NRX demo
Now a demo or floor model reel is a completely different story IMO. You guys wouldn't by chance have any idea where I might look for one of these demos?

Berkley Lightning Rod Shock ($9)
False!.... In my case it is more like 100% ha ha. I've only broken 1 rod while actually fishing, the rest freak or just plain dumb accidents, 1 is at the bottom of my local lake. Yes I've used the Loomis replacement plan for one and it was fair, but then I was without rod for a week. Agreed on the guest rod, maybe stunt rods at times. Times I use what I call back up rods are kayaking, camping, or a long hike through thick brush where accidents happen. I don't fly with nice rods for many reasons, either just a reel in my carry on.

Walmart Find
I saw the exact same model rod and couldn't for the life of me understand how to adjust it to line up correctly. also saw plenty of broken tips there.

Berkley Lightning Rod Shock ($9)
I've spent the most money on rods, my issue is I break them (my fault). My nieces are also pretty good at it too. Last year I was looking at the rods I have in the garage and what I paid for them and it made me sick. If I go fishing with others who aren't experienced fisherman/women I will rig up these rods and not care if the tips get snapped off. I spend on reels now as the higher end ones I own don't break, or should I say I can't break them. Just my 2 cents.

Berkley Lightning Rod Shock ($9)
That's a pretty good deal, certainly would have bought them both because I did too as well as a 7' casting rod. Haven't used the spinning yet but the casting rod is unbelievable for the price, I mean the full retail price at that. If you are going to get more use the search on the Walmart site and change zips to neighboring Walmarts. I had to drive about 25 miles but I found the two exact rods you listed for $5, my local was selling them for full retail $39. Well worth the drive. @Darren. Sorry man I thought the same until I snooped around a bit. On the bright side you're definitely saving money. With the $1 Gamagatsu hooksRat-L-Traps KVD perfect plastice and the $3 spiderwire braid and Rapalas I ended up spending about a hundred all together. Never knew saving money would get so expensive.

Lews reel history
That explains a lot. Even more so Quantum being involved, they were the first baitcaster I owned and it certainly soured me on them. I then ended up with the Lew's thinking I was getting a different company, but in reality it was just another Quantum.

Lews reel history
I have an old Lew Childre bb25ss. 20+ years old so I can't tell who made it, definitely not shimano or browning. When I hold it in my hands it reminds my why I switched to spinning for a decade or 2. It's probably been used a dozen times and the action feels like pure garbage, heavy as a rock and feels like a soup can in your hand. No disrespect to the man or his son, but it's amazing how far they've come. I checked out several of their new reels when I bought my last baitcaster and they all felt very nice, light and streamlined. Very interesting about all the brands made in the same factory.

Finally tested the Curado 70
I'd try turning up the tension just a hair. My only complaint about the Curado is the tension knob is super sensitive and doesn't click. I can fling a 1/2 oz lure as far as I need to with 2 brakes on and exterior brake at 3. If the tension is too loose it will backlash.

BPS PQ reel CLEARANCE?
That's the same page that came up when the Chronarch went out of stock a week or so ago. I'm guessing they are no longer available online. Might want to call your local BPS and see if they have any in stock.

Which is more important? The rod or reel?
Great responses in here. Only thing I can add is in my 30 years of fishing I've broken many more rods than reels, something to keep in mind. I own Shimano casting and spinning, as well as Pfueger spinning. The only reel I've had go is a Shimano that was literally my first nicer reel probably lasted 25 years of abuse. I've broken poles from Ugly stiks to st. croix and even a BPS, my fault every time but they are much more delicate.

Curado 200i and Carbontex
There's plenty of videos on Youtube with the 200i replacements. I'm into them more for the smoothness not the distance.

Curado 200i and Carbontex
Would it be correct to say one would notice the difference more in the case of replacing felt washers with any sort of carbon, much less super high end? I've seen them for about $30 give or take a few dollars.

Curado 200i and Carbontex
I hear you, I've had mine for a month and love it. I'll probably fish it for a year and then upgrade to the Boca bearings. If you decide to upgrade the drag let us know how you like it. Now you have me thinking about it. lol.

Curado 200i and Carbontex
I picked up a curado little while ago, was considering upgrading to boca bearings. Then I used it and don't really feel the need to change anything. Have you fished it yet? I'd suggest at least getting a decent feel for it before you feel obligate to upgrade. It's a fine reel right out of the box.

I Am Done Buying New Lures!
Lures are meant to catch fisherman more than fish.

Do you have a "Beater Rod"?
I have 2 ugly stick combos (6ft and 6 6) that I bought at Walmart for $20 that are always in the car, and the 6ft comes out on the Kayak sometimes. I picked up a Shakespeare Reverb combo for $5 too that I used to trade in at BPS. It actually felt decent but could tell it would last a season at best so I bought another one for next year. I actually hope some kid asks me about it, I'll just give it to them. More kids should be outside fishing.

BPS graphite series vs Berkley lightning rod?
I have a 5 6 light action graphite series rod on one of my spinning set ups. I can't say enough about the action and they are surprisingly light. The one downside it the line guides are fragile, I've never actually broken one before quite like this in 30 years of fishing. The lining is some kind of ceramic or glass that somehow chipped and was sharp as a razor, that cut me off a few times before I realized what was going on. Never used a lightning rod before but have held one and they are light as can be too. If it were me I'd hold each of them and see what one feels better in your hands, and which one has the particular action you are looking for. BTW the BPS rod for spinning reels could have been designed a bit better as far as comfort in the hand. The screw down ring is right under where your palm goes on, something I didn't notice when I bought it. Consider this when you are checking them out.

Chronarch MGL - Initial Thoughts
I've had a Curado for a few weeks, upgraded from an old Lewis Childre reel. I absolutely love it but the only thing that bothers me is the tension knob. Does the Chronarch have a tension knob that clicks? I've found the brakes to need very little adjustment started with 2 internal brakes but switched to 1 once I became a little more confident with it. The external brake has been set 2-3. The tension knob however I do find myself changing more often (haven't fished in heavy winds yet). I was thinking of picking up another Curado in 6.3 gear ration but your review has me thinking of upgrading. Sadly I would pay a bit extra just for a different knob, the rest of the improvements are just gravy.

Older Stradic ci+ on sale, is last years version worth full price?
Bass fishing is best replied to Bass fishing is best's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI would definitely change that round handle to something more similar to the curado style handle, which the newer version has right? I worried about the same thing but this would be my saltwater reel, I already have plenty of fresh water spinners. You think I could get away with the 30 or 35 for salt? Would be mostly dock/pier fishing a little kayak and beach casting. This would most likely not be going far out in to the sound from the coast. I appreciate all the replies!

Older Stradic ci+ on sale, is last years version worth full price?
I've made up my mind to get a Stradic Ci4+ and was going to pull the trigger until I saw the 4000 series of the older version is on sale for $169, $70 cheaper than the 2016 version. From what I can find the newer version is .9 oz lighter which is nice but no deal breaker as 9oz total is still very light for that size. Also know the newer version has Xship, and the hagane cold stamped gearing that the older version does not but what does this mean to me and will I even notice? I don't necessarily mind spending the full $239 but it would be nice not to. Anyone have both versions and willing to give their input? I'm easily fooled by salesman and fancy descriptions sometimes so I'd really appreciate any input.

Shimano Chronarch CI4+'s $199 At Academy
The messed up thing about this comment is I think I just bought a Stradic, that's a great deal. So I'm guessing Shimano is going to releasing new versions of the Chronarch and the Curado as they are both price reduced in many large retailers.

No leader with braid
Funny that's the only reason I used a leader occasionally. The palomar knot takes up a bit more line so I was trying to conserve braid. Then I realized I was just nickeling and diming myself and probably changing lures a bit too much. I always used an albright knot and never noticed it catching on the line guides, if I tied the leader too long it would sure get caught in the spool though.

Citica I vs Curado I
I'd go with the Curado for the same price as well, for the sole reason it's better in every way. Shimano reps have called the Citica the Curado's little brother. FYI BPS has extended the reel trade in program. You buy online and ship to the store, when you pick it up you get a voucher for $25 dollars if you buy the Curado at $149. Can't use it on the reel but there are some decent deals on lures right now. Otherwise I'd keep an eye out on the auction sites.
