  1. You too? I thought I was the only one. These days I only use them as jig trailers and have a lot of success, but If I throw them alone its a lost cause.
  2. Weigh and release would be easy. Wouldn't even have to limit it to 5 fish, it could just be total weight of all fish caught. If you didn't want to worry about scales you could do it total length of all fish caught over 10", all you would need is a yardstick in each boat.
  3. Flukes. I know they catch fish, I just never seem to do that well with them.
  4. I throw a buzz bait for those as slow moving steady rain cold fronts push thru in the fall or spring, bass will go crazy for it. I don't have much luck with the same technique when it comes to summer thunderstorms though.
  5. They have a section on this forum called Fishing Flea Market, you could also try craigslist or ebay.
  6. St. Croix Mojo Bass 7'1', MH/Fast. Just bought one a few months back, it seems like a real quality rod. As far as reels, I throw mostly Shimano Chronarch or Curados. I recently bought an an Abu Revo STX, its a good reel, but I still like my Shimanos better.
  7. ^^^ Sucks when someone tries while you're not paying attention and they create a Bald Eagle sized birds nest on the first cast. Last time that happened I just looked back at my buddy, he had this uh oh look on his face, all I could say was "well, that reel is done for the day"
  8. Not for bass but for Trout and redfish. Caught them fishing flooded cow pastures post hurricane.
  9. HA! Feel your pain, was up in Rocky Mtn National park this past summer hiking. That thin air is tough to deal with when you spend most of your life at or below sea level!
  10. I use Exide batteries. They seem to work fine for my needs. As far as a charger, the closest thing I can think of the is "Perko Battery Selector Switch". My brother has one on his boat, he has 2 batteries, 1 for cranking and the other for the trolling motor. When he is running the outboard he can set it to all, so the engine alternator will charge both batteries or just battery 2 to charge his TM battery between fishing spots.
  11. I generally just use my drag setting. I bass fish mostly tidal marshes, I only adjust my drag mid-fight if I hookup with a large redfish.
  12. I love buzzbaits. I usually use the 3 bladed ones, I can retrieve them slower while still keeping them on top.
  13. I throw ribbon tail worms more than anything else. I'm not super particular about brand, although I am little partial to Culprit since its what I had rigged when I caught my PB. Color, almost always Junebug or Watermelon red.
  14. Usually I figure them out about an hour before I have to be back at the launch......that can be annoying.
  15. Storm Radar- Weather forecast and live radar. Free Google Earth- Satellite image. The areas I fish, the maps built into my Lowrance aren't very accurate. Navionics- It's either 9.99 a year or one time purchase. I can't remember. I Know the webapp is free, they may also have a free version for your phone as well. Fishing Knots- Mainly use it to explain a knot to someone. Free
  16. Saltwater barnacles cut my Fluro and mono way quicker than braid. I read a lot about mono being more abrasion resistant, it just hasn't been my experience either.
  17. I second this. Even if you have to wait a little longer and save up a little more money, get the 7". Doesn't sound like much, but it makes a huge difference.
  18. There's a guy by me that fishes the Wed evening tourney who has an Allison. He says it does 95 on a good day. I can't verify his exact speed when he blows past me, but I can tell you...its fast. With that in mind, you can probably achieve your speed goals with a single engine.
  19. I keep enough for a meal every few trips out. Always the smaller fish, if its over 2lb I release it always(unless its hooked bad and won't survive).
  20. I'd say it either wasn't bass, or there was so much real bait in the area that they didn't want what u were throwing. I've had this happen, its a real downer too. You see all these birds and bait, and your heart starts racing but you end up not catching anything.
  21. I generally start faster. Usually I start with a spinner bait or topwater and go on from there. As far as knowing when to switch lures and presentations, I try to check all the conditions, temp, wind, bait activity, water clarity when making those decisions. Sometimes I'll switch to another bait and after like 5 casts it just feels wrong, so I'll put down that rod and try something different. I Can't be more specific because it literally changes from trip to trip, sometimes multiple times during a trip. Sometimes I'll throw a specific half the day at different spots, sometimes I'll pick it up for 5 minutes, then not use it again for the rest of the day.
  22. A long Kayak paddle would probably get you where you needed to go, could be a hassle at times though. Those jon boats can be a pain to paddle if there is some wind. Mounting oars as someone suggested would probably work the best on the jon boat. The best would be a trolling motor though. For fishing solo, I'd recommend the kayack, the handling on the kayack will be so much better than the jon boat when fishing solo. Its easier to control, less effort to move and maneuver, and quieter.
  23. I don't have trouble with other fishermen. Where I fish, the air boat tour guides have the worst etiquette.
  24. I've found that in the shallow marshes, 60 seems to be the temp when I start doing better. In the rivers, they don't seem to be as picky, if I can find water that isn't really muddy.
  25. I use 40lb powerpro braid, I choose 40lb simply because the price difference between 30lb and 40lb was about $5, the difference between 40lb and 50lb was about $13.
