First jig catch
I caught my first jig fish last year and now its probably my favorite way to fish and a confidence bait. Nothing better then that few second time span between the tick and the set and the bow of the rod to that moving, living weight.

skipping a shaky head. Why can't I do it?
You can skip it under docks and other overhangs so that you aren't restricted to the edges of that cover

Bow mount trolling motor mount for multi-tiered front deck?
Thanks @Scott F- glad I asked.

Bow mount trolling motor mount for multi-tiered front deck?
I'm looking at the Minn Kota PowerDrive bow mount trolling motor and using this quick mount to mount it: https://minnkotamotors.johnsonoutdoors.com/accessories/trolling-motor/quick-release-bracket-mka-16-03 If I bring that quick mount, along with the boat, to the fabricator, would that be enough for them to be able to plan out the dimensions of the mount I'd be asking them to create? Or would it be safer to actually have the whole motor? For convenience (and money's) sake, it would be best if I could just bring in that quick mount and have them design the mount off of that. Thank you all for your help once again.

Finally! First bass of the year
25, d**n, that is crazy. I've never come close to those numbers here in the PNW. Thatd be so fun, congrats.

Bow mount trolling motor mount for multi-tiered front deck?
Thanks for the suggestions all. I like @ScottF suggestion of bringing it to a fabricator to have a heavier duty mount welded. For the sake of simplicity and not giving my newb self the chance to mess things up by trying to create a deck, that idea really appeals to me. I'll bring the boat in to a local welding shop and have them take a look at the boat and at this pic.4 Question about the dimensions: Are all trolling motor mounts essentially the same size? I want to avoid a siutation where I'm limited to what trollign motors I can mount due to the mount being too small. What would be a good all around size for a fabricated mount like that?

Jon boat chairs interchangeable?
I have a brown question regarding mounted jon boat chairs. I'm interested in installing a swivel seat in the casting deck of my lowe 1648 aura m. I'm not sure whether I'd want a sit in swivel chair or more of a taller pedestal seat that you can lean back into. My question is, are those types of seats interchangeable? Once I install the mount will I be able to switch out the chairs depending on what I want that day? These are the types of seats I'm talking about.

Bow mount trolling motor mount for multi-tiered front deck?
Hi all- hoping for some advice on the best way to mount a bow mount trolling motor on the terraced front deck of my jon boat. What would be the most basic, safe way to do this? I'm not experienced in much DYI so please dumb it down for me. Something like this seems doable to me but are there better alternatives? Thanks for any insight.

Where do bass go after a cold spring day?
Cast them and reel them I'm about 6inxhes to a foot under the surface. It feels like you're kind of over complicating things and just need to go fish

New jon boat-questions?
Hey all, I'll be picking up a 1648 Aura M this weekend and had a few questions as I excitedly look at how to set it up. What is the most simple way to mount a bow mount trolling motor on this type of bow? See picture. What are some items that NEED to go in the boat? Fire extignuisher, life jackets, anchors (two anchors?) Anyone have a preferred anchor type/weight for this type of boat? Mostly smaller lakes, up to 600 acres. Is there any "new boat checklist" that you run through when first bringing a boat home. I'm a total newbie to all this so any info is appreciated.

Thoughts on this boat? First boat 14 foot aluma craft jon
Thank you all for your help, very insightful. "What type of water will you be boating in?" Small-medium size residential lakes that are pretty common here in PNW. 100-600 acres usually. Not planning on big water or rivers. It's never gotten crazy windy to the point that I felt in danger in my SOT Kayak- maybe once. I don't think wind/waves would be a reason to go bigger. "How good are the ramps you can use? Sometimes a body of water has a really spiffy ramp you can launch a mega sized bass boat and sometimes you will find an unimproved ramp you need a smaller boat and trailer to launch." Launches are mostly in good shape. I can't think of one that would cause significant problems. One might be too small for the 16', but I can alway spull out the kayak for tha tone. "What is your tow vehicle and how much can it handle?" Model: 2006 Ford Ranger MPG: 21 city / 26 highway Horsepower: 143 hp @ 5,250 rpm Towing capacity: 2,460 lbs Engine: 2.3 L 4-cylinder Thank you again for all responses. As I think this through, I think I'm leaning toward something smaller like the 14; alumacraft for the type of fishing that we do. Thank you all for your insight. Another newb question- how do hitches work? Is there like a universal hitch that will work with all trailers? Or do I need to know the model of trailer before I get a hitch installed on my truck? Thanks again.

Thoughts on this boat? First boat 14 foot aluma craft jon
https://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/boa/d/14-ft-2007-crapple-jon/6528392452.html Hi all. Will be checking out this boat in the next few days. Is this a good deal? What types of things should I make sure to check when inspecting? I'm a total boat newb and wanting to make sure I don't miss anything vital. Any advice is helpful; even the most basic advice will probably not be above my head. Thanks. I'm not sure whether to go with something used like that or go with a basic newer package like a tracker grizzly 16' jon. That would be more pricey but I do like the idea of a bigger more stable, standeable boat that would be nore roomy for multiple people. not having to worry about the potential headaches that a used purchase can bring is appealing too. Any advice regarding new vs used? The price of the boat listed above isn't that amazing to make it an easy choice over new. Thanks all.

Fished my favorite little stretch of river today and had a nice day. Light rain showers scared most people off so I mostly had the stretch to myself. Turned out to be sunny out and combined with the solitude it was beautiful. But, the bite was slow. The first fish was this one on a keitech paddletail, it was probably around 3 lbs? I had to look it up and I think it's a mountain whitefish (I'm fishing an offshoot of the Columbia river). The bass bite was slow. Showers stopped, wind slowed and the sun came out and I was able to start getting bit on a grub on a jighead. Caught a few small smallmouth and decided to drag a jig and trailer. I'm reluctant to do that at this spot because it's easy to get hung up on the rocks (any tips for jig fishing the size/shape of rocks in the pics? Football head doesn't seem to help). I only got maybe two bites, but one of them was this nice smallmouth. Not sure the weight, but I think it was the biggest I'd caught. May be 2.5? MAking a hard hookset into a jig bite is so satisfying. Looking for that feeling again is addicting. Was awesome being able to see the fish come up in the clear water and having the place to myself.

My first bass boat, budget $5000, criteria within
Hello all, I know there are plenty of threads like this but I'm starting the search for my first bass boat and hoping you can advise me on what models of used boat I should be on the lookout for on CL based on my criteria below. I'm hoping to have a boat by next Spring. I'll be fishing mostly small lakes, up to 600 acres in size, with possibly the occasional foray into bigger water. I am a boat newb, my general sense from my research on here is that I'll be looking at a used aluminum in the 16-18 foot range, like a used Tracker. I'm unfamiliar with specific models and brands and hoping you all can help. Requirements/Must haves: Budget ~$5000 Low maintenance Infrequent repairs Difficult to have in disrepair; I don't really know what to check for when looking at used boats so I would hope for something that would be hard for previous owners to mess up Be able to store outside with no worries Easy to load, tow, maintain for a boat newbie such as myself Bass boat style, not deep v Fit two people and have them be able to fish/cast comfortably without obstructing each other Be able to stand and cast comfortably without losing balance Casting deck Foot controlled trolling motor in front Small outboard Bonuses: Decent storage for a cooler three rods per person Live well Dedicated storage compartments Electronics/fish finders or easy to add them Any recommendations on what used models I should be keeping an eye out for on CL? Of Tracker or other brands? Any other CL search terms that may turn up some hidden gems? Thank you all. Just doing some preliminary searching, I'm thinking along something like these lines. https://portland.craigslist.org/nco/boa/d/16-lowe-aluminum-skiff/6313015103.html https://wenatchee.craigslist.org/boa/d/2001-bass-tracker-pro-crappie/6284555212.html

Most consecutive days?
only 4 days in a row for me. Fishing out of a kayak I definitely feel it, physically, but only afterwards. I can do like 10-12 straight hours and while I'm in the kayak on the water the fatigue doesn't get me, only after getting home or loading it up.

Who mainly uses the same lures every time they fish? - I'm down to the same 4 lures
Can you explain a situation that helped you realize the importance of depth/speed control?

The Quest Continues ~

The Quest Continues ~
I'm looking forward to fishing Fall hard for the first time and I'd like to ask you, what specifically are you watching for in the weather? Where I live here we are getting a few days of consecutive rain for really the first time all summer, clearing up around the weekend when it will be sunny and around 70 degrees. What does this mean for the Fall bite exactly? I'm looking forward to getting out this weekend. Thanks again.
