  1. Mr. Peabody, fire up the Wayback Machine!! My brother with a day's catch..... All were released after the leaches were removed and any wounds treated. All were caught by hand. IIRC, 65#, 55#, 25#.....
  2. I'll pick them up and carry them across the road in the direction they were heading.....
  3. Has anyone ever caught a snapping turtle? The pond I regularly fish has a lot of them and one I nicknamed "Bismark" because he's at least 2 1/2 feet long (nose to tip of tail), maybe a little longer. When I cross paths with him I give him the right of way and leave that area. When I was a teenager, we used to catch them by hand and did have one as a pet, so I'm no stranger to them. I definitely don't want to have to tangle with one and don't want to injure them but if caught, the only recourse is to cut the line.
  4. Can you ID this Megabass JDM color? Maybe GLX Ito Gill??
  5. For those who have heat issues in hot weather when wearing a PFD, a cooling towel helps tremendously. I keep it overnight in the fridge soaking in water and when I leave for a fishing trip it goes right into the cooler. It really is refreshing.
  6. I noticed the issue early on and took the lure out of service. This Oneten caught 3 or 4 fish.
  7. Wow is right. Today was the first time using Onetens and smoked them. Over 20 fish, the majority being pickerel (several were very respectable) but did score on a 2 1/2, 3, & 4# bass. The only downside was that they are truely a PITA to unhook. The 4#er required me to actually cut the hook to release it. He must have really blasted it because the lip was broken off. I know the lips are fragile and I didn't snag, or bang it off rocks, so I guess the bass did it. It's a small price to pay for an awesome day on the water.
  8. This is a very good point. Maybe a high mounted strobe for waters that get a lot of traffic?
  9. A wise choice, both in the choice of PFD and wearing it.
  10. No offense taken. It was a valid question.
  11. I want to blend in and not be seen. I fish a very small body of water and there are no motorized vessels allowed. I don't want to advertise that I'm fishing this out of the way pond. I also get to see more wildlife. More to point is why run full throttle when by the nature of the vessel, visibility is limited?
  12. I have to ask this question. If it's a given that the possible presence of kayaks exists AND that they can be difficult to see, why haul ass across the water when the operator knows he has limited visibility? If the same basic set of conditions existed on the road, and the driver knew of possible obstacles, wouldn't he be irresponsible in driving too fast for the existing conditions?
  13. It happened to one of my fishing buddies and his wife on a local lake. The boat repeatedly tried to swamp their yaks. A call to 911, Troopers responded and the boat operator was arrested. He was intoxicated and from what I heard, a CO that lost his job because of this. I'm sure there's lots more to the story that I don't know. This is one reason why I don't fish this lake even though it's very close to home and does have some large bass in it. It's only 50 acres or so and motorized boats are allowed. Some of the boats are way too large to have on such a small body of water. Here in NYS, kayakers are required to have "sound producing device" and a whistle is acceptable as long as it's audible for at least 1/2 mile. I have one leashed to my PFD and can use it in seconds if necessary.
  14. Good advice..... Near Collision
  15. Depending on what truck you have, there are manufacturers who make MOLLE panels for the interior. Pricey but they might provide some ideas on which to build on.
  16. Nice job!!! I am paranoid about damaging my rods & reels, so I ended up with an Apache 9800 which I modified. Overkill but bombproof. What parts did you use?
  17. One of the intangibles that I didn't see mentioned (apologies if I missed it) is the experience while on the move from spot to spot in a yak. You "see" far more in a yak than you will cruising along in a boat. For me, fishing is an overall experience and although the actually fishing is a major component yet not the only component that I value. Like everything in life, there are trade offs and compromises. You'll have to make an assessment of your needs and recognize that whatever you decide on might not check all the boxes.
  18. Just curious. I see loads of Megabass lures around, mostly asking ridiculous prices on Ebay and social media. Has there been any documented counterfeit ones found? It seems to me that it would be difficult to produce a reasonable counterfeit one.
  19. The weights might have been in the "cast" location (rear of lure). A quick shake will move them to the retrieve position.
  20. Good points. I haven't used it yet (and hope to never need it) and I'm sure it'll require some tweaking. From what I read about them, they really don't work well or at all from the bank because you need to be directly over your snagged lure. The snaps I used are 110# and might be too large. Any adjustments should be really easy and very low cost. This was a project that was just too easy to do to not cob one together. I really love DVT's idea of the chalk line reel.
  21. I thought Delaware Valley Tackle's chalk line idea was so choice that I went that route. I purchased a new chalk line (all mine had chalk in them) for cheap. Way easier to manage the line and pretty compact.
  22. It's no joke when the lead flies. Been on the wrong end of it 4x's, one of which was when I was on the water fishing in my yak. Not fun at all.
  23. I was concerned about that as well. If you control the weight's descent with another line, that might mitigate that possibility. I PlastiDipped the weight so there's a little cushion, albeit a very small one.
  24. It's a 2oz. weight.
