  1. What? Thanks for the replies about cutting off the stock hooks guys... that makes way better sense, I will definitely try this
  2. The bps later eye 1/4 oz has a different sound and has accounted for a many a bass in my weigh in bag.... they're not too noisy and not too subtle... they're just right... and reasonably priced
  3. The overall reason for the lethargic attitude of the fish I believe was lack of wind... you always want a little ripple of some sort, not gale force but even a slight breeze is better than calm and slick. try using 6# floro and a watermelon red flake yum finger wacky style... that should do the trick... a dinger thrown in a unpressured body of water can do some serious damage on the resident bass.... I do well on pressured waters with it myself
  4. Hey guys I've been tournament bass fishing for about 20 years and I have a pretty good deal on how to get a lot of bites in the fall months when bass are focused on shad and baitfish but my lure of utmost confidence has a slight flaw and that is where I was looking for ideas to help in this dilemma. In the fall months I absolutely wreak havoc on the bass population while simply tossing a 1/4oz Mepps Aglia No.3 everywhere I go and it is my GO-TO bait hands down during this season. Problem is I get a lot of fish that swipe at the bait, don't totally commit, or wind up coming unbuttoned during battle and it is a serious issue that needs attention. I want to somehow add another treble to the existing one on the bait but don't know exactly how to go about doing so. I am totally happy with the way my aglia draws strikes and I don't want to change anything that will make the bait do anything that it isn't already doing... Any suggestions on what I can do to aid my bait so as to miss or lose fewer fish.... Thanks guys
  5. If you aren't cussing, you aren't fishing hard enough!
  6. Man, isn't it great when you try a new way to fish and find success! I did that today when I caught a fine 6 lber on my dropshot, I've caught hundreds on the DS but I had never used a tube as the bait. I have now an obvious confidence in this bait on my DS as I was looking for an edge on my lake that sees a lot of pressure ... it's strictly a C&R lake and there are a lot of small 1 to 2 lbers in the water , but man these fish see a lot of lures..... I ended up catching another solid 2 lb male on my tubed out DS, while driving home I was thinking to myself, why hadn't I tried this earlier. My question is this, does anyone have a favorite bait they use with the DS?.... I realize the tube on a DS isn't my idea but I sure do wonder why it's taken me this long to try it out.... Can anyone let me know if they have good results with tubes as the bait that maybe have a tip they could maybe pass on?... thanks to all who read.
  7. 3 1/2 inch Zoom small tube (watrmln/red)..... yes, I too have always either Texas rigged em or used a tube jighead (insert).....

  9. That looks like a largemouth to me buddy
  10. Very innovative technique bro.... yea gonna have to try that so I can finally see how deep some of these ponds are... thanks
  11. Senko blk/blu 1/2 oz jig chiggercraw booyah pad crasher kitech swing impact on 1/4 head
  12. So it's basically a Smargemouth bass cool.... I've never heard of mean mouth bass before now... wow... but it's a bass so they are cool and theat one looks like it would peel a little drag!!
  13. Where's your senkos or dingers... no tacklebox is complete without them. Period
  14. Wind means to me if the water is off colored or any color than crystal clear, spinnerbait... and I try to fish the wind blown side of ponds or lakes... wind pushes baitfish and other stuff to these areas and a spinnerbait was made to fish in the wind... I think there are better bait choices at other times and conditions but I use the old adage Wind=Spinnerbait, and it's a good choice
  15. Wow thanks for the info I'm gonna try and get some info in the ways above.... ?
  16. I fish a few ponds and small lakes in between my club tournaments as I'm a co angler and am boatless at the moment but as most of you know a bent rod is a bent rod!!Anyway I'm having issues obviously on the bottom layouts of these places I fish as there is no maps I'm aware of for these smaller bodies, now I catch plenty of fish during spring and summer but early spring/late winter is tough as I can read what's underneath and put it together. I try my best with figuring out where the flats are and points obviously, but I can't see the channel or other goodies or holes that. Oils be awesome.. is there anything I can do besides ride around in a Jon boat with a depth finder and put it together... is there anything online that may show me something?... if it's a dumb question please don't laugh at me as I'm just trying to get a better idea of the waters I fish and what they look like underneath.. thanks
  17. Hey guys just a quest, it may be dumb but I've noticed that LIVE says it's returns Friday at 7am, but with the tourney starting Thursday can we at least watch the weigh in at 3:15 like usual?..... I'm guessing so but if anyone could clue me in I'd appreciate it
  18. Catch the oscars as many as you can and take them out. Help a largie out!?
  19. I would have followed that dude around the lake all day fishing all up next to him , slamming rod lockers, casting giant 5 oz spoons past his boat, cutting him off all kinds of sh&$ like that , but that's me! Dude would have a few black eyes fishing in my club for real
  20. My club is the same way,and I love the format, I am wanting my boater to catch fish and he wants me to catch fish... We work together to bring in our five biggest bass of the day... If I draw a boater that has no knowledge of the water, me being a boater for 15 years, I will try and get us on something. But this way we are in it together, if I catch a 8 lber and she goes in the live well, my partner can say " well, we got us a biggun to bring in today!"... And I say"Yep we sure do!"... I like the format... If he catches all five and I blank or the total opposite happens, we are still splitting the pot!..??
  21. My thoughts are I use the old system of fish the 3rd day of any STABLE weather, believe it or not bass don't care much for the up and down temps as much as we think, they know the days are still short and with cold nights they aren't fooled, but after a second day of being near 70 any angler worth his salt must abandon whatever he is doing, be it weddings, yardwork, whatever it is, and just go fishing... My thinking is as I live in VA and also have experienced this warm winter, so I say it is prespawn type baits and patterns NOW until you see a few bigger females up spawning,... But until then we are NOW in prespawn... My only hope is we don't get an Arctic blasts and it fouls us and the fish up even more than most years?
  22. I like the old classics when guys grew up fishing in ponds and streams and had to learn things pretty much on their own... Now with the Internet, high end electronics and lake map capability, anyone can just jump into fishing and be right up there with or surpass the older pros who came up actually using trial and error... Note the first elite tournament going on at Cherokee lake, these guys use high end electronics to find fish , then drop a little minnow type jig (families) straight down to the fish and a lot of times can see the fish hit the bait... No experience needed... And you look at the top ten most all "this generation " anglers experienced in electronics and Internet.... I enjoyed last years TTBC on Texoma when the lake flooded and the fish followed the rising water, go look at the top 10 there and you see the true fishermen able to find and catch bass with their instincts... Electronics didn't mean that much and that to me is a truly special deal, when you straight up have to find and catch fish without technology... It's really gotten out of hand and a brain will no longer be needed in the future if these companies continue to pump out all this high tech help.. Learn to use technology and that takes you straight to the fish... Instead of learning about the fish... Love those shallow water "real" tournaments
  23. I picked Walker as did most all of us it seems... Don't worry or give up on the dude... As most of us know the standings after day one rarely look like the standings after day three... He does however need to make the 50 cut ?
  24. Lucky craft pointer 100.... That's all you need as far as jerkbait ... I've tried them all and the LC pointer out produces any jb ever made.... Remember the JB is best in clearer water
  25. BassB8caster, sometimes this early in the year things can be slow everywhere, don't let that discourage you... Once it warms up good tie a #2 circle hook on the end of your line the put a 1/16 oz splitshot squeezed on the line butted up against the knot and put a June bug Yum dinger wacky style on your hook and sling that sucker around everywhere you think a bass should be... If there's bass in that pond and it doesn't get a lot of pressure, this spring they should hammer the dinger... Then write a post thanking me for your best day ever.... TGO
