  1. Man, those are some fine slabs! 8-)
  2. I'm so jealous... 8-)
  3. Even bass that are gill hooked will survive if the damage is not too extensive. I wouldn't worry about it, chances are very good that the fish is just fine. Quick release is the most important key to survival. Bass are much tougher than you might think. The worst thing I think fishermen do is haul them around in their livewell all day, especially in the summer. Those fish become VERY stressed.
  4. I do it all the time. I fish a big reservoir that is loaded with fish under the slot. The DNR has even raised the creel limit with the hopes of increasing the harvest, but they're finding out that very few fishermen practice catch and keep. It's a strange problem, really...they can't get the fishermen to eat fish. My grandpa would not understand. :-? I think if you ask around the office or neighborhood you would find a lot of people that would REALLY appreciate some fresh fish. They probably don't fish and just don't have any opportunity to eat locally harvested game of any kind.. I keep ALL the bass at my "Secret Pond," but I'm not interested in eating but a few and only occasionally. I cannot kill enough fish in this pond, it's ruined. When I'm on the Tennessee River, if we have someone who will keep the fish, we keep all the catfish, spots and white bass. Once again, you just couldn't kill enough. When we catch a legal sauger or crappie, I'm all about those fish. So, my point is...There is NOTHING wrong with selective harvest, it will improve the health of your body of water.
  5. Yo-Zuri RatlN' Vibe, red (crawfish) Lucky Craft LV500-Max & LV300 (Spring Craw & Aurora Black)
  6. get-the-net, Welcome aboard!
  7. Amistad is not a done deal. Several locations are under consideration including BAMA-BAMA-BAMA...
  8. Aim 10' - 15' to the right! Seriously, it's just a matter of practice. Most guys think baitcasters are MUCH more accurate than spinning gear. Now, I don't happen to agree with that statement, but the point is after some time on the water your accuracy will improve dramatically.
  9. There probably aren't any bass and even if there are, they're too small to be of interest. I suggest that you find more promising water to spend you're time on.
  10. I guess I missed this earlier... ;D ;D ;D 8-)
  11. Cabela's, another BassResource.com sponsor, also has a "Bargin Cave". Click on their banner here so the Forum will get a little credit if you decide to buy something. Also, check out the Flea Market here on the Forum. There are usually some GREAT deals there.
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. Aaaaaaaa... #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft?
  14. No, it is NOT suitable for soft plastics or jigs.
  15. This is the rod I have and HIGHLY recommend to you: http://www.reedssports.com/Product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=666 I consider this my "all-around" baitcasting rod. Although the rod is rated Fast Action, the tip is soft.
  16. Nice fish. Congratulations!
  17. Practice, practice and more concentrated practice. However, as Catt alluded to, generally a BIG splash attracts bass.
  18. Bull Shoals can be VERY challenging. I suggest hiring my guide, Tim "Hot Dawg" Curtis.
  19. Take a look at my links in this thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186429139/1#1
  20. Man, I'm with you! "About 6 or 7" sounds a lot better than four.
  21. Welcome aboard! This will fix you up: http://www.animatedknots.com/arbor/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com#Autoblock
  22. I'm glad you guys like your Revos and I hope they are the real deal. In about a year or two, we'll have something a little more concrete to work with and comment on. Reputation is everything to me. flechero and Raul, among others, have pointed out that Abu Garcia has produced GREAT reals in the past. However, in the recent past, when I owned a couple, it was not a part of that "high quality" period. Burn me once shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me. My last Ford was a 1976 Granada. Now Quality is Job #1, but back then Quality did not have a job. My last Abu Garcia was something built in the late 90's. We'll see.
  23. Well that's just the difference in what we both like about catching bass. I admire the fish you and Fish Chris catch, but landing a monster in 3-4 minutes is just not my kinda fun. Don't get me wrong, I'm not that silly...I would LOVE to catch a giant Cali bass, but for everyday fishing what I enjoy is light tackle and a 15- 20 minute battle with a fish that REALLY has a chance. Smallmouth are only half done when you get them to the boat for the FIRST time. Largemouth, especially the bigun's, are done early and the way you guys horse them to the boat is just not my deal. (BTW, It's NOT personal, my favorite fisherman of all-time, Bill Dance, "planes" them on his fishing shows, too.) So...Different strokes for different folks. Congratulations on your PB! 8-)
  24. Welcome aboard!
