I picked up a 7'11 MH Shimano Crucial just for the task and It does the Job! They also have a 7'11 Heavy that will cast the heavier ones.

I have a 6ft 8 ML Expride casting rod; For the price, I have to say they are quite amazing rods. Incredibly sensitive and responsive, and the High Power X wrapping really does make for a fast recovery when using jerkbaits and jigs.

Stradic 1000 Ci4+ = $200-230 Major craft Skyroad Mebaru 7ft= 150-170 Getting several Japanese Mebaru an Ajing rods is a going to happen for me this year; The more I look into them the more I am impressed.

I am in need of a Jigging set up, but I prefer a reel a bit faster. Would any of you happen to have a Shimano Zodias? I have an Expride and I love it, however I am curious if the Zodias stands up to others in its price range

Great reels aren't they? I got a steal on mine, cleaned her up and now I can cast a mile! 100HG next on the list. I'd love to snag one, but just a bit out of my price range. Im in the $200-$250 range.

I have a Calcutta 100GT TE that is without a rod currently, and I have a tournament in two weeks. The Gear Ratio is 5.8:1, and I am stumped on what type of rod and technique I should assign it. Any recommendations? I've thought about making it a spinnerbait reel, but I am not sure if 5.8:1 is considered slow rolling or not. Being a shore fisherman as well, making it a deep cranking rod also does not seem to be a swell option. Jig applications are out of the question, as I am picking up a Chronarch XG soon specifically for jigging.

I sold off an old GL2 G Loomis I had coupled with a Calcutta 100GT TE because it just wasnt doing what I wanted it to do. Do you fellows have any recommendations for a 7ft + Medium Heavy cranking rod? I do like Shimano and G loomis, never tried anything else.

Thank you for the input Mike. I'll see what I can do with the old Drive gear. I've gone ahead and replaced the drag washers in all my Calcuttas with Carbontex. Have yet to fish them, but I am excited as to how the reels will perform with them.

Any input on what could have caused this? This one is probably was manufactured early 2000's, however my Calcutta Conquest 50 is definitely older and it doesnt have any corrosion on the drive gear. Saltwater fishing with no cleaning?

About 6 months ago, I lucked out on the purchase of a Calcutta 100GT TE for cheap at a local pawn shop. Covered in dirt and grime, I spent an extensive amount of time cleaning it up and making her look pretty. Took her fishing with no real problems, until I hooked into a few smallies and the drag began to act up on me. When I had enough time, I opened her up and sure enough, the drag washers were toast (practically glued to the Drive Gear) and the Drive gear was corroded to heck. Replacement parts just got in, so here it a comparison. Retrieve wasn't all that bad feeling however. Maybe when I drop this new one in, it will feel even better. Fixing her up tonight, i'll keep you all posted.

I am curious as to what you guys spool your Calcuttas up with. I have a 200GTB I have spooled up with 30lb PowerPro braid, a 100GT TE with some cheap 10lb mono on, and I have a Calcutta Conquest 50 in the shop, but not currently spooled. What do you guys prefer? Do you ever spool Your Calcuttas with Fluorocarbon? I was considering throwing some Sunline Fluoro on the 50 when I she comes back.

I too use the Owner Mosquito Hooks for dropshotting. Personally I go with the smallest size I can get away with for whatever species. I only Dropshot ultralight (4lb fluoro), and I fish even for bass this way. I seldom lose any bass (even the large ones) on the smaller ones.

With school and other things on my plate (and lack of expertise), I've sent this bad boy off to Delware Valley Tackle. I appreciate the recommendations and the messages, from the reviews here I am sure Mike will fix her up good! I'll keep you all posted on the outcome and the eventual set up.

I did precisely that while cleaning, ,which leads me to believe that the AR bearing is bad. I compared it to my Calcutta 100GT TE AR bearing, and actually attempted to put it in, but it is not the same size and will not fit and I do not want to try to smash it in. The BNT 1813 does not appear to be the same one I see in the Conquest 50.
