  1. Where it's legal, absolutely. I had someone actually make a threat once on a serene and peaceful float/fishing trip in the middle of nowhere. You never know when the need to defend yourself will arise.
  2. I'll be missing it this year. My new son, Colton, decided to make an early entrance into the world and I'll be splitting my time between the hospital and home for the foreseeable future. Healthy little boy apart from being early and he's got a Ninja Turtle rod waiting for when he's ready to join dad someday. Best excuse possible to miss this really. Have fun, all.
  3. I think it comes down to your use and preference. Carbon is an excellent investment in my opinion and I also have an Aquabound paddle. They are a great value for the price and that's why they're so popular. They're not too much more than aluminum and there always seems to be used ones on CL for ~$50. As far as paying ~$250, I think it depends on if the additional features are worth it to you. I recently purchased an AT Oracle angler paddle close to that price and it's got a few neat features the Aquabound doesn't have that are comparable to the BB. To me it was worth the extra $. What I like about the AT paddle is it's got the line hook, easily extends from 250-260 cm, and the Ferrule adjustment is a little easier to use. It's also got a ruler which is nice and the blade is fiberglass which also looks way cooler. For what it's worth, the BB I looked at (Angler Pro and Pro Plus) and actually intended to buy were similar to the AT Oracle but the AT was $150 less so I unexpectedly and happily bought it instead.
  4. My wife always shares the Dave forecast. Fortunately snow has a short lifespan in our area. I like snow but I do prefer it doesn't stick around too long.
  5. We're expecting an inch or so tonight in Richmond. It's possible we'll see up to 8" on Saturday. I've prepared by deliberately procrastinating on taking down the outdoor Christmas decorations.
  6. I've really come to enjoy this community because of the support and care I see in threads like this. My wife lost her father in May of '16 and it's been hard on her daily ever since. I was close with him as well and it's not easy. I don't think there will ever be a single perfect word, phrase, or sentence that someone can say to another who is in mourning. What I will say is that time seems to be the only thing that brings healing and some hint of solace. Thoughts and prayers that in time, this will be the case for you buddy. Sorry for your loss and continue to do as you're doing. Get it off your chest and realize that some times will be harder than others. Friends and family will be there during those harder times. Jason.
  7. A good leader, manager, etc. will encourage you to grow, learn, and progress. That said, improving your salary and changing careers is a (usually necessary) risk. If you're passionate about what you want to do, success will follow. I recently accepted a project management role after managing in the technology field for the last eight years. This was a huge risk as I was very comfortable in what I had been doing and I can't complain about my salary. This new job, despite being outside of my wheelhouse, crossed off every one of my personal and career goals and I've already started really enjoying the first couple of projects I've been managing. If I was in your shoes, I'd likely accept the FT promotion while actively seeking out a position that better aligns with my career aspirations. The fact that you raised the question here is admirable and it shows that you like to collaborate and learn from others. Those are great qualities that will help your career. Best of luck to you and may you and yours have a Merry Christmas.
  8. Sounds good, I'll probably be in touch soon. Jason
  9. Thanks Sam, I appreciate all the info!
  10. I'm still new to bass fishing and fishing in this area so I'm not familiar enough to know where to go or what fish are biting on. I'd be happy to catch a single bluegill. My goal is to just get on the water and cast my line. I'll have some weekdays off in December and I'm hoping to take advantage and try somewhere local. I haven't been fishing since September due to family stuff that involved hospital visits but everything is better now. I'd be grateful to meet with someone as well and learn a thing or two. Thanks, Jason
  11. I'll likely be there.
  12. I have not. In fact, this is the first I've heard of it. I plan to go out this Saturday so I'll have to give that a try. Thanks Sam!
  13. I found my answer in another thread. Big thanks to Sam and WdyCrankbait for sharing so much info in various places on local fishing areas!
  14. This thread interests me. I'm no more than 10 minutes away from Southlake and I have great luck at Robious Landing Park/Watkins Landing. Where is the best place to park to fish Southlake? Shore fishing only I imagine? I never knew there was a lake over there! I was at the DMV just yesterday and parked in the back where the lake appears to be on google maps.
  15. Hello all, I'm from Pittsburgh originally and used to fish for trout and salmon from the shore in Lake Erie and the surrounding rivers. I then stopped fishing when I moved to Virginia back in 2001. I recently got into bass fishing in the last year in large part because of kayak fishing. I tried out fishing on a Jackson Cuda 12 and fell in love with it. I then picked up my own Jackson Coosa HD kayak. I frequent Amelia Lake, Diascund Reservoir, Lake Chesdin, and of course the James River (Watkins Landing, Robious Landing park). My wife has a Wilderness Systems 115 but is more keen on paddling than fishing. I'm still figuring bass fishing out but seem to have good luck on various swim baits, tubes, senkos, and grubs. Grubs and tubes are my current favorites. I am joining this site to learn, share, and maybe even meet up with someone on the water someday. Look forward to perusing the board and meeting some folks.
