What speed reel do you use for swim jigs?
Or maybe a different technique? I like to yo-yo mine in the water column. Covering a range of 8ft or so and then let it fall down 8ft or so and lift it again. After the fall and when im getting ready to lift is normally when I feel that desired GOOD weight on the end! I run a 7:4:1 reel BTW for this presentation.

Metanium MGL vs Aluminium Daiwa Steez vs Conquest 100
Also don't forget material of the reel. Magnesium more readily reacts with salt water and supports corrosion quicker than say an aluminum reel. Sealed reels are great but there are more factors than just that. Reality is you can use almost any reel for both salt and fresh, some will just require a heck of a lot more maintenance and upkeep.

Out of curiosity, what exactly did you machine?

Dang it! I typed that out loud again!!

I do something similar except I use a Zappo Twin blade and slide the hook point into the line hole on the twin blade. The twin blades are then sitting under the bottom of the worm attached to the hook. You'll never lose a blade, unless you lose the hook! Works like a charm. You can even cut off one blade if you want a single blade setup, FYI Zappo twin blade rigged to an Owner beast hook keel weighted, and a 4.8 Keitech, DEADLY!

G Loomis GLX 894c JWR
American Legacy had 25% of a week or two ago. You can always email them and see if they might extend the offer to you. Never hurts to ask.\ EDIT: NRX 894C (demo model) 25% off at Tackle Trap, jump on it!

G Loomis GLX 894c JWR
I have both NRX and GLX (3 power NRX, 4 power GLX) same rod and length however. NRX is noticeably lighter and more sensitive. Is it worth it, depends really. They both are very sensitive, and the GLX will produce just as well as the NRX and you aren't missing much. Do I like the NRX better, of course, but the GLX isnt slacking by any means. Is it worth it is solely up to your budget. I will I'll add this though, the reason I bought the NRX is because it was 25% off and cheaper than the GLX at that time. Otherwise I would have gotten a GLX and never thought twice about the NRX.

Can/Do Bass Spawn on Ledges?
Try Elm Cove, fish the eastern bank all the way down the shoreline, from the main lake point all the way back into the creek, its been of FIRE lately. Real gradual slope to about 30 feet, fish the shores for males, or back off to deeper water for the females. Couple of other places that have been hot lately are Habys cove and the spill way by the dam. Google earth the lake, you can find aerial views from when it was low and find some really good spots! Didn't see any beds when I was out there a week ago, but they were in full pre-spawn attack mode, vicious strikes!! When did you fish there last? I'm looking to get out there on sunday with the Kayak.

Engineering Career Related to Fishing
No contracts, I work directly for the Air Force. Search USAjobs.gov those are all Govn positions with all sorts of services. Dept of wildlife, military branches, FAA, you name it, that's how I found my job. I was prior enlisted so I can say how the service helped me, if that's something you want just be sure because it is an absolute commitment once you swear in, no turning back. I wouldn't recommend this. ME's tend to get stuck in jobs because they have a masters in a certain subject. If you get an engineering master, you better love that one subject and be willing to work on it your whole life. Most ME's get MBA's as a masters degree and move into project management and the business side of the job. As they say, a business man can't be an engineer, but an engineer can be a business man. ?

Topo breakdown
I fish medina at least 4 times a month. I'm glad you noticed that Google maps shows it nearly dry. I and some friends went out there and scouted some nice spots when it was even lower than that. I've used this to my advantage and have put some really nice 5lbs plus bass in the yak this past year. My advice to you, fish the water run off channels you see when it is dry. If you look on google you will see those water runoff channels everywhere, and they filled up with vegetation when it was low. Most of my big bass have come out of those channels by the dam, and top water by the dam spill way in the morning, the best!!

Engineering Career Related to Fishing
I'm an ME, it's going to take some work to get into the industry. Most employers want experience so be patient. The best advice I can give you, make your senior project something fishing related. When you send of your resumes to these companies talk about your project or as I did, include it! It shows not only that this is your passion but it looks really good to them!
