  1. That's what I'm currently using. it's the same thing my father used when I was growing up 25 years ago and they work just fine. Just was wondering if I'm missing out on something better. I have been leaning towards the multiple bags. I figured if I'm bank fishing it wouldn't be too bad to have all my stuff, then a separate empty one for a day bag that I could load up and start hiking. It's what I do with all my other tackle so it wouldn't be the worst. Lugging a 3700 Plano guide series bag was never an option. And lugging all of my soft plastics would never work either.
  2. Anyone out there have suggestions for a large soft plastic binder or bag? Up to now I have used the medium sized bps bag but it just isn't cutting it. I'd prefer to have one large one. Was looking at the jumbo shimano binder but I've heard it only comes with 10 ziplock pages and I haven't seen any pages sold separately for it.
  3. I personally don't even touch mono anymore but it's all about your comfort. The nice part about making the switch with spinning gear is it really doesn't take adjustments from your casting to have success. For your finesse techniques I'd highly suggest a decently long flouro leader on a line to line knot. But when it comes to reaction baits tie straight to braid and have at it.
  4. Having them both right there will most certainly help you out. I don't blame ya for wanting dobyns in your arsenal. Both of them are rods that have been out for a while and the reviews are positive and accurate for both. I had a Dobyns Champion xp Flip not long ago and liked it but decided I didn't do enough actual flipping to justify holding onto it. I started doing my lighter flipping on the frogging tcs i talked about before and I turned around and picked up one of the G-rod game changers. I usually have 5 rods on me so versatility is key somewhere in my selection. And I put my money where the majority of my fishing techniques are. I'm sure ou will be happy with your choice no matter what.
  5. Personally I like the tcs. I use the frogging/swimbait model because let's face it, Scott Martin knows his frogs. Like others have said, they are a bit softer than rated. I wouldn't by any means say they lose backbone. Just a little bit more forgiving rod. Martin himself said its intentional because it's all about keeping that fish pinned. When it it comes to names like dobyns, st. croix, loomis, and such, I personally feel like you are buying a name and letting your mind play tricks on you until you get into their higher dollar models. There are lots of companies out there doing everything in their power to make a really great rod for less. Take 13 and their sister no. *** for instance. They are pumping out nasty products for cheap. I owned a st. Croix mojo bass. Nothing wrong with it. But I'd rather have the *** that tackle warehouse has been closing out for months now. I know you aren't asking about them but I think you get the point. If you want a phenomenal rod, keep saving and get something from dobyns or someone in hat league that you will KNOW is better. Otherwise, be confident that the guys like okuma in that 100 dollar range are working hard at getting your business and building their reputation still.
  6. You are right on the money there. I should have been more correct in my original question that it's a low ipt only reel for me in this situation. I know plenty of guys that preach to just slow down reeling speed. Just never felt the need with so many options today.
  7. Monoblock and Lin would put me in the dog house for a lot longer than usual. The little lady already loves seeing those rod shipping tubes showing up at our doorstep. Lol if I do stick to my low profile ways, I am at the very least already convinced that this rod deserves some sort of gold involved in the reel cosmetically. I know this kind of talk is ridiculous in the grand scheme of looking for best application. If nothing else my father will be grinning ilear to ear that I was able to get yesterday's look and feel in today's tech.
  8. That's kind of an interesting idea. I typically only look at low profile stuff but the style definitely fits the classic look of the legend glass. One of the reasons I'm going back to glass on the rod is to get that "feel" back. Graphite is great to feel everything going on. But I have been feeling nostalgic about cranking and especially because it used to be my confidence bait. And maybe I lost some of that because graphite changed how I fished my cranks. The rod only comes in at 5 ounces so I'm not worried about fatigue. Thanks for the idea.
  9. So I pulled he trigger on a backordered St. Croix legend glass rod today. The 7'2" medium. I'm really excited to get back to glass since I really haven't used the stuff since I was a kid. I have been using the avid x mh moderate for all my cranking to this point and decided it's really more suited for all my lipless (usually 1/2 ounce) and medium divers since I have it paired with a lews bb1 pro. My question is this, what reel would you guys pair up with it that comes with a low gear ratio for casting the lighter stuff. I find even the 3/8 bandit are more work than I'd like to do on the lews reel. I know I might get a lot of 200e5 shimano answers but trying to get all my options in front of me and start narrowing it down.
  10. You are going to get a ton of pro qualifier votes but I gotta say I like the Tatula series a lot. Lots of options and you can get pretty technique specific with them.
  11. Anyone at all? I am looking between the phenix M1 and the recon elite series. Open to all kinda of suggestions here. I'm feeling like I'm in the right direction because a lot of people will say for smaller swimbaits use a flipping stick rather than a swimbait rod for flipping and pitching. I'm pretty new to these techniques. Throw me a bone.
  12. I'd like to multi technique a rod specific to pitching and small swimbaits(2.5 oz or less). I am specifically looking at a phenix M1, 7'5" extra heavy that has an extra fast tip. I read some other posts that had guys who owned the phenix M1 say that the tip actually feels more like a fast which I think would be better for my application in case I decide to throw anything that is treble hooks. If anyone who has this particular rod, or anyone has any other suggestions in the 200 dollar price range I am open to any suggestions. I like the idea of staying in that 7 and a half foot range as well. I'm going to be pairing this up with an Abu Garcia revo beast to give anyone who has thoughts an idea of where this is going. Thanks in advance.
