  1. This "intuition", or sense of knowing is an inherent ability in all of us. For most, even those who stumble through life in the unconsciousness of consciousness can develop this. One doesn't need to have a trauma (emotional or physical), illness, or any other life altering event to open this conduit. There is a lot of information published about this phenomenon. I've had a number of occasions when I knew it was going to be fish on. It's an unusual feeling and difficult to describe, but it is very real.
  2. My standard practice after fishing in the rain is on the next dry day, open all the boxes up and allow them to dry thoroughly. In all my Plano cases I use Zerust Plastabs (vapor corrosion inhibitor) to prevent any rust from forming. They work very well.
  3. Loosen as soon as I'm off the water. Old habits die hard.
  4. I pulled the trigger on the yellow Texas Tackle & Gamakatsu pliers. One for my home tackle tool box & one to have out on the water. Thanks for the suggestions!
  5. I have the orange (5") handle pair. I'll look into the yellow handle ones. Thanks!
  6. I'm looking for a quality pair of split ring pliers that will work with #2 split rings (the size used by Megabass). I have a pretty good collection of split ring pliers ranging from cheap to expensive (Walmart to Toit) and the only one that works is one made by Smith and is more like a tweezer. Before I start modifying ones that I have, I was hoping someone might have found a pair that works well. I've searched the site (BR) but no joy. Gami has a micro pair that might have possibilities and Sampo might also.
  7. Next time out I'm going to try constantly videoing and see how that plays out in editing. I'm also going to bring my #3 camera to have as a backup or to use to capture photos that would be difficult for the bow & stern cameras to frame. What I have been doing is once I connect with a fish, I'll press the record button and will video until the fight is concluded, hooks removed, and lifted out of the water for the money shot. I do miss the actual strike and hookset but doing it this way breaks up the video into small clips of individual fish and makes clip selection pretty easy.
  8. Thanks. If you are constantly recording with multiple cameras, how do you get around not being able to highlight tag (Highlight Tagging when recording with multiple cameras isn't available.)? It appears that editing and sorting through the video file would be time consuming while editing. How do you guys deal with that?
  9. After doing some reading on the loop mode, I can see forgetting to reset it after a good catch and losing the video. I missed the video of a 5#er I caught the other day and it really bothered me. I had been having problems with one camera keeping paired to the remote and I only made it worse trying to resolve it while on the water. Ironically, I headed back to the launch site so I could reset the connections and repair the cameras. On the way back I dragged a crankbait behind me and that's when that bass hit. It was a great fight and I first thought I had a large snapping turtle because she wouldn't budge from the bottom. Once she gave up the bottom I got a nice tow around before she tired. No video, just the memory. She was released to fight another day. Shooting at 1080, how many hours could I get from a 256gb card?
  10. I have 3 Hero 8 Blacks. I tried the voice command but I didn't like that I had to yell out the commands. I'm going to look into the looping. That sounds interesting if I can get it to work. As a side note, I was out yesterday and the remote would lose the link to my bow camera. To make a long story short, I determined that where I had the remote mounted was the issue. Apparently the aluminum dash board and my FF were blocking the signal. Moving it a foot away allowed for linking. I'll see the next time out if the bow camera stays paired.
  11. I've been following the several threads on sunglasses because I need to get another set and want them to be more effective for fishing. Being that prescription sunglasses are so expensive, this isn't a purchase that I want to screw up. Has anyone had any issues buying them online? So far, I'm liking some of the Costa & Wiley-X offerings....
  12. They look pretty nice. I'm using the 3BR Powersports All Weather Power kits for both bow & stern GoPros. My stern camera boom is a modified telescoping monopod and the bow boom is made from RAM components. This system allows me to keep the batteries ( 2 Nocqua 10ah) down low in the hull. I do on occasion bring a 3rd GoPro mounted on a selfie stick for underwater video. For the record, I do videos purely for fun and they are something I can reference in the future. They also allow me to share with friends and family. I'm strictly an amateur but having fun doing it. How large of an SD card do you use? My fishing days on the water average 8 hours, and on occasion I've had one or two short days at 6 hours. I'm currently using 128G SD cards.
  13. That was my first choice that failed. It requires 2 hands and doesn't work well when trying to fight a fish. It appears that what I'm using currently is the best that I'll be able to muster.
  14. Between 2k & 3k. I made a major move to a boatload of Megabass lures which have proven to be a game changer for me. Next year I don't anticipate any major purchases and with some luck will only be purchasing consumables. I've said that before and have proven myself wrong many times.....
  15. I'm a fan of Sufix braid and have done well with the 832. The 131 took it to another level. At twice the price it's still worthy of consideration. It seems to do everything better than the 832. I'm not knocking 832. It works great but 131 works better. For line, I don't mind springing for the pricey stuff as long as it delivers.
  16. I currently am using moss green 10# (Sufix 131) braid with a 25' mono leader. There are times when my old eyes simply can't see my line. Being that I'm using such a long leader, I'd guess that hi viz braid shouldn't be a concern. Would I be correct?
  17. Awesome job and it's great to hear about your wife being in remission. If you want a good laugh, a long time ago a friend of mine bought a used and beat up aluminum john boat that needed quite a few patches. After completing all the patch work he realized the howling error he made. He used pop rivets for the patches. Essentially he made the worlds largest spaghetti colander. Disgusted, he cut it all up and trashed it. ......
  18. For those using GoPros with remotes, where and how did you mount the remote? I just "upgraded" to the current GoPro remote and made a mount using kydex and a Ram Mount 1" ball. It's not much different than my previous setup. Being that my small yak is crammed with gear my options are limited but I thought maybe there might be a better solution. Old remote mounting New remote
  19. I'd agree with the Marine DI but not the Archie Bunker comparison. I'd say more accurately a Shaolin monk and a USMC DI would be more on point.
  20. On August 16th, Tom Brown Jr. passed away. Tom was the founder of The Tracker School. The Tracker School was founded in 1978 by Tom Brown Jr, Americas most renowned Tracker, and Wilderness Survival expert. Based on the teachings of Stalking Wolf, the Apache elder from whom Tom learned his skills when he was just seven years old, he began teaching. The school has expanded to include over 75 classes, divided into eight course tracks. Tom ha taught tens of thousands of students he art of tracking, wilderness survival, and the philosophy of living close to Earth Mother. It has been a life changing experience for many. I had the privilege of attending and taking courses over 3 years. Life changing doesn't begin to cover it. I took my first course almost 35 years ago and I'm still learning from the lessons gifted to me while there. The Tracker community mourns his passing. We lost a great one and he will be missed. 22. I thought I saw a model of 8" Kknipex cutters that had a provision for a leash/lanyard. I don't have that particular one but wish I did (if it exists).
  23. The Crescent pliers pictured are pretty good and more budget friendly. I despise cheap tools. They are bound to fail when you need them most. I've used the Crescent ones for the past 2 years and have cut quite a few hooks, although they have been light gauge wire hooks without any issues. I keep the above in my yak and frequently use them to expedite hook removal and release. I'd rather have to replace a treble than to watch a fish float away belly up. I have a pair of Knipex cutters that I keep at home. They are really sweet but cost about 3x's what the Crescent cost.
