  1. Just got a fuego ct. Have a tatula 100 as well. Solid reels, love the breaking. Long smooth cast.
  2. Do it... You know you want to seriously though you won't regret it. It's a solid reel. Compares favourably to my OG tatula 100.
  3. Given the choice I will use one piece rods. Family vacation, using two piece rods. Otherwise my one piece will end up two pieces
  4. They can all catch fish. St Croix and Loomis will offer more refinements which results in more sensitivity, which usually results in more fish. There are lots of good rods in the $100-$150 range. I love my Fenwick HMG, caught many fish with it. I have a used shimano compre that is decent, it catches me fish. My preference is to use my st Croix rods though. I also take care of my gear. It's a hobby that I enjoy so I spend some money on it.
  5. Are you closing the bail by hand after making a cast? When you spooled the line are you sure you spooled it on the reel correctly? Sounds like line twist to me
  6. X2 on st Croix 6'8 m-xf. Avid line and up.
  7. This is a big factor is quality and price.
  8. Fellow Canadian, Ontario. Just got a Daiwa Fuego CT in an 8.1 ratio on Amazon.ca for $113. They just dropped it to $107. Jump On It.... free shipping as well. arrived in 4 days.
  9. Very true. My understanding is that they were introduced to North America over 100 years ago and have thrived here since. The Asian carp are a very serious threat to the great lakes and my understanding is that various agencies have taken extreme care to put measures in place to prevent the spread of them. I figure the common carp is as native here as I am, since my family heritage is German/French someone is my family line came here from Europe a long time ago
  10. Here in Ontario, Canada we have common carp. Not the envasive species. I might just take you up on that advice. That sounds like a fun battle
  11. Best fight I have had yet, apparently they are commonly found in my area in the 20-40lb range. Can't wait to meet those ones
  12. Caught my first two carp today. 4 1/2 & 5 lbs, but what a fun fight. Now I see why people enjoy them so much. Won't be my last time that's for sure. Was afraid the gammy #10 octopus hooks would bend out from the fight but they held up awesome. Used a 6'10" MH-XF casting rod and some 50lb braid to a 15lb fluorocarbon leader and a 3/8 oz sinker. Simple corn on the hook and chummed the water with corn. Took awhile to get bit, but wow that was fun. Hope this helps anyone thinking of trying for carp.
  13. I have the St Croix Avid X 6'6 Mh-f and it's a great rod. Highly recommended.
  14. Don't take it personally. Your doing the right things in what sounds like the right place, but my guess is that there wasn't fish there at that time. Think of it like your home, your comfortable there, you live there, but your not always at home. Same concept
  15. The pinion gear looks like it's scratched a few places. Don't see much on the main gear.
  16. Long story short, I was cleaning a used Daiwa Tatula 100 HSL (my first time) and after reassembling and cleaning it about 17 times, I think I may have damaged one or both of the gears. I just received a new Daiwa Fuego and the manual shows not to turn the handle or engage the clutch without a spool inside the frame as it will damage gears. Pretty sure this is where I went wrong, as I did exactly what it said not to do The Tatula still works but it's a bit "grindy". Would I need to replace both the main gear and pinion gear or just the pinion gear? Does anyone know a good place to order these parts? Thanks for your time. FWIW the Fuego is a really nice smooth reel. Can't wait to get it out on the water.
  17. Quality equipment will last you a long time. But I would put that money aside until you know what techniques you want to focus on. Or what equipment you want. I suggest thinking of the long game here.
  18. Firstly, my condolences to you and your family for your loss. Even though it was 12 years ago, I know it isn't an easy thing to deal with. Checking sites like craigslist or Kijiji is a good start. People here are quite knowledgeable. There is a buy and sell part of this site and I am sure people would give you fair value. Are you sure you don't want to keep it for sentimental reasons or pass it down to other family members or grandchildren?
  19. The one suggestion I will add is that it is a truly finnese presentation. It has to look natural and fished slow, if you think your fishing it slow, work on doing it slower. It's highly productive.
  20. Thanks for the review. Just ordered the Daiwa Fuego ct xsl 8:1 and some 30lb braid. Can't wait to try it out.
  21. It's cheaper to buy quality items once. Get the best reel you can afford that suits your needs. The saltwater rating is going to require a quality reel with quality parts, which generally means more money. But it will last a lot longer.
  22. I was out a few days ago casting 3/8 oz weights with a St Croix Avid X 6'6 Mh-f and a Daiwa Tatula with 50lb braid. Had no problems at all casting a good distance from the bank, I estimated an honest 45 yards. I really like the feel of the avid x personally, but I hear great things about dobyns too. Maybe a medium power st Croix would fit what your looking for. But I like the added versatility of a MH-F. Like I said it can throw the lighter stuff just fine.
  23. *&it happens
  24. Pflueger president xt size 30. I have two of them and they have been good.
  25. My guess is there might be a lack of parenting. The thing that drives me crazy is when people feel the need to toss there garbage all over the place and spoil a beautiful fishing spot. Bring a garbage bag, it is not that hard. Coffee cups, beer cans, worm containers, food wrappers... I am not a tree hugger but seriously how about a little appreciation nature.
