  1. I think both games will be exciting. Saints win unless da Bears fire on all cylinders. If Peyton chokes, again, and the D goes back to "normal," Patriots win big. Brady is a stud, but the Patriots don't compare to the teams they have fielded in recent years. This one could be a nail biter. I'm picking Saints over da Bears, 34-13; Patriots over Colts, 27-24 in overtime.
  2. I would like to address the political implications: Far fewer people participate in hunting activities than fishing. There is no "catch & release." The images of hunting portrayed by the opposition includes graphic and usually morbid depiction of the sport. Even those of us that hunt cannot argue that this is in fact the opitimy of a "blood sport." However, hunting is not generally being targeted for extinction. I will edit this post if some knows the correct percentages, but for sake of argument, I recall figures something like these: Less than 10% of the U.S. population hunts. 15% of the population opposes hunting. But here is the key: 75% don't care! The 75% don't necessarily support hunting, but they DON'T oppose it either. Most hunters understand that their sport doesn't need a "killer image." We "harvest" animals to "manage" these resources. Specifically, most hunters no longer strap their kill to the hood of their truck. Fishing, I think, faces even fewer restrictions. The recent push by PETA portraying "daddy torturing poor little fish" has, for the most part, backfired on them. I DO NOT suggest we let down our guard, but this campaign was simply assinine. I don't know what the "real" numbers are, but I suspect "avid" anglers represent far less than 10% of the population. "Occasional" fisherman might push this number to 25 or 30%, but I doubt it. Again, it's not the opposition that we should be most concerned about. We must do what we can so as not to alienate the vast majority of citizens that "don't care."
  3. Aaaaa...well, aaaaa...that doesn't look like my fishing partner. Cindy, hun? I don't watch much tv...When is that "Fishing Show" aired? :
  4. Thanks Craig. This is a very thorough piece you have written. I 'll be interested to see comments and questions that an article like this is sure to generate. Good job!
  5. Whew! Good, I hope we don't run out of spots. I think Matt Fly told me that the Texas DNR will pick up the Share Lunkers. So, if your livewell only holds three, the game wardens will come out and get them and we won't have to go back to the dock for lunch. :
  6. WHAT? You lost it! Man, you have some work to do!
  7. We have a couple of threads running on page 1 of this section. I just posted this response. It hhasn't changed much in the last two minutes. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1169003620 The most important feature I like about Ultra Soft is low memory, virtually NO MEMORY IN USE.
  8. More than once? Okay, I'll play... Spinning tackle: Yo-Ziri Hybrid Ultra Soft #4 (8.5 lb test) & #6 (11.9 lb test) Baitcasting: Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test)
  9. No doubt it derived from the use of the term referring to the equipment required for sailing. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/tackle
  10. If you can find a river that is known for smallmouth, this is probably the very best time of year to target those bass. If it's largemouth you are after, I have been having some success with a 6" Senko. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1167673438
  11. Nice crowd, too! More than 150 Vol fans to cheer on the team.
  12. Back before you didn't like Janet Jackson, she had a big hit called "Nasty Boys." Yep, I'm one of those guys!

  14. I agree with the previous posts, shelf life is indefinite if they have been kept in storage as you described.
  15. Beer in one hand, salty stickbait in the other...Ever wonder why your wife thinks your nuts? My wife once asked me, "Where do you guys go to wash your hands before eating a sandwich and chips?" Hun?

  17. Hey Craw! You need a cowboy hat. Anybody ever call you Walker? As in "Walker, Texas Ranger."
  18. 6" Senko Fat Ika Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo (tube)
  19. I seems like we often have threads asking "What do you think of this..." after the equipment has been purchased. I think a lot of people are reluctant to criticize something you have already bought. If you really want some advice, ask before you buy, the number of responses will probably be greater and provide you with better information on which to base a decision. Also, if you get negative reviews, don't take it personally...you asked for an opinion and that's what you got.
  20. I'd say so! Nice fish, nice pics.

  22. The SR705R is what I consider a specialty rod or "technique specific." For the most part I fish an "all-around" rig with a fast retrieve reel: St. Croix Avid AC66MF/ Shimano Calais (6.2"1). This is a great rig for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater, jerkbaits and buzzbaits. Perfect for lipleess cranks, too! Note: The Avid AC66MF is described as Fast Action, which it is, but it has a soft tip which is what makes this rod appropriate for the applications described. (I would normally suggest Moderate Action). In my opinion, the tip makes this rod unacceptable for soft plastics and jigs. Another rod I would suggest looking at is the G.Loomis PR844C. This will probably be my next purchase and will either replace or overlap the St. Croix Avid that I am currently using. This rod is also listed as Fast Action, but it too has a soft tip. This is the baitcasting twin of my favorite piece of equipment, PR844S.
  23. I fish the 20+ & 25+, but I too consider these trolling lures. The are very hard to fish.
