  1. I'm thinking I'll hit up Tycoon lake since it's west of me and most of their rain should be on Friday rather than Saturday. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/39.4297794,-81.4333111/Tycoon+Lake+-+South+Dam,+Bidwell,+OH+45614/@38.9228168,-82.3537136,679m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m18!1m7!3m6!1s0x88462f990710feb7:0x473983a84f904a45!2sTycoon+Lake+-+South+Dam,+Bidwell,+OH+45614!3b1!8m2!3d38.9217441!4d-82.3532088!4m9!1m1!4e1!1m5!1m1!1s0x88462f990710feb7:0x473983a84f904a45!2m2!1d-82.3532088!2d38.9217441!3e0
  2. Only chance I'm going to have to do some fishing this weekend is on Saturday and the weather isn't looking so hot anywhere around me. Either light rain or up to half an inch of it. High/Low in the mid 50s after a week in the 30s and below. If I'm wanting to bass fish, do you think it's worth going out?
  3. I'm currently using 10lb Invisx on my setup. Worked pretty dang well so far. Haven't caught anything yet, but it's that time of year.
  4. Good news is our school recently hired armed security. Granted, there's only one on campus at a time and they don't work Fridays, but it's better than nothing.

For me, the NRA is a lot like the Republican party currently. They do a lot of things that bother me and I don't really like, but in the end, they're the closest thing I have to actually sharing my opinions. While I agree in what they stand for as an organization, I sometimes don't agree with their actions. I haven't been a member for a couple of years.
  6. I've considered it, but I go way too many places where it's prohibited - I work for a community college library and I attend a private college full-time, so almost 100% of my day is in places where I'm not allowed to carry. The thought of getting my license so I can shoulder-holster carry while out fishing has occurred to me, but I haven't acted on it yet.
  7. I think I'm going to sell my custom-built AR in 6.8mm. There's nothing wrong with the caliber or getting ammo or anything, but I just don't shoot like I thought I was going to - fishing has kinda taken over that spot and the lack of a good range close to where I live is another. I've called around to places and they aren't interested in non-5.56 or 7.62 ARs, especially custom builds like mine. So my question for you folks is as the title states - where do you think is a good place to put it up for sale? GunBroker, armslist, somewhere else? The gun also makes a dandy hunting rifle once you put an optic on it. 6.8 is a lot like the .270 Winchester - same diameter bullet but lighter bullets, typically. How should I market it? As a hunting rifle? Target rifle (that's what I was going to use it as)? Something else? I also know I'm not going to get anywhere near what I paid for it, so I'm figuring about half is what I might get at best, despite having barely used it. Appreciate your input folks!
  8. Interesting. My reading lead me to believe that the Feel Free had the more comfortable seating. The vast majority of my fishing will be done on lakes/reservoirs. Occasionally a river if I feel up to it. Having never stood on a Kayak or any sort of boating device, I don't know if it's something that'll be important to me or not. Instinct says I'll spend most of my time seated. Ability to add a fish-finder later on is a definite plus (Hence the Lure, ATAK, Radar, ect). Weight isn't too big of a deal I don't think, but lighter is nicer. Local shop has a layaway program - think I'll utilize it so come spring I've paid for one and can use it.
  9. The other kayak I've been looking at is the ATAK 120. Allegedly from my reading the ATAK is faster but the Lure is more stable. Anyone have input on the ATAK seating comfort?
  10. Pedal systems costing $1000 just blow my mind. I cannot fathom how in the world they can cost THAT MUCH. I'd love to get one with a pedal system but the price is just obscene.
  11. Interested in hearing from anyone on here if they have one what they like and dislike about it. Thinking of purchasing one come spring.
  12. As you all know, I received my new rod from Dobyns (a DC 734C F/H) and wanted to take it for a test-drive today. I decided to spool it up with some Seaguar InvisX 10# because I was going to use the Megabass Vision 110 in Elegy Bone due to the cooler water temps. I also took my brother's inflatable pontoon boat so I could hopefully get out and where the fish were if I couldn't get them from the shore. I started over near the dam as that was the easiest access for the pontoon boat. After about 15min I got it inflated and assembled and got out on the water. One problem - it was very windy and we don't have an anchor for it. So after about 10min of being blown around into the dam, I decided I'd had enough of the pontoon boat and put it back in the Jeep. After that, you can see I went over to the Rest Area and parked and walked down the hill to fish from that shore along Rt. 22. Turns out that hill is a lot steeper than it looks and quite wet from the recent rain. lol So I worked my way along the shore, first trying a black/blue 3/8oz jig with a YUM grey/orange craw trailer with no luck and then tried the 6th Sense 80X in Baby Bluegill. For the most part, it was too windy to really get much of a cast for distance. After a couple hours of nothing, I just sat back in my chair and figured I'd try and wait out the wind. In the calmer parts, I could see little fish hitting the surface consistently and in the same spots. To my right waaaaay off, I saw massive splashes. Unfortunately, I had no way to get to them. After the wind died down a bit, I waited to see if any fish would strike the surface closer to shore so I'd have a chance. About 20min later, an absolutely MASSIVE disturbance occurred about 20ft off shore right in front of me. I immediately got up and went to the shore and cast the 6th Sense lure out. On the third cast, I hooked into "The one that got away". I have no clue how big it was, but it hit the lure about 50ft out. The line went tight, I set the hook and the rod bent. I put the rod tip high and started reeling in, but it wasn't getting any closer. All of a sudden, it started pulling out my drag in long pulls. I was flabbergasted - I'd tightened down the drag because I'd snagged the lure and had to man-handle it free. With the 10# InvisX, I had to have had at least 7lbs of drag and it was pulling it out like it was nothing. I managed to fight it back to shore about 30ft out when I saw a boil and... the lure came flying out of the water. I was furious. I never did see that fish to find out what it was. But man. I was prepared for it - I had the scale with me today AND I bought a Golden Rule at WalMart. Long story short, that was the sole bite I got today. Got out there around 1pm and headed home at 6:30pm. I didn't get to use the Megabass Vision 110 much because it's GOD d**n TREBLE HOOKS INSIST ON PENETRATING EVERY GOD d**n THING. I managed to get it hooked into my backpack and couldn't find the pliers to pull it out. Now it's treble hooked into the backpack and my foldable chair. I'm fed up with the d**n thing. The Dobyns rod on the other hand was absolutely incredible. I was easily able to feel out the structure on the bottom with the jig - lots of tree branches and rocks. When the wind died down and I tried the Whopper Plopper, that thing bombed a mile. I was impressed. Weight was perfect and balance was right on - I didn't feel any fatigue while fishing at all. So, thanks for checking in and here's to next time! Maybe I'll catch something.
  13. Finally made up my mind. Went with the DC 734C F/H. Used the money I'd have spent extra on the rod to get a Vision 110 in Elegy Bone, 10lb InvisX and a 6th Sense 80X squarebill.
  14. Just got word back and it appears my upgrade prices for the 744 in either the ChampionHP or Champion Extreme are: $100 for the Champ $190 for the Extreme For that price, I'm not sure I can pass up the opportunity to go into the Extreme line. Are we thinking the 744 would be my best bet?
  15. Little update for you folks... The Post Office mis-read the label and mailed it back to me instead of to Dobyns, so imagine my surprise when I get the delivery notification that it's sitting at my local Post Office. lol Called and guy re-routed it for me and it arrived today. Since the first of the month is coming up, I may have a little extra $$$ to spend and depending on what credit I'm quoted for the rod I shipped them (brand new, un-used), I might splurge and pick up a Champion Extreme rod. If not, I'll probably go with the ChampionXP. I'm leaning towards the 744 F/H in either rod.
  16. Astounding! I can't imagine catching that many fish!
  17. Unfortunately the weather looks pretty bad for the forseeable future. Looking at a couple inches of rain on Wednesday and Thursday and temps in the low 60s to mid 50s. Sunday might be fishable with AM showers but sun in the afternoon.
  18. Maybe Ill give her a go when I get my new rod next weekend.
  19. Went fishing yesterday and hit up my PB spot as well as a couple other places I hadn't been to before at Salt Fork Lake. Used the Deeper Pro+ to check out the contours of the PB spot. Nothing too surprising aside from a drop off of about 5ft about 10ft out. Didn't catch anything. Deeper was reading the water temps at 50. From reading it seems that 50 is great when you're warming up to it as it triggers pre-spawn action in bass but not so great when you're cooling down to it. Once I get my new rod I'll take it out for a spin but I don't think I'll be catching any more fish until steelhead or it warms up in the spring.
  20. Yeah, but to leave by 3 you have to be up at 1:30...
  21. Oh wow, I hadn't even thought of ice. Good points. Crud.
  22. They look great! Just wish that part of Michigan wasn't a... (checks Google Maps) 9 hour drive. lol Wonder if it'd make more sense to fly... EDIT : Just did a faux-trip in March (Spring Break) to see prices - we could get there on the 11th and leave the 14th for just under $700/ea. And the closest I could get is Pellston, so that means we'd need a rental car too. I think driving, while sucking, would be the better plan.
  23. As you all know, my brother and I do not have a boat yet we still fish. Coworker of mine came back from a trip to the upper part of Michigan (not the UP) and said he had an incredible time fishing for smallmouth in some crystal clear water. If my brother and I were looking to say... go up to Michigan for a weekend to do some fishing for smallies, where and when would you suggest next year? I know season is ending and steelhead are now becoming the fish to get. Also - who would you recommend take us since we don't have a boat? Thanks!
  24. I currently have the 8.5:1 in LHR and use mine for T-rigged worms and bullet weights. I've also used it with topwaters.
  25. Alrighty. Rod is off and should get there on Monday. $13 for a 10ft section of 2" PVC SC40 and two endcaps and then $18 to insure it and ship it via USPS. Interestingly the address doesn't show up in the postal database yet so they had to override to get it there. Can't wait for the new one!
