  1. Favorite Rods has the White Bird rod and reel. 49.99 for the rod and 39.99 for the reel, with their BF deal I bought my rod and reel combo for 68 bucks.
  2. I have tried the Missile Craw and D Bomb both of which I really like. Especially the Missile Craw. What hook do you use when whacky rigging the 48?
  3. You are very right here. Patience is high on the list of what I need to improve on. I also kayak bass fish so I think I get in a hurry because I'm afraid of not being able to cover all the water I want to. Thanks for the post, being a guy who makes lists and goals I will be focusing highly on slowing down and patience. Thanks for the advice. I'm glad I posted this topic. Love the post RW! I've already read through this thread multiple times. Luckily I have been able to catch fish pretty efficiently and this post helped me get to that point!
  4. The book I am reading by Tony Bean echos this. Looks like I’m going to be perfecting the jig and Texas Rig this coming season!
  5. Very good advice and a good reminder to slow down. It is definitely easy to get ahead of yourself with different techniques. The jig and frog are two techniques I want to learn. Especially the jig, I have the Bitsy Flip Jig and BBB Chunk in my cart on TW. I completely agree with the statement that learning to use a bottom contact bait will help me.
  6. As a relatively new angler who is day dreaming of fishing here in Central WI, I found myself wondering what people feel is the one technique is a must to have mastered. I know everyone will have their own opinion, but I'd love to hear what people have for a go-to technique. I basically started taking bass fishing seriously this past spring so I am currently reading and trying to learn what I can so I appreciate the input. The techniques I am most comfortable with are; Ned Rig, Poppers, whacky worm, and grubs on a darter head or round jig head. At the end of the season I began experimenting with texas rigging creature baits and swim baits such as the Fat Impact and Rhythm Wave. Thanks in advance for any input!
  7. Tennessee is a place I’d love to come fish someday. ??
  8. Thanks for the info. I'm going to invest in the smaller versions of both the Fat Impact and Rhythm Waves this summer and see which one I prefer. Now if I can only fast forward to spring in WI! I almost think a trip south is in store for me this winter.
  9. The Grubster and Rhythm Wave baits are much more friendly on the wallet compared to Keitech. The only Z Man product I have ever used is the TRDs. I'll keep these in mind. What type of jig do you use with these?
  10. Awesome! I recently watch a YouTube video of a guy stream fishing for SMB and it absolutely captured my interest and imagination. I have used the Fat Swing Impacts in the 3.8 size with success on both lakes and rivers. I will add the 3.3 size Fat Impacts to that list of baits I plan on bringing along. Do you typically use a ball head jig and any color preferences for mainly clear with a tan hue streams?
  11. Hey ppl pretty new to bass fishing and am planning a few trips to wadeable streams and rivers next summer (ice soon in WI) I’ve been reading about smallmouth loving these small SwimBaits such as the Jackall Rhythm Wave 2.8 and the Lunker City Grubster 2.75. Anyone with experience using small SwimBaits like this for smallmouth and whether they’d be productive in small streams/rivers?
  12. I wish the Holschlag and in-fisherman books were available on the Kindle.
  13. You're gonna stand there, ownin' a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistlin' bungholes, no spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser? - Joe Dirt I always think of this quote when a buddy looks at my light tackle box and starts rattlin' off every bait he thinks I should have.
  14. I've been using Berkley Fusions for all types of EWG hooks. Mostly because I found them at Dick's Sporting Goods for 2.97 in non weighted sizes and 4.30 in weighted. I couldn't resist and grabbed a bunch of each. I haven't had any problems losing fish other than my own dumb errors.
  15. I'm not very experienced, but I've had luck on rivers with Whopper Ploppers, Keitech Fat Impact 3.8 with a 3/0 EWG 1/8 oz, and Kailin's Grubs on a Darter head. My buddies do well on black and blue jigs with trailers and the Ned Rig. I haven't reached that slower method of fishing yet.
  16. What type of water? What species large or smallmouth?
  17. Late to the post here, but I found this topic to be interesting being a new angler. Starting this spring by impulsively buying a Feel Free kayak I am now hooked. At first I started buying every bait I saw in a video or trying a new technique I'd see on one of the YouTube channels I like to watch. Soon I found when it comes to fishing I fall in the minimalist group. I use three rods. Two spinning and one bait casting. I carry a small variety of lures all which I feel can match up to the body of water I'm on and the conditions I'm faced with. I literally started this spring and self taught myself through this website and YouTube. Fished two days a week and never got skunked. I like what one person posted. KISS. That is what works for me and what I'm trying to accomplish. (I should add I keep an open mind when it comes to fishing and am always willing to give something new a try)
  18. I don't want to highjack the thread, but I also don't want to create a new post on something so similar. I promised my son one last fishing trip. We are in WI and plan to float a section I have success on in the past. Problem is we can't get out till the 28th of October. We typically throw topwater, jigs, chatterbaits, and darter heads with grubs/swim baits. Can I stick to this process at this time of year? (Water was 54 degrees on a section I was on today and couldn't buy a bite)
  19. I have limited experience with the drop shot technique, but when I have used it I have had good luck in deeper water. In deeper water I like to throw a bigger than usual drop shot worm. Best luck with a 6" Contour worm from NetBait.
  20. I ordered a 7'0 Med Heavy Daiwa with a Abu Garcia Black Max. This will be my first bait cast set up. Then my 10 year old son and I decided to go check out Walmart. Ended up leaving with a 7'0 Lighting Shock Med Heavy and a cheap bait caster. I figure I can give it a try and my son loves throwing a frog so it was a win win for the both of us. ??? ps. That rod was 39 bucks at Wally World!
  21. Hilarious. Trust me I am fully aware this day will come! ?
  22. I actually purchased a medium shock spinning set up from WalMart for my finesse fishing. I really like the rod, I can't complain at all. I can't imagine spending tons of money on these things.
  23. Thanks. Most lakes I fish don't have that thick of cover so I'll roll with the Med Heavy. Thanks again for showing me this rod. Exactly what I was looking for.
  24. Thanks for this! I love my Daiwa reels. I'll be giving this rod a shot. Should I go heavy or med heavy?
  25. Hello new to the forums here and generally new to bass fishing. I am looking to purchase a flipping/pitching rod, but I want to do so on a budget. I'd like to spend around 50 bucks if possible. The two rods I've found so far are the Berkley Lighting Casting Rod or the Shimano Sellus Casting Rod. Any advice or insight will be greatly appreciated.
