  1. I don't get it. With all this "smoke and mirrors" stuff be tossed around, why not buy something else? Man, there are a lot of alternatives at that pricing point.
  2. IPT (inches per turn) or IPC (inches per crank) is most important and higer gear ratios generally have a faster retrieve. For example the Shimano Calais is 6.2:1 with 26 IPC. The other consideration is the bait itself. The Cavitron Buzzbait gets up on plane faster than any other. I HIGHLY recommend these lures, especially 3/8 oz black on black. 8-)
  3. You don't need a special line, whatever you are using on your baitcasters will be fine. I like Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft. 8-)
  4. Four left, including tonight. The BCS Championship is next week.
  5. You don't have to buy another rod, your MH will be just fine.
  6. #1 You need a mentor or close friend that is ALREADY a hunter to work with you. #2 A Hunter's Safety course is MANDATORY. #3 Go to a range and become VERY familiar with your weapon before ever considering a trip into the field. #4 I think you should start with a few small game outings. I would recommend bird hunting which is easier to learn and in my opinion, safer.
  7. Okay, as a Missouri Tigers alumni, I don't think I have EVER rooted for Kansas, but tonight I'm a Big 12 fan! So, what's the skinny?
  8. Welcome aboard! I'll wait on the regional guys to answer, you might need something more on the Great Lakes than we need in the Mid South.
  9. I hope some of our sponsors respond to this thread, they might have some very interesting comments. My take is simple: Action and Profile
  10. Some people probably think the Baby Bass is too small for a "swimbait", but I can assure you, it is NOT too big!
  11. You guys REALLY need to pick up a Cavitron Buzzbait. I guarantee you will like everything about this lure. It has an odd chirping sound, bubbly wake and gets up on plane immediately. I had some GREAT luck with this buzzbait last summer. BTW, I was fishing the 3/8 oz, black on black.
  12. Some fine fish!
  13. 17 degrees here this morning, but 60 forecast for Saturday! I'm hoping this cold snap followed by warm weather will stimulate the smallmouth bite this weekend.
  14. Here is an article from Fox News. It's pretty interesting, especially the links that are posted: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,318686,00.html
  15. Yep, that is something to consider. I have recently purchased #15 original formula Hybrid to experiment with on a couple of baitcasters. This thicker line results is few backlashes and the few I have are less gnarly. I have not experienced ANY problem with "kinks". However, I have only been fishing this line for a short time, so the jury is still out.
  16. The Alabama State Record Largemouth is 16.5 lbs (1987); Smallmouth 10.5 lbs (1950). No one caught a 10 at Lake Fork. Glenn caught the big bass which was 9.1 lbs. For a number, I would call 8+ a Fat Girl.
  17. Fat Girls? I think 4-6 lbs can be a reasonable expectation with a few 8 and 9. 10's are possible, but that's a BIG bass at Guntersville, like everwhere else for most of us. What I think will suprise people is the number of good bass that will be caught.
  18. Shimano Symetre or for the same price if you can find it on sale, the Stradic 2500FH for around $80 (the same price as the Symetre). As far as a baitcaster goes, buy another Citica or Curado, they are both on sale!
  19. Well, if you are just looking for a reel, the Chronarch CH50MG cannot be beat at your pricing point. The ideal rod to match it up with would be a G.Loomis GLX MBR844C. This combination will also be your jig rig!
  20. Congratulations WVU and all their fans. That was a whoopin'.
  21. Welcome aboard! We have several members in the region that should be by shortly with some ideas. Good luck!
  22. Huh? What makes that a "good buy"? :-?
  23. What! You crazy mahn? I catch a lot of spots, but they are no match for a smallmouth.
