  1. DSG is currently running a sale on the Abu Garcia Veritas rod line. I am looking for a spinnerbait and moving bait rod. I know there are many types of spinnerbait fishing. Here is what I am thinking i will be doing with it: casting along weed lines casting near docks knocking the bait over wood Most of the spinnerbaits i use are 1/4 - 1/2 oz and double willow or with one willow and one colorado/indiana blade. Some people have told me that the Veritas are rated MH but are really H. What is a good model for this application? http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=67727286
  2. would you recommend the rod?
  3. get a zillion on sale
  4. Has anyone used these rods? I am looking at the 6'6" M Spinning rod. They are currently on sale for $50. My other main spinning setup is a Cabela's Tournament ZX 1500 reel and Cabala's Tournament ZX 7' M Fast rod. I spooled it with 20lb test braid and plan to do that with my next spinning combo too. I fish a drop shot a lot. I would want one of these rods to be strictly dropshot. Which one would do better for that, and what techniques are they both good for. I am open to putting the reel on the other rod too.
  5. Here is what I am now looking at buying from Dick's Sporting Goods 6'6" M Quantum Escalade Spinning rod (1/8-1/4) $49.99 Okuma Stratus V 25 Spinning (180/6) $39.99 TUF-Line 4orce Braid 100yds:20lb test (6lb mono equiv) $10.99 The order is over $100 and I have a 20 off 100 coupon. I also have a $25 gift card. So, for a little over $50, I can acquire a combo with a value of a little over $150. Has anyone used these rods before?
  6. I am in the process of ordering a new rod reel and line. My rod is a 7'0 MH Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 without micro guides. My line of choice is 20 pound TUF Line Force. I am undecided on the reel. I can get a Daiwa Tatula Type R from Amazon for $75 and I may be able to get a Shimano Curado 200i from Bass Pro Shops for $87. Which reel is better? I have several Daiwas and think they are great, but have heard lots of great things about the Curados too. Thanks!
  7. best of luck to you and your son!
  8. what about 12 pound cxx
  9. would the small diameter of braid be better?
  10. buy the gear that is nice enough to make a difference in your fishing, but not nice enough to make you bankrupt. You can get away with a spinning rod, a medium, medium heavy, and heavy casting combos just fine
  11. both are good rods. if you can inspect them in store, go with a ghost if the guides are aligned
  12. This one was caught on a keitech, but the 8+ pounder i lost was on a neko rig skipped under a dock
  13. 14. Ponds are a great place to learn how to fish. They are usually easily accessible, small, and have abundant fish. The basic food chain of a pond will be more complex in a lake. There may be more types of baitfish, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, and largemouth. Black bass might not be the apex predator. Pike, Musky, Stripers, and other large game fish rule the waters of a lake. At different points throughout the year, fish will be located in different areas. This aspect of lakes makes them hard to fish on tough days. The fish can spread out more, and will be less likely to bite. It can also be much better on good days. When you put together a pattern of getting bit in a certain area many times, you have the opportunity to catch lots of fish. Lakes also produce huge fish. The complex food chain allows them to feed more and get bigger. Fishing a lake can be both similar and different than fishing ponds. Many lures that work in ponds will also work in lakes. It is easy to bank fish ponds, because you can fish most of the pond from shore. In a lake, you are limited to the accessible part of the bank. This makes it hard to catch offshore fish. Fish will still relate to cover and structure like they do in ponds. Good Luck, Crusty
  15. I agree 100% those 1 and 2 pound fish will never become 5 pounders if they die of mishandling...

  17. I am getting a 7' MH Vendetta casting rod. I want to use it for moving baits. I am trying to decide what line to use it with. What if I used 20 lb TUF LINE Force? I would use a 15 pound fluorocarbon leader.
  18. I plan on getting a 7'0 MH rod. What would be some techniques to use with it. I will pair the rod with a 7.2:1 reel
  19. I agree, it is a pretty NASTI name...
  20. i will be pairing it with a Shimano Curado or a Daiwa Tatula Type R.
  21. Which rod is better, i plan on getting a 7'0 MH?
  22. I am in the process of getting a new combo. I have a few questions. I want to purchase a 7' MH Fast Abu Garcia Vendetta for $10 after a $50 gift card from Bass Pro. I want to price match a Shimano Curado 200i from Shelton's Clothing (http://stores.sheltonsclothing.com/shimano-curado-i-series-low-profile-baitcast-reel-201i-left-handed/), to Dick's Sporting Goods. I will get the reel for $85 after a $20 off $100 coupon and $25 gift card. Line will be bought from Cabela's using a gift card too. My question is: Will I be able to price match the reel, and then use both the gift card and coupon together? If so, I may have a $275 combo for less than $100 out of pocket.
