  1. New to hunting (yet to get a gun yet), but intrigued by squirrel hunting. I've had it at game dinners, and it's just fine for me. More about honing my skills and hitting something small at first. Excited to get out this year.
  2. Skirts, huh? How would I attach the skirt to the frog? I've never met a frog with no back legs and a skirt, but if they bite it, I'll do it....
  3. Nice to see some local chaps here. I'm a very mediocre fisherman, but hope to get better at my bass game by learning from all of you masters.
  4. Yea, this canoe weighed 90lbs by itself when I got it. I lifted it three times including the time that I bought it, and that was enough. Plus with the seats I added, there was no way it was going to sit on the van. I actually did transport it once with the seats and the wife had a fit as they were "scratching" the top of the van. So now it sits pretty on the trailer. I'll probably never float it off, but makes getting it to the pond/river easier, and with two guys, shouldn't be that bad carrying it down the ramp. Ran the wires for the trailer lights last night in the rain. Trailer wire kit for the van came in today, so I'll install that tonight.
  5. How she is sitting today! Just finished fishing(pun intended) the wires through the tubes to get it wired up. Van kit coming tomorrow! Hopefully back in the water on Sunday!
  6. I have a great hollow frog, but never have much luck with it. Waiting to hit up some night fishing soon with the canoe and see if I can snag a few night monsters. I suck at remembering what brands I buy, so I can't say, but he's a good size frog. Guess that's why I haven't had much luck yet....lol. EDIT: This guy Lunkerhut Lunker Green Tea Frog My "go-to" is a silver and black 4inch Husky Jerk Rapala. I never get skunked using that lure, even if it's one fish the whole day, I will always get something on it. ( I know, not top water...lol) I do love my jitterbugs though. Use those right at dusk in the coves near my house, loud as heck, but attract some nice fish!
  7. I am a fishing guy first, and a boating guy second. Getting tired of having to "wait my turn" to go out fishing with my buddy in his boat, I decided to venture out and get a canoe for myself. It's been a long time since I've been in a canoe, but it's like riding a bike. Here I will chronicle my journey transforming a 15yo canoe into a fishing vessel. How she looked the day I got her home First day out with the kids. 2 out 3 liked it enough to want to go back out. Good for me since it was a bit cramped. I scored a 16 ft trailer on CL for $100 a few weeks later. Hit it up with some zinc based paint to cover the rusty spots after a good wheel brushing. Recently added some cheapie fenders on it as well. Just waiting for the van wire harness to come in so I can get this thing back to the water.
  8. Hey folks, stumbled upon this site while looking for canoe modification ideas. I just recently bought a Pelican canoe from Craigslist and have been spending the past couple weeks gearing it up for a fishing style canoe. I can't post pictures at work, so when I get home, I will create a thread showing my progress. It's my first canoe in my 41 years of living, so don't hate on a newb....lol. I've been fishing probably since I was 8-9 years old as I was in cub scouts, and my father and our neighbor used to take me out on our neighbor's boat. I was away from it a long time, but now with kids of my own, I have really gotten back into it. That, and my friend bought a boat...lol. So now that I have one of my own, I try and get out as much as possible. Of course, working on a trailer and modding the canoe have taken up longer time and money than anticipated, at least I will be good to go for the next few seasons. I am at work now, but I will post my photos in the canoe thread later on. Excited to learn from all of you, and perhaps teach a lesson or two of my own.
