Hey...I'm in North Durham...not far from lake michie .... Meeting up would be great. It's always fun to meet fellow anglers....
  2. When you take the side off you'll see 4 little orange plastic nubs...they're in a square shape.... If they are up then push them all down...that will tighten up the brakes as well...then once you get use to the reel push on brake up....All of my baitcasters I have 2 up and 2 down (every other one)..... Ok, now Im jumping onto this thread b/c I started a similar thread on this issue but with a 6 gill reel.... I don't consider myself a pro (even though they get backlashes too) but I've used baitcasters all the time. I had seen advertisements for 6 gill and thought I would try it out given they were running a promo. I'm having the same issue with the reel backlashing as the lure is half way to the location Im casting to. I've played with the brakes and tried everything I can think of and everything that was mentioned here....the only thing I haven't done was to take the reel totally apart and clean it. I've taken the side plate off and pulled the spool out....cleaned all those parts and oiled them back up...I did that before I even put line on the reel. I have a variety of baitcasters like abu, bps (bionic) and lews......NONE of those reels do I have an issue with...I even have a cheap abu silver max that works pretty good for the money. I'm starting to chalk this up to a cheap POS reel....I plan on having a buddy try it who definitely has more experience than me. If you want to see the other thread I had on this product you can find it https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/189893-6-gill-casting-reels/#comment-2144323
  3. I fished SML with a buddy in a tournament a couple of years ago...as others have said that lake is huge so a particular area Im no help on...plus we were in his boat and I wasn't really paying much attention.....anyway it was about this time of the year when we fished it and we had cold mornings (30's) and it warmed up to 70's.... fished it for two days and all fish came off of shaky head under docks. Good luck
  4. Yep...those are the specs...I normally dont have issues with that...I was just tossing a weightless dbomb....I'll put a weight on it and try again tonight.
  5. Thanks... It may be me, but I have no issues with my other reels. I'll take a look and see what info I can find.
  6. It's on a 7'6 #8 *** MH.....reel is spooled with 15lb Pline tactical fluro. It is a dual braking system....I played with both brakes and in order to get it to not backlash I have to put 3 out of the 4 internal brakes in the "in position" and the other brake is cranked down to a slow fall on my lure.....I planned on using this reel for pitching and flipping..... I've sent the company an email asking them about best practices. I'll see if I hear anything back.
  7. I tried searching the forum and not one thread came up about "***"...I'm sure many of you may have seen them advertise on facebook... At any rate they were running a promo so I figured I would try them out....50%off so I picked up a crius reel for $65... Here's my question/comment.... My other casting reels consist of abu, a couple from BPS (bionic) and a couple of lews tournament mb... With all those reels I've never had big backlash issues.... Now in all fairness I've only used the *** twice and both times it was just running over to a pond for about 30 minutes....I cant seem to get this thing dialed in... Does anyone have experience with these reels? I think I may have just thrown 65 bucks away but hey its not the end of the world. BTW the reel looks very nice...I have it on a #8 7'6 blackout
  8. Thanks for the info...this is very helpful
  9. I found a couple within my price range....looking at NADA price guide it seems misleading since you can't really account for addons. Here are the two options I've found. 1. https://eastnc.craigslist.org/boa/6043288312.html 2. https://greensboro.craigslist.org/boa/6043882524.html 3. https://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/boa/6093176518.html Thanks for the help...the one I like the most is option 3 but I just dont think its worth the price. Even though he just probably dropped over 3k in new electronics and trolling motor..... what would you guys pay for each of these boats?
  10. Hi All.....I currently have a small 14ft bassboat....it gets the job done when its just me....however as I get more into tournament fishing I want to be able to be a "boater" vs. "non-boater"..... at any rate I was trying to keep my upgrade to under 10k....Looking on craigslist I dont see much or the ones I do see no one gets back to me. I'm looking for something around 18-19 feet with a swing arm tongue since I need to store this in my garage. Anyone have suggestions on where is the best place to look and is my budget unrealistic? Any boats that are just awful and I should stay away from?
  11. I just placed an order today with them. This is my first order. They state 9-11 days for delivery....I sure hope it doesn't take 3 weeks. I'll be happy to post back in here once I receive my order.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.....I fished as a kid in upstate NY...I got back into fishing a little over a year ago. Learning a lot...Now I'm a member of a local bass club....enjoying the tournaments and learning from the more seasoned guys in the club...
