly smart — underhanded and a little bit devious — but also very smart way to get this information. If somebody has a copy of my interior camping permit, which shows which lakes I camped on each night, they can clearly and easily figure out which lake I caught these trophy fish in," Borger told CBC. Borger initially received a five-page letter from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, detailing the situation and the request, he said. After voicing his concerns, the ministry told him they would not confirm or deny the existence of his record to the person pursuing it, he said. But there is a process if the requester wants to appeal the decision, Borger said. Borger first fished the lake around 15 years ago, he said, and did quite well. "I kind of just have kept it in my back pocket. I've been busy these last few years. I haven't had time for a trip of that substance, because frankly, it takes days to get in there and days to get out." He went back with his young son to see if it was still good, he said, and discovered it was. The video of the trip has garnered more response than anything else Borger has published, he said. So far 127 people have messaged him privately asking for the location of the lake, and he has politely declined all requests, he added. "I haven't told anybody about this lake. I wouldn't even tell my best friend about this lake," Borger said. "It just goes to show you how popular brook trout fishing in Algonquin Park is and the lengths some people will apparently go to find your fishing spot," he added.

When they talk about the number of bearings in a reel, I always thought the entire contraption was one bearing. I could never figure out how they got 6 of these things in my Penn Battle II and all other reels. When I was looking at pictures of another kind of bearing, it suddenly dawned on me - when it says it has 6 ball bearings, that means it has 6 ball bearings in the entire bushing but just one bushing total, doesn't it? I always thought that what I have pictured above was TWO BALL BEARINGS rather than the number of balls inside being what was counted. lmfao Wow. Yeah, it's one of those days.

You're going to be severely disappointed on space if that's the case. lol Though we do have a Weber Kettle grill... (BTW, saw yesterday was the CG's 227th Birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Coasties!) Well, we have plenty of lakes down here - you can check my report threads for all the various places I've been in Ohio over the last year. Heading back to Lake Snowden today with my brother once he gets off work. As for the recliner, I'm sorry - that one is mine. Maybe if I'm lucky, by that time, I'll have a kayak I can bring. Might even get the brother to come. As for dinks, that's all I've ever known!

I assume they're almost always held in the beginning of the year like this year's was? Any idea on location for the next one or is that decided at a later date?

Nope, no boat. Currently shorebound and for the forseeable future.

So, in the fall, my brother and I will both be attending school. He with the GI Bill and I with Vocational Rehab. This means a monthly stipend from the Gov't and we're looking at getting a place together. Ohio in this area doesn't have a whole lot of options while across the river in West Virginia, specifically Parkersburg, there are a LOT more options housing-wise. So, I'm wondering what kind of fishing we can expect in West Virginia? I've only been to the bits by Ohio and never for fishing. Anywhere we should check out? Appreciate the input!

Welcome to the club, my friend! I usually go fishing at least once a week and so far this year have caught... 2 fish. One in December and one in April. And I've been to dozens of lakes/ponds. So, yeah, it sucks. I've pushed through so far with the hopes of striking it big someday. I think my issue is I just can't find the dang things - and somedays they're just not going to bite. It's hard not to get discouraged. Do a lot of searching here and you'll find tons of answers to just about any question you can think of. If you can't find it, pop up a thread and let us have it and we'll help the best we can.

To go with the above post, I use 10lb Sufix 832 braid and an 8lb P-Line CXX copolymer leader on my spinning setup - it's a 4000 size Penn Battle II and a 2500 size Okuma Inspira. This way I get the benefits of having a small diameter, but strong main-line for improved casting distance and a tough, abrasion and shock resistant leader doing the dirty work down with the lure.

This is one article to which I'm referring - https://www.bassmaster.com/blog/baitcasting-made-easy This guy says use 17lb mono while learning - also that heavier line leads to less overrun when casting. I watch JonB on YouTube quite often and it always surprises me to hear he uses 30lb clear up to 65lb with his baitcasting gear.

So, from a spinning perspective, it's always been a trade-off between line diameter and casting distance. The thinner the line, the farther you can cast. To that end, I've settled on 10lb Sufix 832 with a 3-4ft Pline CXX 8lb leader. The reading I've done for baitcasters says they're designed to use much heavier line, 20lb+ and such. How much of a trade-off in casting distance are you making by using that much heavier line?

I only use about a 3-4ft leader, so 33yds of the stuff will last a looooong time. Let alone the 150yds of P-line I have. lol

Bought some 10lb 832 in ghost from TW the other day and got a freebie 33yd spool of their 100% Flourocarbon in 10lb as well. Is it worthwhile? I'm currently using some P-line CXX 8lb in a green as my leader.

Holy Jesus, the 130 and 190 are HUGE and HEAVY.
