  2. Welcome aboard! To get started go to the top of the page and click on "Fishing Articles." The first option in that section is "For Beginning Anglers." That is where you need to start. It's fun! I hope you enjoy these articles and the rest of the site. Good luck!
  3. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?action=post;num=1170685886;quote=3;title=PostReply the_Conceited_ReDnEcK, Seems even a Abu Garcia fan would disagree with your assessment. Dr. Raul has a pretty good handle on the technical attributes of a number of brands. His may be just one fellow's opinion, but it carries a lot of weight with me, even when his opinions are different than mine. The Revo may turn out to be the "deal of the year" and a great reel, but Garcia's reputation in recent years is still questionable.
  4. If you are looking for a left handed baitcaster, there are two Shimano Curados for sale in the Flea Market right now. $110 each, delivered.
  5. Good for you. Those are some great prices.
  6. Nope. I always fish grubs on a jig head.
  7. Better hustle over to the Flea Market. Two Curado on sale for $110 each, delivered!
  8. You will need to buy a very sharp pair of scissors. I recommend using either the Braid Knot or a Palomer Knot. Although I have other issues with braid and no longer use it, I never had any problems using either of these knots. Some will suggest using Super Glue on the knot, but I never found it necessary.
  9. A few years ago Ray Scott came out with a new, light fishing combination. The reel he helped develop for this rig was made exclusively by U.S. Reel in St. Louis, Missouri. Ray Scott has aggressively markerted this package in a number of fishing magazines, including Bass Master's just about every month. I bought the initial offering, directly from Ray Scott. The reels were in such high demand that it took a couple of months to get the reel and it was delivered to me directly from the manufacturer. Oddly enough, I actually talked with the owner of U.S. Reel a couple of times. So, I bought into the hype, I trusted Ray Scott and I was one of the first people in the country to fish this equipment. I fished the rod and reel a couple of times, then gave it to my dad for Christmas that year. I think my dad really likes it. He also fishes a Zebco 202 from the 70's and likes it, too. There is NOTHING about the U.S. Reel that remotely resembles Japanese reels. Maybe Ardent will turn out differently, but it's unreasonable for anything new and untested to be touted as the "Next New Thing." Unless of course, it turns out to be just that!
  10. Your downside is a $50 (all-in) replacement fee. The G.Loomis Xpeditor service is totally user-friendly.
  11. High Noon at the OK Corral, be there or be square! Congrats on your new gear, it sounds great!
  12. One of our members and contibuting author, Craig DeFronzo (earthworm77) makes a fine jig. Check them out: www.micromunchtackle.com
  13. Now, that's funny! They hold up pretty well if you don't use them! :
  14. Vanish has a bad rap because the original formula was too brittle and the line line was prone to break without apparant cause. The line was also VERY stiff and unmanageable, especially in larger diameters. The old formula was simply undependable. The new formula is probably much better, but for those of us that were burned once, most will never give Vanish another try.
  15. Welcome aboard!
  16. da Bears have been outplayed. Give the Colts an inch and they take a mile. Now, we got a game!
  17. slow_n_easy, Welcome aboard! BTW, Most big bass are caught in the middle of the day. My "zone' is about 10:00AM to 3:00 PM, Fish_Chris (big Cali bass fisherman) likes EXACTLY 11:30! Doug Hannon also mentioned mid-day in his article today. I think you will like your new fishing "home."
  18. Just finished my first Budweiser. I'm on the John Daly program, no "drinking" until kickoff...beer doesn't count! I don't have a horse in the race, so those are just my thoughts. I'm not a big Chicago fan, I just don't care much for Manning. So, gotta root for someone, right? Today, it's da Bears.
  19. First of all, there is no "best" rod, just "favorite." However, the "best" rods I own are G.Loomis GLX. I have a MBR 844C and a PR844S. These are both "production rods" and they are ABSOLUTELY perfect in every way. Although I have heard this knock about "off spine" production, I have never know anyone with a high end Loomis that has EVER experienced or knows anyone else that has experienced the problem. I have heard that a bigger problem is with blanks sent to rod makers, but I do not know whether that is true either. The GLX is either perfect or at least exactly "as described." If you don't like it for ANY reason, you can exchange it for another. G.Loomis has a reputation that has been built over time. That is the reason all other rods are compared to Loomis, it is the standard by which all other rods are measured. The ploy always runs something like this, "Just as good as a G.Loomis at a much better price." There are plenty of great rod manufacturers, but there is only one G.Loomis. What about Japanese rod manufacturers? Doesn't "best" include price, service and warranty? Maybe MegaBass is a higher quality rod, but the other factors would not make it "best" in my view. If it's the overall "package" we're back to G.Loomis.
  20. So, $49 for two rods delivered...What do you think? I suspect you can by two "comparable" rods at Wal-Mart, on sale, for half the price.
  21. There is no "best" line, just "favorite" line. My idea of the perfect line would be : 1. Totally invisible. 2. Zero memory. 3. Highly abrasive resistant. 4. 200% breaking strength at a "true" line diameter. What else would define "the perfect line" for you?
  22. da Bears 37 Colts 17 da Bears defense gets to Manning early, gameover. da Bears defense scores early, set up the O for another quick score, gameover. da Bears establish the run, control the clock, control the momentum, game over.
  23. Almost 7:15...Still sober...Looking forward to noon...I think I might convert to EST today...
  24. Welcome aboard!
