Where to fish anywhere near Orlando?
Im leaving Wednesday 3/20 to take my wife and young kids family down to Orlando again for a week, its going to be crazy busy Im sure so Im looking to find somewhere to fish 1-2 times. I would say for LM bass but really Im up for anything. Any shore fishing or piers within a short/medium drive? Or should I rent a small fishing boat for a half day, if so suggestions on lakes? If the options are not great, and can be patient and fish at home after now that the weather is changing. Ive only fished in FL once, over in Venice/VEnice beach on a private golf course. Those ponds were loaded and caught tons of nice LM. That was 15 years ago, and my only FL fishing.

What reel or reel weight to balance? Legend rods
Absolutely, i agree! I thought we were all talking spinning rods here since those were the rods I mentioned. I wasn't meaning to have a general conversation on rod balance, but to these rods specifically if someone knew. For spinning rods sure it matters where you hold it, but with that constant, obviously different reel weights will affect that balance AT that same point. Not sure how this is over thought, I feel it instantly in 1 sec after picking up any rod.

Do you prefer ML or M for smallmouth? Baits for each?
I didn't know there was a 610 mlf, or was that a typo?

What reel or reel weight to balance? Legend rods
Man that rod you have was on my #1 for quite some time. How do you like it? I would have guessed a 2000 LT for that rod, but those Tatula LTs are pretty light though. 66 has been my favorite size for a long time, but I only fish from my boat now, so Im hoping i like the LTW 7ft. I picked the 7MLF as my go-to, pick up first type rod while I throw some small crankbaits and light plastics, and figure out what the game plan needs to be. I hope I like it.

What reel or reel weight to balance? Legend rods
Looking for recommendations on what will balance well on: St Croix LTW 7MLF St Croix LTB 610 MLXF Looking a Tatula LT, Ballistic LT and Stradic Ci4+ for the most part. I really like my ballistic 2000. I was going to try that on both above when the rod arrives. Not sure if it will be too light to balance well.

Do you prefer ML or M for smallmouth? Baits for each?
For comparison, i think the 69mlxf avidx is LESS tip heavy than my LTB 610 mlxf. The 69mlxf either has a much softer tip, or the 610 transitions in a reasonably strong backbone pretty quickly. I guess in my opinion they feel quite different, more than 1 inch would suggest. The Avid x 69 actually weighs 1/2 oz less than the LTB 610 per their website also, and that seems to match what i noticed. They dont offer the trade program anymore, otherwise id probably trade up this 610 LTB for an extreme 69mlxf. I think that rod would match what i want better, any 69mlxf really though.

That 69mlxf didnt strike me as stiffer than normal ML but I havent fished it. I have the LTB 610 MLXF, but something about it I just cant pinpoint. It a little tip heavy but plenty strong, I think the 69mlxf feels a lot different to be honest, maybe the FK 3000 i have on my 610 it is part of my issue, not sure. I just havent found it to be a favorite of mine yet like some on here...

Is extraFast action TOO FAST?
I know this is an old thread, but what is the difference mentioned above? How would a medium fast spinning compare to a medium fast casting power and action?

Do you prefer ML or M for smallmouth? Baits for each?
I think Im going to get the 7MLF Avid X or LTW. I like the new cork full handle of the LTW. For the Medium, Ill think Ill stick w my ETB or an Aetos. Something about that Avid MF just feel too stiff to me, maybe it comes to life when fishing it.

I've heard the same many times. My LTB 610MLXF feels that way. The MLF rods didnt strike me that way but havent fished one. My Fenwick ETB 610MLXF feels very soft and not powerful, but its super fun. My ETB 7MF, feels great, and versatile (may upgrade to Aetos MF). Im wondering where the Avid and LTB ML/M fall in with those Elite Techs. I was somewhat wanting to splurge on a Legend if I think I would use it most of the time. I already have a 610MLXF LTB, but I dont use it much, and Im not sure Im an XFast type guy. If a Legend 7 MLF or 7MF is flat out amazing, Ill purchase just that one. Otherwise Ill be experimenting with an AvidX and just have to do trial and error. ALthough I think the Avid X 7 MLF will be a good rod, and then I would stick with my 7MF Fenwick. Part of this just trying rods, and selling off what I dont find to be a personal favorite. You guys got me, and somehow made me very selective with something I never thought possible lol. Most expensive forum ive ever visited haha. If any of this sounds ridiculous, I HAVE to buy a rod. I have an old unfixable St croix rod that I was issued a credit towards a new one. Dont necessarily need one, but trying to buy a rod that stands out as a great rod, in AvidX or LT lines.

Looking to upgrade a couple older rods, to an Avid X or Legend. What do you think is a better match for smallmouth and some walleye fishing, a MLF or MF? Probably get a 7' this time. Clear open water maybe 75% of the time. Normally which rod would you reach for and what baits do you use most on ML vs M? Since Im looking in the St Croix line, is the ML more powerful/useful if they run heavier than some brands?

Daiwa Fuego CT or Shimano SLX
Yeah I thnk I will pick one up to try. Besides they will look great on my blue Aetos or Champion, and fish dig that.

How to repair tip rod guide on nice rod?
Yes and thanks for the help. I'm debating taking it in or just order and learn myself. Id like to learn myself like I do with most things, seems like the way to go with just a tip guide. THanks again for your help!!

How to repair tip rod guide on nice rod?
I found a place to repair it near me, they use Fuji guides. I know Ive heard of Fuji guides, but what level rods do these normally come on? Are these equal to what comes on an Aetos or Avid or similar?

Daiwa Fuego CT or Shimano SLX
IS the SLX more of a low profile design, better for lighter baits and not cranking fish from cover or heavy baits? Or doesnt matter much? The braking system on the Fuego is awesome and easy to dial in. Is the SLX just as forgiving during and after initial 2 minute setup to get the adjustments right?

Daiwa Fuego CT or Shimano SLX
I bought a few Fuego CTs last summer as I was just getting into baitcasting setups. So far so good. I need 1-2 more now for this year, should I try an SLX or stick with the Fuego? The prices are similar. Which one do you like, and is there much of a difference between the 2?

How to repair tip rod guide on nice rod?
So I did something really dumb in my garage comparing a few of my new casting rods..... I broke the last guide on my new Aetos casting rod. I bent it pretty good and then when trying to straighten it I could hear that it wasnt solid anymore, and one side is of the small mount wires is broken, and the main connection in the center is broken also. The break is contained to the guide, but the whole guide will need to be replaced. Is this something I can fix myself, or take it somewhere here in SE Michigan? If good parts are available, Im sure I can learn how, but not sure if an Aetos if the right rod to practice on. Advice?

Which mojo or premier to buy?
Yeah I think it's worth a try, the mhf seems to be well liked, so I may try that for getting into some weeds and grass areas, and at least some 1/2 oz spinnerbaits and jigs.
-
Which mojo or premier to buy?
I did handle a couple premier casting rods at bass pro yesterday and the solid cork handle did feel a bit bigger than the other rods, its the diameter of the full cork. Maybe thats where it comes from. That 71MHF sure feels decent to me, and Im not a fan of MH rods since I dont normally need them. Im trying to outfit something a bit heavier than my normal Medium rods so I dont have to shy away from weeds and some cover anymore. Being the Mojo is one of the cheaper good rods, Id rather not break the bank on a MH rod in case I dont wind up fishing it much. I plan to use 40lb braid and a 10-15 lb FC leader for starters. If I fish this way a lot Ill add to it and get the 734C finally....

Mojo 71MHF or MHMF? Anyone used these?

Which mojo or premier to buy?
I have a bunch of rods already, but need to send back an old broken premier. I get a credit towards retail price on a new rod. Trying to go cheap since I don't really need any rods, I have some avids and legends already. What rods stand out as good models to try in these lines? Was thinking a mojo casting 71mhf for jigs and spinnerbait, or a premier crankbait MM rod? Or skip it and just get another avid?

Ready To Hit The Water!
Looks good. How does that kastking compare to fuego ct or black max, I guess those are roughly same price range. I like the fuego so far, but need 2 more reels.

What rod to buy more versatile than my LTB 63mxf?
That's what people say, so that what I bought 2 years ago. They work well once you get used to a short rod, plus xf, plus braid. I know a 66 or 70MLF and 7MF would be more versatile, just not sure they would be as good or for for jigging then.
-
What rod to buy more versatile than my LTB 63mxf?
I have 2 st croix legend tournament walleye rods, 63 MLXF and MXF. I really onkyuse these for river jigging a couple outings each spring. If I were to replace them w an equivalent quality rod, what would you pick and still be able to river jig with 3/8 and 5/8 oz vertical jigs? I was think maybe swapping the MXF for a LTB 7ft MF. Just run braid for vertical in the spring? Maybe vertical is less fun w a longer rod, but I Just want to get more use from these LTBs. Otherwise, what other smallmouth and walleye techniques would you do with the 63 rods?

Flipping left handed vs right handed
I only have 1-2 years on a baitcasting setup but I can cast, flip, long short whatever no problem. HOWEVER, with my spinning reels, I cant reel with my left hand to save my life. Ive tried several times walleye jigging, and it feels super awkward, like throwing a ball with the wrong hand. ^^I agree with this. I did this at a young age so it was just part of learning the fluid motions.
