  1. I can definitely agree with you there. The legend tournament line is one of the most beautiful rod designs I’ve ever seen. I just wish they were as durable as they are pretty.
  2. I think it’s more likely that your anecdotal experience is the exception, considering this is now a widely discussed issue all over the internet. Especially as I am what you would call a Saint Croix fanboy, and plan on suffering through the current situation in hopes it will be resolved rather than just some anonymous shill slandering their good name. I think everyone is upset and wants to see them win.
  3. Where do you start in regard to targets, presentations and section (pools/riffles/runs?) I generally start out with some sort of moving presentation, and if I get on the water early enough (sunrise ideally) I am throwing topwater. I gradually transition to something like a squarebill, paddle tail, or jackhammer depending on depth, clarity, and cloud cover. By mid day when the sun is overhead and it’s clear I will switch over to finesse, throwing some form of bottom presentation either tube or Ned. Occasionally if this isn’t producing I will mix in slow moving presentations. For all of these stages I generally attempt to cover as much water as I can, fan casting all around current breaks and slack near current, often even in current if it is moderate enough. How does this compare to your routine? Do you cast downstream to avoid spooking them?
  4. You would think the added action would entice a bite once it comes to rest in the defensive position, but I’m not sure. Do you find these ever to be more effective when traditional finesse tactics aren’t producing?
  5. When was your warranty filled, and what rod specifically? This goes beyond bias and selectivity, it’s a pretty widespread issue. Try calling them tomorrow, leave your number for callback, and wait.
  6. Like I said I am not jumping ship just yet, but I have literally had to buy two of each rod for this reason which is absolutely ridiculous.
  7. 8-10 years ago, yes. Unfortunately I believe my experience does represent a growing majority as evidenced by the sea of identical complaints. It’s a shame as I really do love their rods and want to stay on team SC, but it’s almost to the point where you simply can’t count on them.
  8. Their warranty and customer service used to be the best in the business. Since Covid, it seems to have taken a nosedive. Every time I have tried to warranty a Legend Tournament they have been on “back order” for months. They obviously have rods, they just prioritize these big distributors over loyal customers it seems. They also seem to be extremely prone to breakage, which fragility is somewhat expected in ultralight sensitive rods, but they just seem a wee bit too fragile. I have now broken 3-4 with little to no effort, one while fighting a 1-2 lb smallmouth! I have also had problems with faulty components, the twist lock reel seat has come unglued before even using. I expect more from $300 rods. I have heard and read countless similar experiences with both quality control and warranty service, have they recently changed ownership or just experiencing a severe staffing shortage?
  9. I’ve always heard downsizing is the ticket in low, clear water or on liplocked fish, but wasn’t sure if this closely resembled any of their forage enough to be effective.
  10. Either way I think the overall impact on their diet is negligible compared to gobies, the primary influence of zebras is water clarity.
  11. Yeah, does Erie still hold the crown for average size just LSC has insane quantity?
  12. I already have electrical tape on one, should I get it off and use goo gone?
  13. Yeah it looks hyper realistic. Pumpkin or black?
  14. *smaller (<15”) river smallies are aggressive and easy to catch ? Outside of spring and fall, anything over 18 is an accomplishment.
  15. I typically adhere to the translucent rule, keeping the bait’s presence as subtle as possible and mostly sticking to finesse, especially if it’s sunny. What is your go to arsenal on blue bird, low and slow clear days in your streams?
