  1. Frog fishing was good, however puttin' 'em in the boat was not good! Had plenty of blowups but they weren't eating it! Landed 3 small bass, just barely hooked. Adjusted size, speed, and color but they just wouldn't eat it. Let 'em take it longer than I normally would and that didn't work either. It was still a glorious day!
  2. Sounds like a wonderful time! I love hearing your reports, fishing or exploring.
  3. 1st one is what I would like to call a 6, but can't. She weighed 5.94. Close, huh! Came back to the same brushpile an hour later and got 2nd big at 5.36. All on Ol Monster. 8 fow 80 degree water. 22 total. Quit at noon.....boilin hot and no wind.
  4. @Swamp Girl Katie, it's so hot in Iowa I'm gonna start fishing naked! 🤣 Seriously, I admire your grit!
  5. Great report, Katie! I'm sure they felt honored to be guided by you.
  6. Thanks Katie! And one of em weighed 8 pounds.......that's 4 pounds of bass and four pounds of grass!!! 🤣
  7. It was a bad day to be a Scum Frog! 29, most in a 30 yard long spot. Hard on an old mans shoulders Not a nibble on anything else!
  8. I'm dying to know: has anyone ever had braided line break? (any size). Not talking about knot failure or hooks bending or scraping it over a Ka-Bar but actually breaking. Not me. Someday I'd like to hook 2 trucks together with braid just to see if it would break. Anybody?
  9. @Swamp Girl "And I've caught 418 bass in 2026." Katie, you are an amazing angler!
  10. Carried 3 bags of Ol' Monsters in the boat. Had to go back to the truck for more! Surface temp 75. 6 fow on brush (about 1/2 of 'em had bluegill tails in their throats.

Not having any problem. I put a bait button behind the lure.

I think the urchin shines on lakes with high fishing pressure. All lures will catch bass if you put them where the bass are and move them at the right speed and depth to trigger a strike. I avoid places where there are more people than bass so no advantage for me. The lakes I fish are brushy so an exposed hook would be a PIA. The succes rate will go down as the urchin flogging rate goes up.
  13. Great write up! Anglers who aren't BR members don't know what they are missing!

Never seen the show but I will look it up. Had all the "camping" I wanted in the Army! Holiday Inn Express is roughing it for me. I prefer to be alone. I can entertain myself. I get along better with animals than I do people. Give me a dog over a human any day. I like people, I just don't want to be around them.
  15. @Swamp Girl " I rarely recommend lures simply because I don't know lures like you guys do, but if you haven't tried a Zoom Z Craw, it's a winner." I second that Katie. Trig, bladed jig and swim jig trailer, and jig trailer. I got all 3 sizes. Cheap and effective!
  16. Quit at noon after 24 on a frog. My shoulders couldn't take any more! LOVE bass fishin'!
  17. Took my friend, Hannah, today. She caught some good ones! Sad part is she hooked 4 over 5 on a frog but all pulled off. She said the frog rod I gave her was "too stiff", so she used her wimp rod cause it "casted easier". But what does an old man know?
  18. It's a good pain, Katie! Good to read your reports again! I missed ya!
  19. Fishing has been great during the outage. Photo sums it up:
  20. Thank you, Glenn and team! BR makes my day!
  21. Glorius day on the water!
  22. Several cold nights had the surface temp back to 60. Lake high and in the shoreline grass. Snagless sally, swim jig, and bladed jig caught the most. Bigger ones came flipping a pit boss on outside weed edge. This lil guy was eatin good! Always nice to catch crappie on a swim jig!
  23. If we could eliminate the knuckledraggers as easily as we eliminate the trash they leave...
  24. @MontanaBasser Great post! Bear with me as I've got a short story to tell; I was in Viet Nam in 1969. We used to visit a Montagnard village frequently. The older people were on the shy side but the kids were not. There was a lake nearby and the villagers got plenty of fish with nets and spears. I had my wife send me some fishing line and a bunch of crappie jigs, would cut some limbs for poles, and I showed those kids how to flip the jigs into the holes in the weeds and catch fish. It was as much fun for me as it was for those kids. A laughing child is a laughing child no matter where you're at!
  25. @gim The people that dissed you are probably the same people that won't pick up after themselves. I used to hunt a lot and the first thing I looked for in an area is signs (trash) of people. Same thing with fishing, if I see too much people sign (trash) I move on. I pick up what I can but if there is too much I'm turning around and leaving anyway. Sad.
