  1. Anyone ever tried using a ribbon tail worm as a chatterbait/spinnerbait trailer? I have some zoom ol' monsters with the heads torn up, but tails in good shape. It looks like it should work...
  2. Jerkbaits in the summer. I know jerkbaits are pretty popular, but I never see anyone using them when it's 90+ degrees. ?
  3. We're thinking about moving to Greenville, SC soon. What's bass fishing like there? Are there a lot of those small bass/big numbers ponds, or more big bass/small numbers ponds? How does the bass fishing there compare to Alabama bass fishing? I fish from the bank 99% of the time, so I'll probably be fishing small ponds the majority of the time. Thanks in advance for any help.
  4. I would try a weightless senko and a ned rig. If you can't catch anything on those, I'd find a new spot.
  5. Ah, alright. Might get some of those. Thanks again.
  6. Thank you sir. Is this what you mean by "wrap around" glasses? https://amzn.to/2vk3Byz Thank you. I just finished reading those. That was really helpful.
  7. I never keep them out of the water more than 40 seconds unless it's absolutely necessary in order to get the hook out. 25 seconds is plenty of time for me to un-hook it, get a picture, and drop him back in.
  8. I have Ray-Bans. Guess I'll just wear 'em and stop worrying about it.
  9. Nah. The splash was way too small. ?
  10. You don't mean that, Mr. Frodo.
  11. The past few days that I've been fishing I've noticed that, while I'm not looking directly at the sun, the reflection off the water is usually in my peripheral vision. I wear sunglasses, but is that still bad for your eyes?
  12. There are a lot of giant bass in Alabama. It does get pretty hot though.
  13. Yeah, I have seen a lot of huge wakes in that pond before. Might be what that was. I've seen snapping turtles on the bank there. Actually caught one once. ?
  14. I don't know. I've been fishing that pond for 2 years and never seen one.
  15. Yep. It's in the middle of a subdivision though; not back in the woods or anything.
  16. I went fishing for a little while this morning. At about 7:45 or so, I saw the biggest splash I've ever seen. Imagine a truck falling into a pond from 1,000 feet in the air. That's what it looked like. The biggest thing in that lake that I know of is grass carp, but even the biggest grass carp in there couldn't have made that splash. I'm in North Alabama so I can't imagine there are any gators in that pond, but I'm starting to wonder. What do you guys think?
  17. Huh. That's interesting. Do you have trouble casting the ol' monster or is heavy enough without a weight?
  18. Thanks. Does a slower fall rate generally get more bites?
  19. Just bought a pack of zoom ol' monster plastic worms. I'm going to be texas rigging them and I'm generally fishing in about 2 - 5 feet of water. The only worm weights I have are some 3/16 ounce tungstens. Will the work for that worm, or are they just too light? Thanks.
  20. A standard EWG (or round bend) worm hook should work. Heavy duty doesn't sound necessary. And yep, a 1/0 would be great for pretty much any other soft plastic under 4 inches or smaller. For a search bait, I love spinnerbaits and ned rigs. Once you find them, a dropshot rig can be deadly. Feel free to ask me if you have any more questions.
  21. No perch in that lake, but it definitely could have been bluegill. Seemed like there was a whole school of them under that tree. I use the Z-man shroomz 1/15 oz. heads.
  22. That's what I'm thinking too. Most of the bites were at least 2 ticks.
  23. 3/0 just sounds too big for a 3"swimbait. I would go with a 1/0.
  24. I was skipping a little ned rig under laydowns today. I skipped it up under a willow tree once and immediately got a bite. I was just deadsticking it, when the line ticked, then started moving off. I tried to set the hook, but I just got my lure back. Made another skip cast and the exact same thing happened, except that little Z-man TRD was pulled almost completely off the hook. That exact thing probably happened another dozen times before I gave up and moved to the next spot. I'm 99% sure it wasn't a bass because I would've hooked it. (I can get a 90+ percent hook-up ratio with that lure) What do you guys think it was? That pond is stocked with bass, crappie, bluegill, channel cats, grass carp, and gizzard shad. I'm thinking it was probably carp or something.
