  1. So I have an awesome salmon fishing spot around 10 min away from my house and want to catch a lot of salmon in this autumns king run in california but I don't want to buy a whole new fishing setup. I have my curado K which I would love to use instead of buying another reel just to fish with it for 3 months out of the year. but I'm not sure if it will have enough drag power for these fish (they fight hard averaging at probably ten plus pounds per fish). or will it be capable of casting much heavier lures. what do you think? will my curado be able to handle these fish as long as I put it on a heavier rod or am i asking to much of the reel.
  2. yeah the lady really had no clue what she was doing. tried to reel backwards twice and didn't know the names of anything. she thought the reel wasn't smooth because the line was on backwards. smh
  3. I took it back yesterday and got another. it is smoother and quieter than the other one but I can hear still some light noise coming from it. I don't think it is anything to fret about. I'm taking it out to a lake here in redding CA tomorrow to fish it. I'm never going to EVER buy another reel from sportsman's warehouse though because the staff don't know much about reels or anything. wish me luck with this reel and if this one has problems in the future I'm going to throw in the towel and buy a daiwa RG or something else.
  4. hey, thanks for your reply earlier it helped me make my decision.
  5. Im leaving in like 2 hours to exchange it. I would rather just exchange it anyways because it's a bit rough and hasn't got any use yet
  6. the reel is spinning BTW and it always felt like how it feels now. I didn't get to play with it in the store but I did toy with the president's on the display table and they felt great. maybe I shouldn't exchange it and instead fish it this weekend and try to break it in to see if the noise goes away. when I reel it sounds like a whirring noise coming from the bearings or it could be the gears meshing like you said. I don't know. and I don't know how to fully strip it down either. I only delved into the spool and the handle and lubricated the parts that were demonstrated on a yt video. I just hate the darn noise it irks me. side note: I lubed it with some shimago bantam oil that came with my curado K maybe I should get different lubricant and try it? i don't know I'm gonna take it back and hopefully they don't care or check if it was re lubed.
  7. Yeah but there is a problem, I looked at another thread that said to lubricate your reel as soon as you buy it. I did and I don't think I can return it because it voids the warranty I think. so I think I screwed up
  8. I bought a brand new pflueger president in the 20 size yesterday at my local sportsman's warehouse and feel like it should be more smooth. I can live with how it feels at the moment but the reviews i read all said that the reel was butter smooth. it makes a bit of noise when cranking and am wondering if mine has a dry bearing or something wrong with it. maybe I have to add more lube to the handle and spool. or maybe i just need to fish with it and see if it gets broken in. I don't know. how could I get it to be more smooth? I am not experienced with maintenance on reels so tell me what you all think
  9. So I am going to be getting a new ultralight combo for catching panfish and trout and I'm curious about others opinions on my choices for rod/reel I want to stay in the range of 150ish bucks for rod and reel combined Rod: Daiwa presso 6ft ultralight Reels: Pfluger president Pfluger president xt Daiwa RG I have seen good reviews for the rod and all the reels but I am not sure what reel to get. does anyone have experience with these reels and if so give me you thoughts please :) and also what size should I get them in?
  10. lol, I play with my cats all the time, thanks for the advice!
  11. I think I have made the decision to go with another casting combo, just a heavier rod for different applications. Then I'll go get a finesse combo later on.
  12. I looked at the 2500 series reel on daiwa''s website and saw it has only 4 lbs of drag! is that enough for finesse fishing and stuff like that?
  13. That reel is a Lil bit over budget for me, I looked at the reviews and they were mixed saying that the reel wasnt very "durable". Oh, lol by 230$ I meant rod and reel combined.
  14. So I recently got my first casting combo, now a little birdie is telling me I need another. the rod I'm using is a dobyns fury 703c which feels a bit like a medium even though the rod says MH. (reel doesn't matter). so now I either want another Dobyns fury in the 704c which would be a MH, or get a finesse spinning combo instead of another casting combo. rod for the spinning would be another fury in the 703sf. my maximum amount spent on either combo will be 230$ . so with that out of the way I would appreciate it if you guys could give some ideas of spinning and casting reels under or at 120$ to check out. and then tell me which type of rod/reel to buy thanks.
  15. Lol, just bad luck I guess.
  16. I am newer to bass fishing and have been struggling to catch any fish, I have been skunked 4 times in a row now, without a nibble. I fish from the bank most of the time. I know this time of year is tough but I have tried Football and finesse jigs, yoyoing and slow creeping spinner baits, flukes, suspending jerkbaits, grubs, wacky rigs and I still can't seem to find the fish. I really would appreciate any advice or tips.
  17. No, mine has been a joy to use it is smooth and quiet. the sound you are hearing might be if you have braid on the spool because the braid makes some noise when going through the guides. what kind of sound is this that the reel is making?
  18. so with the K your saying that a black sharpie won't leave any marks and same with the nail polish?
  19. Today I went fishing and asked my friend to hold my rod while I was fixing his reel, he set my brand new Curado K against a rock and now it has a few minute scratches. It is seriously triggering my "OCD" about this kind of stuff happening to my new equipment, especially since I just got this reel for X-mas, Any methods to get rid of those scratch marks?
