Guides are straight forward to replace, take your time. Replacing the tip top might give you trouble.

I catch catfish with a hand line. I use 20 pound mono, egg sinker, and a hook stored on a yo-yo reel. The fish fight is different when caught on a handline. No rod or reel drag to help you. Not my setup, but similar.

I have the Rainshadow REVS68UL-2SB two piece blank for panfish and small trout. I haven't had time to build it. It flexes pretty nice.

High modulus graphite are not more brittle than lower modulus graphite. Less material is used to get the same stiffness as a lower modulus material. The blank is lighter, the blank wall is thinner and more likely to break.

I got a pack of girl's hair elastic bands, without the metal part, at the dollar tree store. Place it over the upright stands to secure the blank.

I have a Demon Dock. Nice little rod for panfish and small trout. I paired it with a 1000 size reel.

Using current materials and manufacturing, ferrule design has greatly improved. Multi-piece fly rods from the 1980's casted and felt different from the single piece rods - they felt "dead". The ferrule on current two piece rods are very good, and hard to distinguish compared to the single piece rods.

Worms are good. Float bubble and fly (i.e. woolly bugger) also works.

I started watching the game during the Magic-Bird era. I'd say you're too young to have watched Jordan play.

Good point. Jordan got beat up by the likes of Laimbeer, Anthony Mason, etc. That era of the NBA was smashmouth football rules, no blood no foul. I never saw Jordan complain. Lebron flops a lot. This is from a player who's supposed to be bigger and stronger than Jordan or Kobe. It would have been fun to see LeBron go up against Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn, Anthony Mason, or Charles Oakley.
