No the power cord is OK for it's length. If it is extended the extra wire needs to be larger to reduce voltage drop due to total distance.

THE best setup is a superline with flurocarbon leader. You eliminate the affect of line twist ( doesn't prevent it) and have the fluorocarbon line at the terminal end. A better setup is the above with the two lines connected with a quality ball bearing swivel.

KevO, that could mean several things or a combination of things: Your battery is too small/weak to support powering all that is hooked to it. The battery is not completely charged. You have resistance in the wiring connections that reduces the voltage. You have corrosion on the battery terminals, increasing resistance. Your battery connection is not tight. Your wiring is too small a guage to support the unit at the lower voltage it gets when the starter is engaged. Your fuse holder has a weak spring if you have the round glass type. The best installation for electronics is to extend the unit power cord directly to the power supply with wires that are larger than the power cord conductors (the larger, the better). Use a spade type fuse/holder of the recommended size and solder the spliced wire connections.

There have been several high level tournaments this month, and I haven't seen a Alabama rig mentioned as being involved any any of the top finishes. That is the BASS Southern Open at Harris Chain, Basschamps at Falcon, and Everstart at Big O. How can that possibly be since the A-rig was not banned in those events?

The only published maps are on the Va. Game Commission web site. Select the lake on the Lake list and click on the map link. I have seen a map done somewhat like I do that is part of a "guide to fishing Briery Creek Lake" done by a guide I think. If was worthless for my use though since it was a satellite photo of the area before the lake was built and the topo overlaid on it. Some contour lines in a forest is tough to read. I have some original paper maps of both, but the Briery Creek one is not very good. The one published by Prince Edward County for Sandy River is about as good as you will find--still only has 10' contours though.

The most visible line color that fishermen use is black. That is the color that some add to their superlines and fish it with confidence. What that shows is line color makes no difference to the fish. No opaque line is invistible-white or other wise. A white line in green background such as weeds is going to be very visible. A white line against a white background like white sand will be less noticeable because it blends in with the background. Green line in a green background will be less noticeable, but the green does not disappear. That "marketing" of some magical invisibility of Red lines has suckered many fishermen. The fact is that red is one of the first colors to be filtered by depth of water, BUT the line does not disappear, it just doesn't appear red at depth. Fluorocarbon monofilament lines are the only lines the may appear invisible in water due it its density that is the closest to water of any lines, but they still transmit light somewhat like fiber optic threads. Bottom line is NO I don't believe the marketing claim of that line color, white line is NOT invisible or nearly invisible. Use it if you want to, the fish don't care. One of the top colors for bed fishing plastics is white because it contrasts against the lake bottom colors the best. White tubes, white lizzards, etc.

I use yellow superlines so I can see them. All the superlines are white, they just get a coat of coloring which fades over time. The superline material won't absord coloring agents. The fish don't care what the line color is, fishermen do.

That just goes to show how companies take advantage of the gullibility of consumers. The GoreTex fibers in them selves do not make a garment water-proof. It is the tight weave of the threads that produces the waterproofness. Suffix uses that brand name to sucker the consumer into buying their product. The same line with no GoreTex thread would perform the same. That one thread out of 8 in the 832 does not make the other 7 threads more water-repellent, they already are. Water can be absorbed within the weave over time, but that has nothing to do with the threads that make up the line. If you leave a braid in the water long enough for the water to replace the air, it won't float. Plastic is denser than water.

The Elite angler tournament committee that made that decision because it may cause injury to the bass should do some more soul searching about their fish handling practices. Boat flipping them to the carpet, then putting on a show for the camera before putting the fish in the livewell sure doesn't represent any concern for the fish's well being.

Imore, you have a good grasp on presentation techniques with the line affecting fall rates. Those that realize the benefits of the line types can include that as part of their presentations. One of my primary uses for fluorocarbon line is for a leader with braid for weightless plastics and big bass in heavy cover. I use 20# fluorocarbon in about a 4' length for weight to make the braid sink as a counter to its floating characteristic. My avatar is my primary presentation most of the year from 0'-30'. Subtle weighting is the key to fall rate, depth control, plus counteracting current and/or wind. It's also whole lot easier to break than the 40# superline I use if I get hung up. Getting back to the orignal post about braids and topwater, when chasing schooling bass where a long cast is necessary sometimes, the near zero stretch and the floatation of the line will get you a better hook-to-land ratio.

Imoore, my reference about fluorocarbon was concerning the post by rubba bubba "If by 'braid' you mean 'fluorocarbon', then yes you are correct." Some "pros" state that they use fluorocarbon because it doesn't stretch or has low stretch. That is completely false. It has the stretch characteristics of Berkley XL. One's feelings of how something performs, is sometimes completely opposite of reality. Bobby Lane may have been referencing the Spiderwire Fluorocarbon Braid, but the Dyneema and Spectra braids float unless they are weighted--there are some weighted superlines (do a web search). Do you know what braid he was referring to? Even Fireline floats and that is not a braided superline, it is fused superline. Nylon monofilament doesn't float either. It will stay on the surface due to surface tension, but once submerged, it will not return to the surface. All that is simple to test, just get some samples and put them in a jug of water. It ain't rocket science.

Imoore, do you even know what braid is???? What makes you think it sinks, tying a weight to it??? Fluorocarbon is NOT a braid, it is a single filament (mono) just like nylon mono, just different properites that are denser so it sinks faster than nylon mono. The Suffix 832 has one thread of the 8 that is GoreTex. That leaves the other seven threads made out of same material that some other braids are made of (Dyneema) which is a fancy word for plastic--832 floats. A superline braid is made of Dyneema or Spectra fibers made into threads that are "braided" to make the useable product a fishing line. It is not solid, therefor it has air between the threads--that makes it float. Any braided line that is advertized as a sinking braid has extra properites added to increase the weight to overcome the natural floating properties due to air space and fiber density. There is a fluroocarbon braid "Spiderwire Fluoro Braid" but it would have more of a tendency to resist sinking like a single strand fluorocarbon would.

I have read about other brands with water/moisture issues. There are no absolutes. I have only experienced it with another brand.

I used the acmemapper web site and printed the Satellite photo on white paper, then printed the same settings with the Topo view on a clear sheet. Then put the clear sheet on top of the photo sheet and had it laminated. If you want a larger size you can take the prints or the digital scan to a place like Staples and get them copied on larger paper. I have some parts of Sandy River and Briery Creek done that way to show others about the lake, but I don't need to use them.

I saw a post on another site that Tennesse may consider the A-rg in the future. It will probably be a regulation topic in the early Spring.

A couple of my recent creations using a stainless steel whisk as a wire source and some epoxy putty to cover the aluminum ferrule that holds the wires together. Painted with some paint pencils. Crude but effective since the attachements are what makes it work.

The 3 arm rig has been in use since that Kentucky Lake tournament that was held after the A-rig craze Guntersville tournament.
