  1. Here's the Navionics data - https://webapp.navionics.com/#boating@15&key={gxtFxnaoN Anything there look good for a bank beater?
  2. I think I'm going to drive out to Clendening Lake tomorrow and try some fishing along the dam. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Clendening+Dam+Park,+Milarcik+Rd,+Tippecanoe,+OH+44699/@40.2694481,-81.2777883,735m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m8!1m2!2m1!1sClendening+Lake!3m4!1s0x883658e177352d6f:0x9fe0b699d53ff3bf!8m2!3d40.2680943!4d-81.2782073 My first thought was to drop shot. Go pick up a 1/4oz bag of weights and some drop shot hooks and maybe a bag or two of plastics. Think about 1ft from weight to hook? Maybe more? Weather doesn't look so great - "Partly cloudy skies during the morning hours will give way to occasional showers in the afternoon. High 41F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.". Was thinking of getting there around 8am and give me about 4hrs or so to work the dam before the rain might move in. Any other suggestions on presentations to try?
  3. I was afraid it'd be something like that. Rats.
  4. So here's what I'm envisioning. Something I can toss out or cast out that has a float on the line so I can suspend it at certain depths to look around and see what's there - bonus if it has the ability to rotate the camera lens. The idea is I'm on shore and toss/cast this out so I can spend more time fishing where there actually are fish instead of spending 4 hours doing nothing. lol Appreciate the help! Something like this? https://www.cabelas.com/product/AQUA-VU-AV-C-COLOR-CAMERA/1663107.uts?slotId=1 Preferably in that price range or cheaper?

  6. Here's the link to the Deeper data for anyone interested. https://maps.deepersonar.com/#share-6c5bdaa6-a142-42b3-908c-57eeb6a779bb
  7. Was a nice day to go fishing - mid to upper 40s with a constant rain and water in the low to mid 40s. lol So I threw on my waders and boots and picked up a jacket at Hibbet Sports (found out it's not waterproof...). Started out at the south dam and used the Deeper to see if I could spot any fishies. It can auto-call out fish if you tell it to, and I told it to, so it was seeing fish - but I think they were false positives as it was seeing them less than 8ft away from me in 3ft of water that I couldn't see with my eyes. And the lake is surprisingly clear - about 3-5ft visibility. Then went to the north part of the lake and used the Deeper and tossed it around some lily pads or lotuses. Pretty shallow up there and didn't see anything. So I went to the fishing pier and got some bathymetric data for future planning - didn't see anything around it either. As I was getting ready to leave, a Wildlife officer stopped by to see if I had any luck - told him no and showed him where I fished and my PB I caught up at Salt Fork. He suggested farther back in the corner of the dam where these tree stumps are just below the surface for crappie and once I get a yak to fish the other side as the lake gets pretty pressured with anglers. Most stick to the east side so I'm to try the North and West sides if possible. Disappointed but I actually like being out in this kind of weather - just wish the jacket was waterproof!
  8. Haven't been fishing for them in almost a year and with my finals over for the semester on Thursday, Saturday sounds like as good a day as any to head north. Currently looking at the Vermilion river at Jerusalem road. It's about a 3hr drive. Weather looks to be high in the low 40s and the river is currently around 125cfs. Optimum is between 100 and 250. Figure if I leave around 8am or so, get me there a little after 11, if there's ice, it should be melted off by the sun by then. Pick up some salmon hooks and spawn sacs somewhere up north and I should be good to go! Fingers crossed - I've never caught a steelhead before.
  9. So it sounds like unless I can commit to the whole shebang, I should probably save my money then. Makes sense - especially since this technique is so specialized. I just wish I didn't have to drive 3 hours to try and catch steelhead during the winter. lol
  10. You know, I did notice that when I was fishing. There'd be quite a large bow in the line and it felt pretty heavy on the end of the rod. I'll look into some mono.
  11. Anyway - aside from the assortment of hair jigs and the bobbers, anything else you fine folk think I should pick up as well?
  12. I fish reservoirs, so a slip bobber makes most sense to me - the depth varies a lot at the places I fish (though if there are actually fish there or not is anyone's guess... lol). Since fish are deeper during this part of the year, I could need anything between 10-30ft of leader. I'm also trying to make this work with the equipment I have - I have a 7'3" MH baitcaster (1/4-1oz) and could repurpose my Deeper rod (a 7ft Pflueger combo rod that came with the reel) for this. I currently have 10lb InvisX on the baitcaster and 40lb catfishing line on the deeper rod.
  13. I got that, but I didn't think they were as big a deal as he made them out to be. Then again, I've never really tried it, so my experience is nil. Do they make like a... solid that you could put on the hook then? Something solid that would slowly dissolve and not gum up the hair?
  14. So I've selected 3 of the SPRO 2-packs, two of the Thill slip floats in 7/8" and some bobber stops - anything else I might consider? What about scents? I've read they can help.
  15. Is there much difference between using the 1/16 and 1/8? I'd go with 1/8 just because it'll cast better with the bobber.
  16. Yeah, I don't get why the author of that article is so down on slip bobbers. Seems like a natural modification to the original formula.
  17. I'm going to head over to TW and pick up some actual float n fly jigs in various colors as well as some different bobbers - do you folks think the wacky rigged senko is a viable presentation with a bobber? Maybe get some 4" sticks instead?
  18. Yup! That's the article I read.
  19. I did read a rather lengthy article on here about the technique, which is what got me interested (after hearing about it on another fishing forum).
  20. With the weather getting cold as well as water temps, I'm thinking of trying the float 'n fly technique. Anyone have experience with it?
  21. Way more expensive, but the Deeper Pro+ I have will give water temps as well. If you're looking for a castable fish-finder, that's an option.
  22. So I decided to go after all. First, did a couple mile hike out to a local land bridge so I could collect some samples for my Geology capstone project at school. Bought some supplies at WalMart but they didn't have any hair jigs (the plan was to try the float 'n fly technique to see if I could catch anything). So I bought a couple mini-jigs in 3/16th oz, some bobber stops and some beads. Already had two bobbers, so I didn't get any (though I found out that mine were weighted... ). Went to Wolf Run State Park and fished the dam area. I though, "Well, no hair jigs, but let's try a float 'n jig instead!" So I tied on one of those 3/16th oz jigs and used the bobber with it. Figured I'd improvise with what I had and see if it worked. (Sorry for bad focus, didn't see that when I took it) Didn't have any luck with it. Wasn't too bummed - but that's when I realized I had a weighted bobber. Kinda makes it hard to know if you've set your stop too deep when the bobber won't fall over. lol So next I tried a wacky-rigged (sans o-rings, couldn't find my wacky rig tool) a green pumpkin with flake senko with the bobber. My thinking was it was pretty windy so with the bobber... bobbing... it would make the senko flutter and look enticing to the fish. I used this the rest of the evening but couldn't get anything to bite. I used the Deeper Pro+ that I have to see if I could find anything along the dam but was unsuccessful. Here's the Deeper data - https://maps.deepersonar.com/#share-34978a8d-2ba6-4b09-8f93-0e158769c05d Anyone see anything on the deeper data that looks like fish or anything? I don't trust the data on the northern shore as there is no way it's over 80ft there. The problem is that it was windy so the deeper was getting submerged and when that happens, it gives off strange readings. The rest along the dam I didn't get anything. I did, however, spot some possible plumose structures in one of the rocks used in the dam wall - So - it was an absolutely gorgeous day today, but the fish just weren't biting today and I didn't bring a lot of tackle. Was glad I went.
  23. I think I'm going to give a Float n Fly presentation a shot. See if that works for me.
  24. That's why God had man invent waders and polar-tec! The conditions don't bother me, I just don't want to head out if conditions figure the fish shut down.
