Hey Joe.S, A lot of guys talk about "slow" when it's cold. How long is your "pause"? More generally, how much time would you guess it takes for one cast and retrieve when you are fishing a jig this time of year?
  2. It all depends on your budget. Most of the recommendations from our members will be based on their "favorite brand". Here are a couple of ideas: For around $80, the Shimano Symetre and Stradic 2500FH (on sale) are the "best values" in the Shimano line-up. The new Stradic 2500FI may be the most radically redesigned reel Shimano has introduced in several years. This reel incorporates many of the features previously available only in the Stella. If money is of no concern, the Stella is "special". The Shimano motto is : Strong, smooth, quiet and reliant. I have found these reels live up to their reputation. With proper maintainence, you can expect them to perform flawlessly for many years. Reels I have owned for ten years fish exactly as they did when they were new, right out of the box.
  3. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  4. Buy a small spool and see for yourself, it's not a big investment. I have fished many lines over the years and continue to experiment with others. Yo-Zuri works for me, I hope it works out for you, too.
  5. St. Croix Avid AC66MF/ Shimano Metanium/ #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft
  6. Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (11.9 lb test) Baitcasting gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test)
  7. C'mon guys... Back on topic, please...
  8. Welcome aboard! I expect someone to come by shortly and help. Good luck! 8-)
  9. For just a few more bucks you could get a Shimano Symetre or the discontinued Stradic on sale. These are considered the "Best Values" in the Shimano line-up. Both have a reputation built on the motto: Strong, Smooth, Silent and Reliant. With proper maintainance, you should expect more than a decade of service. In ten years these reels will perform exactly the same as they did the day you first took them out of the box.
  10. Nope, but I have (2) 2500FB and (1) 1000FA. Fishing with these reels is like holding (another term for kitty cat) in the palm of your hand. 8-)

We'll see... Most of the time color may not be important, but sometimes it is critical. Sometimes it's not just the general color, but an exact shade or a specific accent. Color can come into play, even at night.
  14. Just arrived yesterday. Regarding the mailing list. I think everything revolves around being a cardholder. In addition to EVERY piece they mail, I continue receiving the "Limited Addition" hardback catalog even though I ask them EVERY YEAR not to mail it to me! Once you are on the list, you may not be able to escape
  15. Well, read the post above yours and spend A LOT of time researching the project. Making your own stuff might be lots of fun, but it will involve some investment in both time and money. If you just want to do it for "fun" that's great, but you won't save any money!
  16. Delo's had a sale going on in December ($20 off). That's over, but the Curado is still a GREAT deal: http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocurado.html

  18. Girl's volleyball? Synchronized swimming? Or is it something waaaaaaaay more boring? ________________________________________ The last World Cup I watched, more than a decade ago it seems, was decided by a "free kick" after 4 or 5 hours of total boredom. Final score 1-0. :-X
  19. Cabela's has all spool sizes and strengths: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0030185119281a&type=product&cmCat=Search_Results_NYR&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=hybrid+ultra+soft&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=hybrid+ultra+soft&noImage=0 #6 is on sale: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0046976119280a&type=product&cmCat=Search_Results_NYR&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=hybrid+ultra+soft&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=hybrid+ultra+soft&noImage=0
  20. If that's a FLW rule, then maybe not. Otherwise, anyone can use the locks, but the main risk is availability. Sometimes boats can get stacked up waiting on barge traffic. The Tennessee is a commercial river.
  21. The best prices I have seen are Bass Pro "in-store" specials. Last year I picked up some Pointers for around $7. These are not advertised specials, they just "happened" to be on sale.

  23. Congratulations Jayhawks! You guys had a GREAT season. 8-)
  24. I have fished the Evolution Jig and had no issues. The ones I have are perfectly built and perform flawlessly. If you have a problem, please send Bobby at MegaStike a PM or e-mail and I am sure he will send you a replacement, he might send you two!
