I am new to buzzbait fishing and was wondering what time of year is good for buzzbaits and what conditions 

They dont work well early , for me anyhow. I have luck with them from post spawn to early winter .

Never!  I tried them many times with zero bites.  I hate how, when retrieving, loosing 10-12 feet of a cast until it reached the surface.

Buzzbaits will catch bass year-round, but I assume you're asking for the best season.

In my experience (Canada to Florida) the best topwater bite occurs during the 'post-spawn'.

My second favorite time is the 'post-summer' period, but usually not as pronounced as the post-spawn.

Wow, as long as you're using a faster reel and heavy enough line, most buzzbaits should plane within 5 feet or less. Try using them in low light periods and cloudy weather whenever the water is in the mid 60s or higher, and you'll start getting smoked on them.

in Florida,anytime is buzz bait time.................

A buzzbzit should be moving as soon as it touches down .Do not allow them to sink .

You know what I like about a buzzbait?

You may want to try a Cavitron. And as mentioned above, probably a faster reel and get it moving just as it is hitting the water. 

Post spawn, late summer, and fall.  Cast out and start your retrieve right as the bait is hitting the water, a high speed reel is a good thing here. I like to start with a black bait with a gold blade. Always fish with a trailer hook, and if you are getting short strikes you likely need to change colors. If black isn't working switch to white and then chartreuse and white.  I have caught numerous big fish on a buzz bait. An alternative to buzzing is a whopper plopper.  

Post spawn through late fall. I fishthem all day long and had some of my best says this year fishing nothingbut a buzzbait all day.

I dont exactly know how  I do it sitting here in the recliner . I  get the  buzzbait moving toward me a split second before it hits the water  .I think I'm pulling back on the rod a bit . When done right it doesnt sink  a bit .

 This ^^^^^,... engage the reel before it touches down and your good to GO!,..

 best season?,... if done right, any of them but summer is a good time for one.

 Typically,... I only throw one when its raining,...

Yes, as Scaleface and others have said, start reeling in just before it hits the water and it will stay on top. The best producing color here in clear Michigan lakes is black with silver/aluminum blade.

I concur . Look closely and you will see the boat is soaked . It was lightly raining in July when a bass sucked this  buzzbait under

. The lure just disappeared . You can see the blade between the jaw and my hand .

 

A lot of my fish in this video were on a buzzbait, including my largest of the day that I caught right around noon, or 11:35 in the video.
