  1. We have a lot of very knowledgeable fishermen and women on this Forum. Everyone here is interested in helping other members when they can, but we need to ask the question in order to get response. Like momma said, "Look before you leap!"
  2. I don't think the "action" is special, but I bought a couple of colors that were different and most importantly, BPS had them on an in-store sale for $6.99. So, what I meant to say is that you should not duplicate one of these with a Pointer you might already have.
  3. We can make this simple if you like: If it is a powerful 7' casting rod you are looking for, you can order the G.Loomis GLX MBR844C sight unseen. You will be 100% satisfied with your purchase, regardless of the reel you match it with. This is one of the finest production rods available. And yes, I have one... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1169254349/20#20
  4. Catt is THE charter member! Be sure to take a look at the other thread Catt started. He posted a picture of his first Shimano. Too Cool!
  5. Yep, I see #2 listed, it must have been added recently. Stay away from the X-Tex Cobra, it is some of the worst line I have ever tried.
  6. In three weeks it will be ten years.
  7. Wow! I agree and have nothing to add to Brad's comments.
  8. Fishing jerkbaits is my favorite technique. The Lucky Craft Pointer 128 is my favorite lure. I have some of the Slender Pointers and they work fine, but I don't think there is anything "special" about them.
  9. The Banjo Minnow is nothing special, it works when almost anything else would have worked better. Yes, I also have the Kick-tail and keep the complete, three piece set, in one of the top shelf compartments of my tackle box- to remind me NEVER to by another product advertised on an informercial!
  10. I am a BIG fan of rubber nets.
  11. This came up a few days ago and is still on the first page of this section: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1169054444
  12. I suspect dealing with renegade players is much easier than brash ownership. That's something head coaches are faced with much of the time. Parcels has been there, done that. He has had a great career and now it's time to move on. I don't really think the circumstances are all that mysterious or complicated.
  13. Craig! That's just perfect... Plus he thinks the only thing a St. Croix is good for is staking tomatoes. I fish both company's rods and like them, but going forward, I am probably choosing G.Loomis over St. Croix.
  14. Although I think that is generally true, you will be able to judge for yourself when you do a little testing of your own. Take the spooled reel that you plan to match up with the rod and a couple of lures or jigs along with you (1/2, 3/4 & 1 oz). I think you can tell just by the feel of a rigged up rod which one you like better. The last digit in the Loomis numbering system is suppose to describe the Power rating, but this varies. For example, 4 can be both Medium or Heavy depending on the model.
  15. 021, 194J, 208 & 297 or as far as I'm concerned, anything "dark."
  16. Congratulations! This is no "time of ownership" requirement to join the posse and you can still fish (some) other equipment, too! After you fish your new gear a few times, post a review and tell us about the new reel. I bet you are going to like it, a lot. Good luck!
  17. da Bears 30 Colts 17
  18. Welcome aboard! The best "value" is a rod & reel combination, on sale, at one of the major retailers. I would suggest looking for a 2500 series reel and a 6 1/2' or 7 ' Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rod. For around $150 you should be able to buy about $250 (retail) worth of equipment. If you are not in a hurry, keep an eye on the "Flea Market" here at BassResource.com. GREAT deals pop up every now and then.
  19. No, it was a Wal-Mart in Arkansas, but each store has unadvertised specials on occasion. Just got lucky!
  20. Spinning tackle: #4 & #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft Baitcasting gear: #12 Ultra Soft
  21. Rod: G.Loomis GLX MBR844C Reel: Shimano CTE200GT Line: Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft #12 But I would REALLY like to have a spinning rod, too: Rod: G.Loomis SJR843S or St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF Reel: Shimano Stella 2500FB Line: Ultra Soft #6 I could be perfectly content doing all of my fishing with just one spinning rod and one baitcasting rod. Technique specific equipment is fun, but this basic package is all I really NEED.
  22. Congratulations Bears fans! Stay confident, other teams have won the Super Bowl without a quarterback, you can, too! It's all up to the Chicago D to put the heat on Manning. If they show up the game will be close, otherwise this game has the potential to become very lopsided.
  23. Well, for Colts fans that was a FABULOUS comback, but it was also the worst TOTAL COLLASPE in playoff history! I think the Patriots have EVERYTHING to be embarrassed about. I thought they were pitiful and Caldwell should find another team to play for next year. On to the Super Bowl!
  24. I don't know which one is "best", but my choice would not include any of the options in the poll. My "favorite" is Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft.
