Rod selection
At your pricing point, I like this rod: http://www.reedssports.com/Product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=670 If you can find a deal, I like this choice better: http://products.gloomis.com/gl/products/alltackle/detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441761005&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032505&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181201&bmUID=1186138816566

New Rod and Reel Combo Ideas
Man, we have a lot of rod & reel threads working this week. I brought this one back to the top because the pricing point seems to address the questions being asked on other threads.

Spoiling for a fight
Well guys, it rarely works out that way and after about 8 pages of the same crap restated six times, it gets old. So, maybe nobody is satisfied but at some point it's over, just like the thread were all talking about! Dude quit again and I don't think we're going to let him change his mind this time. 8-)

Worth selling 2 rods for 1 better quality rod?
Length is personal preference. I like 7' but I also have two 6 1/2' rods. I think what is important is a firm tip. Lures and techniques that are better fished with a soft tip (basically all treble hooks) can still be fished adequately with a firm tip, and for jigs and soft plastics, a firm tip is MANDATORY!

Worth selling 2 rods for 1 better quality rod?
Don't "think it" too hard. Get what you need and get rid of stuff that doesn't feel right to you. Seems simple to me.

All you so called "Fishermen or Anglers"...
dabnis, I never saw your post or obviously, any replying posts. So...I'm not sure what's up with all that. To start over, let me say that you are welcomed here and entilted to keep ALL your fish that have been legally taken, meet size requirements and do not exceed the limit. Some of our members may be just a little overzealous about Catch & Release, but as the #1 Bass Forum on the internet, we STRONGLY encourage C & R on a regular basis. Many of us keep an occasional fish, but a lot of the guys prefer eating other species. I happen to be a fan of walley, sauger, crappie, catfish, striper and an occasional trout. So, take a deep breath...This is a friendly crowd and if you feel like you are being targeted by ANY member(s), please send me a PM (personal message) through the BassResource.com message function and it WILL BE ADDRESSED. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

most underrated lures/baits
I agree with all the above....It's really interesting to me how tubes go in and out of favor. When the Gitzit was first intoduced, it was the Senko of its day. I still consider a tube the most versatile lure in the fishing world.

Help me pickout a new rod..
I'm sure you will be pleased with your new rod. Congratulations!

Im all about soft plastics but...
I'm with Russ. I fish one lure per outing on my local ponds. Sometimes it's a buzzbait, then a Spook, maybe a popper, spinnerbait, shallow crank...the list gos on and on...But, I NEVER take along soft plastics unless that's what I plan to use. Otherwise that's what I would end up using because I know, FOR SURE, I'm going to catch a few bass if I do.

New To Forum with some questions
Welcome aboard! Well, I have the simple answer if you're looking to move way up the learning curve in the shortest possible time: Hire a guide for a day or two on Guntersville. You will learn more in a day with a good guide than you could possibly discover in a year fishing on your own.

Rod and Reel???
This thread is still running on Page 1, a few lines down. Anyhow, take a look at the suggestions, mine would be the same for you: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1185992956/7#7

Knots you use
Huh? I tie a Palomar Knot 99% of the time and I use #4 (.090" diameter) and #6 (.010") line EXTENSIVELY. For big, treble hook lures, the Trilene Knot or Uni Knot work fine. For fun I have been experimenting with a few other knots, most notably the San Diego Jam. I never have knot problems with any of these. Here is an animated website where you can look at all the knots I have mentioned and many others: http://www.animatedknots.com/

Browning Midas Reel
NO. With a little patience you can buy a new Shimano Citica or "like new" Curado (older model) on the BassResource.com Flea Market. I don't believe there are any on there for sale right now, but they come up all the time. These are great reels with a PROVEN history of performance and durability.

summer slowdown
Well, you really can't fish tubes deep very well without weight. In relatively open water, 1/8- 1/4 oz inserted jig head, exposed hook. Otherwise, T-rigged, barrel or bullet weight with a bead, unpegged, Texposed and skin hooked.
