  1. Ive tried 4 or 5 different braids, and I can cut all but one with my teeth. I cant cut PowerPro with my teeth, so IMO its more abrasion resistant than anything else out there.
  2. I heard the Sustain is being updated/replaced too.
  3. Been there, tried it. Still using PowerPro for most applications. The only other braid I like to use these days is P-Line.
  4. The Sol is a nice reel. Fit and finish are nice, casting is smooth, handles fish well, great drag system. I have one that Im looking to sell, Ive made 50 casts with it total. Paid $220 for it, PM me an offer.
  5. I ahve the Daiwa Sol and Fuego, and I like them both. They have a more "solid" feel when cranking than the Curado and also have a better braking system. On the other hand, the Curado is more smooth when casting. I say spend an extra $70 and get the Chronarch 50MG! Its my new favorite.
  6. Shimano. I do like my Daiwa reels, IMO the MagForce system is much better than the system found on most Shimano's.
  7. I agree completely. Resumes, on top of proposals, are used to sell the concept. After the decison maker has reviewed your materials, you should get a face to face meeting with that person(s) to negotiate what you will be recieving in return for the service you provide. A decision maker is loking for return on investment, your job is to show how you can provide that. What promotional ideas do you have? How many trade shows can you attend? Do you have a web site? Just remember to never, never, never, ever ask for anything, be it product or monetary compensation in any of your marketing materials.
  8. I use the KVD stuff the night before an outing.
  9. Those carbon fiber handles are pretty expensive. A guy can buy a sheet of carbon fiber at the local hobby store, spend an hour or two with a Dremel tool, and have 10 of those things for about $30.
  10. Thanks for the link. I'll definately keep him in mind.
  11. Who do you think the best custom rod maker is, and why? Im in the market for some custom rods, need to get some opinions. Cost is no object, the very highest quality materials and workmanship is all I want.
  12. Just looking at it from a business perspective, Ish has good things going for him. Companies are more socially consious than ever, which means adding minorities to their marketing programs. The guy can put fish in the boat, too.
  13. I only buy the best so I'll have one less thing to blame for my lack of ability! 8-) Im a firm believer in the old adage "you get what you pay for". If I cant afford the best in anything I do, whether it be fishing, trucks, computers, etc. I wont buy anything. Buying one quality product thats lasts ten years is better than buying two or three lower quality products that last three years. Price isnt always directly related to quality, though.
  14. I recently joined the Shimano bandwagon after dropping $200 on a Curado 100D, and I must say its the best of my baitcast reels. I was a big Daiwa fan and while they make excellent products that I will always use, the Curado is the best reel out there under $250. For rods I like St. Croix and G-Loomis. Ive tried to stay in the $150-$200 range for rods but I am considering spending more for even better quality.
  15. Wendys acquired the TDL group and then sold its shares to investors in September. If the name is registered as "Tim Horton's", I wonder how the angler Tim Horton can be sued since his name does not show ownership (no apostrophe - S at the end of his name)? Myabe Tim Horton, the guy who founded Tim Horton's, registered his own name?
  16. Interesting....I never thought of that. We've always called anything in the water that isnt a fish "structure". Its amazing what I learn on BR!
  17. There are two urban lakes by my house that I feel like trying this weekend. I have scouted both, one is an 8-10 acre hole with 3 or four "deep" (maybe 10 feet) pockets and a small floating aluminum dock and the other is a much larger lake with an average depth of 13 feet. It also has large, cylinder shaped concrete pillars (reinforcement for an overpass) at certain portions of the lake. The small lake is clear water and the large lake is a dark stain. Each have concrete banks and no other structure in the water (that I am aware of). Any ideas on how to fish these lakes? I have always fished water with adequate structure so I am a little in the dark.
  18. I have a hard time believing that they have made so much errors. He certainly did make much better decisions than when Clinton was in office. Have you not noticed the Economy recently? All time high? This "all politicians are corrupt" thing doesn't fly with me. If politicians are only concerned about money, then this country wouldn't have lasted for centuries like it has. As for pulling out of the war, yes, now that we have successfully established a country in a place that was once oppressed by the grip of dictatorship, we can begin early plans for leaving the country sometime the end of next year, or even later. Contrary to what the media will have you believe, we are winning the war in Iraq, and the War on Terrorism. No matter what the latte sipping, overpaid brats in Hollywood will have you believe, the true heroes are the United States soldiers. Soldiers who will let you know that we are winning the war we are fighting. President Bush made his decision clear when he said that the U.S. would be invading Iraq and Afghanistan. Unlike a certain President who opted not to go after Saddam when he had the chance (cough * cough Clinton), President Bush stayed the course. Even after being hit with slanderous reports by the mainstream media, and being ridiculed and the such, the President and the U.S. soldiers have not lost their resolve. We should stand behind them and wish them well until the job is done, and they can come home. A few facts: - The president does no control the economy. Consumer spending controls it. - Heroes cure diseases, fight hunger, and seek to end poverty. Heroes do not "fight" with a third world in hopes of creating democracy in a region filled with religious hate. - The current administration is seeking $10 billion for economic reconstruction in Iraq on top of the $40 billion in financial aid that has already been distributed to the country. Meanwhile, 37 million Americans live in poverty. Another interesting fact, poverty levels rose every year from 2000-2004. I could place the blame on our president, but I am not that short sighted. I am not a Democrat, Republican, liberal, nor conservative. The partisian system is a joke - the real issues are ignored and politicians choose to blame the opposing party rather than take action. One fact that is off topic but interesting indeed: When Bush started his first energy business, a man named James Bath invested $50,000 into the compant. Oddly enough, Bath was the US business representitive for Salem bin Laden - Osama bin Laden's brother.
  19. Ben and I are working through his resume to produce an easier to read, more professional looking resume and I think we are going to be putting together a proposal as well. Once it has been finalized I will post it for everyone to use as an example of what a resume and proposal should look like in most cases.
  20. The typical stereotype for the NASCAR fan is a mullet headed, tank top wearing, warm Budweiser drinking redneck with a low tooth count and an even lower IQ. This couldnt be further than the truth. 41% of NASCAR fans have attended college. In addition, the NASCAR fan is 5% more likely to travel, make investments, drink wine, and use cell phones than the average American. The average BASS member is a college educated, in his 50's, and makes roughly $70,000 per year. Fishing and racing can provide great benefits to a variety of companies in various industries. Id like to see some statistics on fan loyalty. For example, a NASCAR fan will almost always choose a product that sponsors racing over a product that does not. I think 70 some odd percent of NASCAR fans are "die hard" loyal to their favorite teams sponsors. I think BASS and FLW need to conduct in depth market research and then distribute the information to anglers for a small fee to offset the cost (market research is not cheap). If I can call the marketing executive at a Fortune 500 company and explain to im/her how marketing with me can drive sales, increase brand loyalty, etc. I am much more likely to get a meeting with the executive to go over a proposal. JT, do you have a marketing proposal that you send to prospects after the initial conversation?
  21. Use larger line, find a spot with no trees, work on technique before working on distance. When the backlashes do occur, be patient when picking the line and dont get frustrated. 30 seconds of slow, controlled picking beats 10 seconds of frantic yanking followed by 10 minutes of repacking.
  22. I second that! The KVD stuff is the ticket! I would also recommed practicing in an area away from trees. I was intimidated by the trees in my backyard when I first started using my baitcaster, but when i got on the water I had no trouble at all.
  23. Black jig, blue pig. Pitch and flip it, fish it slow. Pumpkin/red pepper Senko's, and plastic worms on a jighead work well too. The main things are to fish slow and get in the strike zone every cast.
  24. First off Quantum® did not acquire Browning®. Quantum® became a Browning® licensee to build reels for the company, but no longer do that....jdw174, That is because BPS is now a licensee to sell reels for Browning® (no other company can). No one knows for sure who is building reels for Browning now...Tight Lines!!! Excuse my ignorance...I shouldnt believe the dock talk!
  25. Im a fan of Daiwa's Fuego and Sol models. I use the Fuego for larger baits and the Sol for smaller stuff.
