Yep, I see #2 listed, it must have been added recently. Stay away from the X-Tex Cobra, it is some of the worst line I have ever tried.

Fishing jerkbaits is my favorite technique. The Lucky Craft Pointer 128 is my favorite lure. I have some of the Slender Pointers and they work fine, but I don't think there is anything "special" about them.

The Banjo Minnow is nothing special, it works when almost anything else would have worked better. Yes, I also have the Kick-tail and keep the complete, three piece set, in one of the top shelf compartments of my tackle box- to remind me NEVER to by another product advertised on an informercial!

I suspect dealing with renegade players is much easier than brash ownership. That's something head coaches are faced with much of the time. Parcels has been there, done that. He has had a great career and now it's time to move on. I don't really think the circumstances are all that mysterious or complicated.

Although I think that is generally true, you will be able to judge for yourself when you do a little testing of your own. Take the spooled reel that you plan to match up with the rod and a couple of lures or jigs along with you (1/2, 3/4 & 1 oz). I think you can tell just by the feel of a rigged up rod which one you like better. The last digit in the Loomis numbering system is suppose to describe the Power rating, but this varies. For example, 4 can be both Medium or Heavy depending on the model.

Welcome aboard! The best "value" is a rod & reel combination, on sale, at one of the major retailers. I would suggest looking for a 2500 series reel and a 6 1/2' or 7 ' Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rod. For around $150 you should be able to buy about $250 (retail) worth of equipment. If you are not in a hurry, keep an eye on the "Flea Market" here at BassResource.com. GREAT deals pop up every now and then.
