Where to put the scale when weighing a fish
If you wanted to do as little damage as you can, the best option would be a grocery store style scale, that you can put a bin of water on and zero it. You could then place the fish in the water and get a weight.

3lb Crappie out of knowhere
Whether it happened or not wasn't important to the questions I was asking. This spring Im going to try to re catch the crappie and ill get a pic this time. I use a really old scale i got from my grandpa, its basically a spring scale with a tape measure on it. Thats also why i cant get exact readings, just around 10 or 3 or 5 lbs. But whether you believe me or not, its not necessarily relevant to the question.

Soft Plastics
Sometimes you have to give up quality for cheap prices. Yamamoto has a higher quality plastic than brands like Zoom. This quality might only make a difference in catching one fish for some lures, but for thinks like senkos, i feel it makes a world of difference. Yamasenkos have a much better action and fall rate than a Yum Dinger. This is due to its high quality plastic formulas. I im loyal as well and even take it into almost a superstition. The only craw baits i will use are Berkleys havoc baits (any of their craws). If im using a diferent craw and not catching fish, then i will usually blame it on the fact that it isnt a havoc.

Abu Garcia Black Max
Is it just me, or does the Black Max seem like a piece of crap? Dont get me wrong I love Abu Garcia but this was the first bait caster i bought from them. When i first got it i thought it was amazing, but when i saw how other reels perform, this one definitely wasnt doing anyhwere near as good. ive never been able to cast over 100 ft with it, if that. Ive tried cleaning and lubing it. Either im doing something wrong, or its just a bad reel. Ive been thinking about getting A lews reel. I hear they are great.

Warming up the spool in the water
Im not very familiar with how everything in the reel works, but I clean my reels in water and I have dropped them in the water, and they are working perfect. After all, fishing reels are made to be near water, so it probably isn't prone to water damage.

lol I actually have a little inflatable raft and I have tried fishing from it. There's only a handful of people that fish/know about this pond, so i only look silly in front of myself haha. The only problem was when I was out towards the middle the wind would blow me right back to shore after about 1-2 casts. I've been looking into kayaks though.

Information?

3lb Crappie out of knowhere
Sort of. I caught it in spring. its not necessarily that i want to catch it again, but im wandering where all the big fish like that crappie could be hiding. i have been fishing here for a couple of years, and ive never seen anh crappie and very rarely do i catch a bass over 14 in. But i know there are big fish in there, so i was wandering where this fish could possibly be. I know underwater structures play a large rule in where bass will spend most of there time.
