Gold reel in the middle looks like a shimano calcutta conquest - that's a good one.

Nrx 854 for jigs
I'm torn on this one as I own the NRX 854, 893, and 873ccr. For 3/8 my preference is 893. The 873ccr is a great 1/2 ounce jig setup. I originally bought the 854 for 3/8 and ended up missing fish until I switched from fluorocarbon to a braid with a floro leader. With the switch I am not missing hook sets. If you like the EMFT the mega bass perfect pitch could be a good option.

Have a house in the Gravois arm and on the Niangua arm that I stay at. So usually in the Gravios or just outside in the Osage, or up the Niangua arm. I fish a few tournaments a year for fun typically out of PB2, the Bucks or Alhonna.

When to throw a buzzbait?
Post spawn, late summer, and fall. Cast out and start your retrieve right as the bait is hitting the water, a high speed reel is a good thing here. I like to start with a black bait with a gold blade. Always fish with a trailer hook, and if you are getting short strikes you likely need to change colors. If black isn't working switch to white and then chartreuse and white. I have caught numerous big fish on a buzz bait. An alternative to buzzing is a whopper plopper.

Early spring LOZ
It can all be good with the different arms of the lake turning on at different times. Up river will turn first, and the spawn will happen there. Down river with the clearer water along with the gravois arm jerk baits and Alabama rigs will produce. That time of year will produce fish everywhere. Mid lake has produced some good fish on flash mob jr, wiggle wart, 3/8 ounce jigs, and jerkbaits. Secondary points with 45 degree sloping banks produce the best. Texas rigged or Carolina rigged zoom lizards have also produced some quality fish. Depending on the water temperature you can catch fish doing about anything.

Hello everyone, finally completing an introduction - I have been browsing for months. I have been fishing on and off for 30 years but started fishing for bass seriously for the last 10 years or maybe a little more. I like to also fish for crappie and rainbow trout, but don't get to do that much anymore. I like to fish for fun and also fish some tournaments as well. Browsing this site I have picked up some good pointers on everything from techniques to equipment. I look forward to posting and chiming in when I can. Take care - Steve
