Getting new rod/reel for the old man
Thank you very much for the advice! He won’t be throwing 1 1/2oz lure but he will be trolling with it though. I just want to make sure it can handle that lure. Other then that, it will be 90% of the time smaller rapala’s, senko’s, twister tails, spoons and spinner baits and top water frogs. Im leaning towards the Daiwa tatula sv tws, or the type r. I’m really curious on the *** and *** reels though. As for rods dobyns are hard to find my neck of the woods (southern Ontario) but have been keeping a good eye on them. St. Croix avid x 7’ medium-heavy fast is on sale right now for a good price and is why I’m considering that. I’m also interested in loomis, muse/envy series of rods, dobyns champion xp

What would you recommend trolling with then? Moderate?

Getting new rod/reel for the old man
So my old man loves to fish. Knows nothing about it but loves to do it. Growing up he was big into hunting but the older he’s getting the more he prefers fishing. His birthday is coming up next month and I’d love to get him a new baitcaster set up but unfortunately I don’t know what to get. What he he wants to use it for is reefing bass and pike out of thicker cover. He has an old crappy baitcaster that he uses now and 2 spinning rods. This rod he will want to use for casting into weeds, trolling close to weeds for pike (with his mike the pike lure 1 1/2oz), and going probably some top water and senko’s in weeds and around docks for bass. I needs to keep it to probably 7’4” and smaller as he can’t fit much more on his boat. I’m thinking about a 7’-7’4” medium-heavy, fast action rod. Something maybe like the Shimano zodius, *** envy or muse, st. Croix avid X, Shimano crucial or whatever you might recommended! As for reels i can probably figure it out, but debating between a Shimano Curado, *** *** or c, Daiwa tatula sv type r or sv tws.

Daiwa steez SV vs zillion sv tws
Have you played with a few zillions or just yours. Cause the one I got to handle in the store felt incredible

Daiwa steez SV vs zillion sv tws
I live in Canada so it's probably a lot more expensive then what you're paying anyways lol. But the zillion sv tws is 399.99 and the steez sv is 419.99 so it's 20 dollars more I just double checked (regular 569.99). So it's a great price but doesn't have the t-wing system and was wondering how much of a difference that made? I'm inclined to purchase the steez as it's a great deal here but technically the zillion I'm looking at has more of the modern technology right? Which is better?

Daiwa steez SV vs zillion sv tws
What's the difference between these two reels other then price? Was looking at purchasing my first baitcaster and was originally going be the tatula sv tws reel but it's taken forever to come in so decided to step up to zillion sv tws but found the steez sv for 15 dollars more. What is the difference?

Need a baitcaster!
Sounds like a hell of a trip!! Ive been told to stick with shimano or Daiwa reels! I'm not partial to either its just where I purchased my rods and reels they carried way more shimano then daiwa. Ill look into those daiwa reels tomorrow! As for rods are any of the st. croix casting rods good? I know a local store has some of the legend tournament bass rods on sale. What would you recommend when I go in for a rod. MH, H, M? Fast, x-fast, mod? I'll also take a good look for those dobyn rods? Why dobyns over say st. croix or loomis? Matt I appreciate the great advice! Ill look for something around 7' med-MH. I'll ask the local shop as well and see what rods they recommend! As for reels ill take a look at the daiwa' you guys recommended!

Need a baitcaster!
Thank you very much! I'm excited to have joined this forum! I love the st. croix but that loomis is just something else! It's incredible and look forward to trying a few more from each company! Both reels are shimano CI4+ and nisca. as for the rod and reel I was trying, was an older shimano crucial, and shimano c... forget the name, both with shimano reels. They were my bosses rods. As far as I know they were medium and a medium heavy. I was throwing senko's, spinners, twister tails as that's what was on the rods. As for budget i really don't care. Living in Canada, rods and reels are a little more expensive. I'm the kind of person that prefers to do it once and do it right. I'm not interested in spending a 700-800 on a reel or a rod but together is a different story! I use a lot of twister tails, just started throwing senko's as of this past weekend! Spinners, meps, top water frogs/jitterbugs, small/mid size rapala's. Matt

Need a baitcaster!
Picked up a couple new spinning rods and looking to get my first bait caster. Got to play with one most of last week and really enjoyed it. I am no expert fisherman, but have been told baitcaster are strong reels, more accurate, faster, and all around more enjoyable once you get use to it. Fish a lot of bass, walleye and smaller pike. Mostly bass and 1-3lbs walleye. No idea on rods or reels. Love my st. croix and g. Loomis spinning rods though. Any suggestions would be great! Don't mind spending some money

Want to make sure I got the right rods
Well got to test my rods out this weekend and play with a baitcaster most of last week (while at work lol). I have never fished using senko's either but after some good reading on here I got myself some before my weekend away at the cottage. both rods preformed flawlessly and woe what a difference when you step up in price compared to what I use to use! Got on some decent small and large mouth bass, from 1.75-2lbs range up to 4.75-5.5lbs range! Most being 2-3lbs which was great! They couldn't resist the senko's and both rods were amazing! Time to get me a baitcaster

Want to make sure I got the right rods
Awesome thanks guys! Only thing I changed due to balance was the nasci is now on the st. croix and the CI4+ is now on the g.loomis. Threw some 15lbs braid on the st. croix with an 8lbs Fluoro leader today. And just fluoro on the loomis as I ran out of braid. Will change it over too next will definitely be a bait caster, trying one out next weekend

Want to make sure I got the right rods
Just picked up a couple new set ups. I've always had medicore/beginner spinning rods and reels and finally dropped some money on rods and reels. I am not a great fisherman, but love to do it. And newer to the terminology as I've always just fished. First is a G.Loomis 6'6" e6x "walleye" medium fast action rod. With a shimano nasci 2500 which will be used as my walleye rod using mainly twister tails, small rapala's, meps, spinners and sometimes minnows, with trolling sometimes. 95% are between 1-2lbs with the occasional pike. Second is a St. Croix 7' Avid X medium fast action rod with a shimano stradic CI4+ 2500. This rod will be used mainly for bass. Mostly twister tails, spinners, little top water (hula poppers, jitterbugs), worm. Like i I said I am newer to fishing and first time buying good rods, and reels. Want to make sure it sounds about right. Was going go medium heavy for the bass rod but the guys I was talking to said it sounded like I should just go medium here too! both spinning rods!! Went with a medium on the bass rod cause was told st. croix are a little heavier so medium will act almost as a medium heavy with great sensitivity
