  1. Last time you were at a sports show you probably signed up for a couple of "free" drawings. Some magazines sell their membership list, too. But it would NOT be from Cabela's or BPS, they maintain very strict control over their customer files.
  2. If you order some of Craig's jigs, pick up a couple of bags of his El Gordo tubes, too. You will not be disappointed.
  3. I fish spinning tackle for all soft plastics. My main equipment is a St.Croix Legend Elite ES70MF/ Shimano Stella 2500FB/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6/ Gamakatsu or X-Point 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. My generic suggestion for selecting the rod is Medium Power/ Fast Action. Although I use this same rig for light jigs, for heavier lures I'm on board with some of the previous suggestions. My weapon of choice is the G.Loomis GLX MBR844C/ Shimano CTE200GT/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12/ Micro Munch Tackle jigs and GYCB Fat Baby Craws. My generic suggestion is Heavy Power/ Fast Action. I feel that I get more bites with light tackle. Perhaps lighter line allows for more lure action. When fishing soft plastics, I also want to avoid the "professional overrun" that occurs when baits go airborne. It may not happen often, but when it does it's a mess. For me, spinning tackle is a better choice for soft plastics and light jigs.
  4. Last months In-Fisherman had a article dedicated to Float'nFly. Fred McClintock was interviewed as the source expert within the piece. The overview, to paraphrase, "This is a technique of last resort. It's slow, boring and generally only produces little fish."
  5. My partner fishes #6 original Hybrid, I fish #4 Ultra Soft.
  6. My "all-around" baitcaster is the St. Croix Avid AC66MF. This is an excellent rod for medium weight treble hook lures. Although the rod action is rated "fast," the tip is soft. This is a very comfortable rod to fish. For heavier baits and deep divers, I prefer glass.
  7. Excellent! That is a pretty reel. I know you haven't been a big fan of spinning tackle, but this should help get you over the hump.
  8. Actually, Yo-Zuri Hybrid #4 is .009", #6 is .010".
  9. Welcome aboard! It looks like you received the response you were looking for. Good luck!
  10. Welcome aboard! You guys are being sillly. P-Line CXX was my "go-to"ine until I discovered Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. You do NOT have to put up with memory to fish a line that is HIGHLY abrasion resistant. The original Hybrid or the Ultra Soft is comparable to Trilene XT when it comes to "tough."
  11. Well, I was in the Memphis BPS last week and they had something else on sale, 1000 yards for $1.99... I didn't buy it either.
  12. Throw it away! It's thick, unmanagable and weak, particularly the tensile strength. It is some of THE WORST line I have ever tried to fish.
  13. Welcome aboard!
  14. Hmm... You might want to consider joining the possee. I have never had that problem with Shimano. :
  15. Welcome aboard!
  16. Welcome aboard! Nice bass, nice pic!
  17. This is a great rod for the price: http://www.reedssports.com/Product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=3081
  18. lazeebum, Welcome aboard! Florence, Al might be the Big Smallmouth Capital of the World. I guess you can't claim the crown until someone down there catches the new World Record, but you certainly have a chance. Do you ever fish with Steve Hacker?
  19. You are! ** corrected ** Wow! I feel like I am back in Catholic school getting graded on punctuation, grammar and spelling.
  20. Wow! justfishin, I for one enjoy your posts and hope you will reconsider. I think your fishing knowledge has helped a lot of people here at BassResource.com and I am especially interested in your insight and experience chasing big brown fish. If someone has attacked you personally, please send me a PM. As for my personal perspective on sharing information: What do you want to know? On the Tennessee River, my partner and I see a lot of guys struggling. We USUALLY strike up a conversation as we pass them fishing. If they are 1) pleasant and 2) interested, we will tell them EXACTLY what they might try and where they should be fishing. What is so surprising to me is that they RARELY take our advice!
  21. Try all three! On your spinning tackle you will REALLY like #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. On your baitcasters try the Gamma Copolymer on one and the Sufix on another. After fishing all of these lines, post a review. I'm interested and I'm sure others would be, too.
  22. ** Note ** The smallmouth section is new so we are being flexible with that Forum. This could have been put in that section, but this is the CORRECT Forum for rods. My partner has two Bronzeback which I have fished. He loves them, but I think the tips are too soft for anything except live bait. This series was created to fill a "specialty rod" niche. I don't find them to be very special. Of course, now there are a dozen models in the serires and you may find one you like very much. My "smallmouth rod" is the GLX PR844S. It is my favorite rod, period. Although the #4 blank generally implies Heavy Power, in this series the taper and tip is significantly different than the MBR, for example. This is a Medium Power/ Fast action "popping rod" designed for light saltwater fishing, both live bait and lures. Small fish under 5 lbs are still fun to catch, but when you need power, this rod loads up and can handle almost anything in fresh water. Casting distance is another tremendous attribute of the rod. If you are using the approriate weight in your lure selection, this equipment achieves maximum distance. Oddly, this is also the case when fishing live minnows on a split shot rig. Downside: This is NOT my main rod for heavier soft plastics, the tip is too soft for my taste. For 6" & 7"Senkos, El Gordo tubes and jigs over 3/8 oz, I prefer a firm tip. For those applications I fish a St.Croix Legend Elite ES70MF. BTW, Although I am NOT getting any Bronzeback rods, my partner just purchased the GLX PR844S if that means anything. These rods match up pretty well with the Shimano Stella 2500FB, too! :
  23. dodgeguy used to be a BIG fan of Power Pro, but he has swiched over to Sufix and HIGHLY recommends that brand. I don't fish braid, but if I did, I would give the Sufix a try. A lot of guys on this Forum seem to really like the stuff.
  24. Ouch! Let's talk about Texas a minute...Has all this rain filled up most of the reservoirs?
