For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Anybody have advice on installing a new fishfinder?? I just bought the Garmin Echomap Plus 93sv along with the Garmin Ultra High Def sonar with transducer. This will be my first fishfinder to install. Do most of you have your transducers installed on the transom or on the trolling motor?? I think since I fish shallow a lot I want the transducer on the transom in order to save the transducer from getting beat up. But FYI, my boat is a 98/99 Nitro Savage 884, 18ft with a Merc 150. I have three batteries hooked up now on this. I have two OLD, VERY OLD Eagle finders on there now, but one doesn't work and the other one works "okay-ish". Anybody want to make a few bucks, or a case of beer/liquor, and come help??? Could make it a nice weekend day of hanging out and talking fish and everything else. My buddy who lives right behind me would help out as well and can talk up a storm on anything, lol!! Had to ask, LOL....

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Dang, good job Bluebasser86!! We went to La Cygne on Sunday for LM bass and me and my buddy got skunked, not even 1 bite in 5 hours!!!! Tried just about every type of bait we had, nothing. Should of tried the outlet, but didn't as there were about 5-6 boats hanging out by there. I gotta try on more time before I call it quits for winter as I refuse to end the season getting skunked!!!

Going to La Cygne this Sunday. Are they discharging the water from the plant?? I thought I heard somewhere not long ago that the plant was shutdown for repairs/maintenance and therefore no water was being discharged from the plant. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Looking for fishing friends and help around OP
Welcome. Well OP won't have much in the way of fishing in my opinion, but I could be wrong. If keeping it local, I'd try Olathe Lake, Gardner Lake, Lake Jacomo, Longview Lake, Smithville Lake. I know there are a couple of lakes up in Wyandotte County as well you should try.

Lol, no problem. I really liked that lake. It's got some good structures in the 2 large coves on the south side of the lake. The 2 or 3 larger bass we caught were by the docks using flicker shad and squarebill cranks. We are for sure going back there again hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Good luck if you go there!!!

Garmin support fail
I don't own a Garmin yet, but I am in the market and will be pulling the trigger soon. I have spoken to customer support service with Hummingbird, Lowrance, and Garmin. Out of the 3, Garmin support seemed to care about me the most. They actually took their time explaining all of the features of their products, what I need and DON'T need, what works with my boat/setup now, and what to consider down the road. I have decided to go with Garmin once I get some funds free'd up and along with xmas right around the corner. Sorry to hear about your experience with Garmin....

Went to Lone Star Lake last Sunday. It was a new lake for us, so we don't know where all of the "hot spots" are. Fished there for about 5.5 hours and we caught about 20 bass. Only two were keepers, but they were about 2.5-3.5 lbs. All the rest were about a foot long. Square bill crank baits worked the best for us, but we also caught a few on some Mepps black fury and on some jigs. Will surely go back there before I'm done for the season.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I'll finally be back fishing the weekend, thank goodness! Man, it's been 3 weeks since I've fished, and it feels like I missed a whole year!! Saturday I'll take my young kiddo's out to either Gardner Lake or Olathe Lake as I know there is a good chance they can even catch a bass by accident right now, lol!!! Sunday I will be going with friends to Lone Star Lake - Douglas County, to give that a try. Was at Mondo Tackle last week and the guy there said I NEED to get out there now as the bass are biting out there. I'll let everyone know how it goes this weekend.

They also have some rods/reels there on consignment. But all around those guys there were really nice to me and took their time explaining some things to me that I had questions about.

Has anybody tried Lone Star/Douglas County Lake recently?? I was over at Mondo Tackle the other day and a couple guys there were talking about how I should try that lake. Any input would be awesome....

Going to Lake of the Ozarks to fish this weekend. Need some advice
Went down and had some fun. 3 of us went to fish, and it was okay. Need to learn more about this lake when it comes to fishing around docks and whatnot. I Have to learn how to fish jigs and worms as I am horrible at it for now.

Going to Lake of the Ozarks to fish this weekend. Need some advice
Hey guys, first time taking my boat down to LOTO to do some largemouth bass fishing. We are at the the 2 mile marker of the Big Naingua. Anybody have advice on where to go in that general area?? I have heard that flipping near docks and at the back of the coves are good areas to try this time of year. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Very nice bluebasser86!!!! Went to Gardner Lake on Saturday for about 2.5 hours and we caught about 10-12 bass. Maybe 1 or 2 keepers, but the rest were small. The hyrdila was really bad, probably from all of the rain a couple of weeks ago. We were snagging the hydrila down to about 8-10 feet, so it fishing painful as it seemed like every other cast we were catching that crap. Buddy and I mostly used crankbaits. I tried using worms and a jig, but caught nothing using them.

Need some advice. I am going to Hillsdale tomorrow to fish and I haven't had a lot of luck there. Where are some of the areas of the lake that you guys have success in at Hillsdale??

I wonder with all of the rain we have had the last few days how the bass will react to it. Good, bad, indifferent??

I haven't had any problems yet. Most who were out on their decks or on the docks were very nice to speak with and polite. I always stay about 10-15 yards away from docks just to avoid the d-bags that get mad if you were right next to their docks. Ran into another guy yesterday at the gas station and we started to talk. He also said that Gardner lake is a great lake to catch LM bass, but agreed that most of what you catch are not keepers.

Went to Gardner Lake in Olathe on August 18. Fished from about 2-6pm and we caught probably 15 LM bass between the two of us. Mostly used crankbaits with mixed use of flicker shad, KVD square bills, and others. Caught this 4lb on the flicker shad next to a dock at around 10 feet in depth. Starting to really like this lake just for the fact that fish are there and biting, though most of the fish we catch are not keepers. photo0

Went to Gardner lake yesterday for the first time. Fished there for 4.5 hours and my buddy and I caught around 17 lm bass. Nothing really big, maybe one was about 17 inches long, the rest were about 10-12 inches at best. I was trying out my new gear as I finally made the jump to baitcast reels so I was soley there to learn. Did not get the 'birds nest" at all, but I was close a couple of times, LOL!! I was only using square bill cranks using I think a DT4 or DT6 because I thought that would be the easiest to learn on a baitcast reel. Overall we had a blast and though I have heard there are not many big ones in that lake, it was sure fun as hell to catch that many in a short amount of time. Personally I caught 10 and that was the most I have caught in one day in over a year.

Went to Hillsdale the other weekend and fished the first part of the day. Bites were weak, caught some baby bass, a crappie, and maybe a panfish I think. Biggest bass was caught in about 5 feet of water using a 10 inch Rage Tail worm in green/red pumpkin. About 2.5lb and about 18inches. I suck at eoem fishing, so I was doing only work to better my skill. Was really happy to catch my PB in a worm.

So I did it: I forgot to put the drain plug in.
Yup, just did that last Friday and was close to losing it. 3rd time out on the new boat, took my 6 year old boy with me. Just started to fish when my son asked my there is water in the boat. I casually said "son, it's a bass boat, it's going to have some water in it". 5 minutes later, he said again, but this time with urgency and a crack in his voice. I looked around and saw water was coming in under the seats and was about 10 inches high on my drivers chair. I freaked the F*** out and ran to the back. The back of my Nitro was almost submerged, and the bilge pump was not working. So thank god the engine fired up and I started to go. I tried to floor it, but the nose shot straight up in the air and could only go about 5-10 mph. I was thinking "crap, I sunk my boat with my boy in it, my wife is going to kill me!!". So then I had my son sit down at the very front of the boat, and with one hand I was steering the boat while the rest of my body I was standing as far front of the boat as I can muster while still holding on to the steering wheel. About 5 minutes goes by and I start to feel, and hear, the engine RPM's getting higher and I could feel the boat start moving faster. Took about another 2 minutes and I was able to get the boat on plane and moving!! But then I started to think about how the hell I was going to try and put in the drain plug. I tried swimming underneath, but after a minute of not finding it I came up for a breath and my boy was crying and shaking. He thought I drowned, which destroyed me "inside" seeing my boy that way. So I then remembered that this lake has a swimming beach, so I drove my boat to the beach and I beached it. Found the drain plug, put it, and we were off after that. Needless to say my boy ratted me out to mom as soon as we got home, so that was an interesting conversation she had with me. Now I gotta figure out my d**n bilge pump issue. But d**n, that was some scary **** considering this was my first boat and out for only the 3rd time. Glad it all worked out for you guys!!!

Ended up doing La Cygne last Sunday. It was really weird at the beginning, we hooked about 5-6 bass in the first 90 minutes, but we couldn't get a single fish in the boat. All of them came off the line right before we pulled them in the boat. Never have had that happen on a consistent basis before. We then moved to the rip-rap and it still was weird. I was using a crank and caught a small drum, a catfish, and about 4 bluegill on that d**n crank, lol. My buddies didn't do any better, expect he caught a catfish that was pretty good size. Finally at the end of the day I hooked about a 2.5lb bass, not great but a good feeling none the less as that was my first time out in my new boat. Man do I have the fishing fever now more than ever!! I tried Hillsdale on July 4th and got skunked in the morning. Think we will try Coffey County next!!!

Ideal place to install a 3 bank charger on my Nitro 884
Thanks everyone, I just put it where the old bank charger was and made sure it was secured.
