Could this work for lake trout?
Never thought vertically jigging a big tube would be the ticket for the species I'm after lol. Thanks for the info!

Could this work for lake trout?
Very good. So, my biggest rod is my medium heavy legend tournament bass. And the lake trout hold at 45-50 feet deep. Do you think a 1 oz spoon or tube jig would be heavy enough?

Could this work for lake trout?
The lake I'd be fishing for them has walleye, whitefish, and pike.

I see you both agree on white being the color! Hmmmm...

Could this work for lake trout?
I appreciate the feedback but I haaave to be missing something lol. A 1 oz jig head with a 6" paddletail on it... jigged and not retrieved? Thats all id be using as a "swimbait." So don't cast it? I'm good with the spoon thing haha.

Could this work for lake trout?
Awesome info man, thanks a lot. So I can vertical jig that spoon? I'm still lost on how you're describing the jig. My initial question was about adding a paddletail to a jig. Are you saying to add an artifical bait to the actual spoon? Haha sorry I just want to be on the same page. What all is being used on this jig set up?

Wow, thanks a lot Dwight. That is a great picture! What did that brute weigh? Can I trouble you for any advice on spoon selection? And what exactly do you mean by tip the jig? Sorry I've never heard it worded that way before.

How many rods is too many?
I cover 80% of my fishing with 4 combos. 2 spinning, 2 casting. The remaining 20% will be complete when I decide which heavy rod I'm going to buy. Right now I have ML through MH. You have to tie a few more knots the fewer rods you have, but I don't mind. I don't mind not having to go so far down that rabbit hole thinking "crap, I'm fishing for crappie, this rod should be 2 inches longer and they'll totally see this 6 pound mono." Nonsense. I'm not trying to start a fire here but I'm also not a tournament or commercial fisherman. The way I see it is this... bigger house, more furniture to fill it, more to clean, more space unused. I've always subscribed to keeping it simple though. Just my opinion of course. Everyone's got one. Take care.

Could this work for lake trout?
I'm going to northern Ontario in June. Basically, I want to try casting for big deep lakers since we are noobs and downrigging last year didn't go as expected. They were holding at 45-50 feet deep in a bay of 100-120 feet deep. My plan is to try casting swimbaits for them. I was thinking a 5-6" paddletail (strike king, BPS speed shad) on a 3/4-1oz jig head. Do you guys think bombing a long cast, then gently thumbing the spool so the bait tends to sink more than swinging back to the boat, work? Then just vary my retrieves? I could also do the same presentation with spoons, and maybe even something grub shaped? I would just need to time the countdown correctly. My dilemma is I don't have much experience casting heavier baits in big open water. Maybe it's a lack of confidence thing. 99% of the time I've ever been in a boat it's either been jigging in 20 feet of water or casting in 10 feet of water. Any input? It's very appreciated. Thanks!

what technique have you never tried?
Honestly I’ve never tried the float-n-fly. Want to try it sometime soon but I just don’t get it.

Stradic CI4+ vs FK smoothness
CI4. Quiet, smooth, and effortless to use.

Spinning setup ideas
My vote is also for the sahara. Honestly, quite hard to beat at that price point. I’ve also heard good things about that new $70 abu garcia reel (forget what its called). The duckett ghost, st croix bass x, or the dobyns would be great choices for rods.

Been to BPS in the last year?!
I was there for an hour and a half the other day and didn’t not hear it. Its super loud and the one kid i know there said everyone wants it gone. I doubt they can just tune it out. Anyway, just asking.

Been to BPS in the last year?!
YOU DON’T. WANT. THE SHAKES!! Anyone know what I’m talking about? I feel so bad for the employees that have to put up with that Lure Lock display and that stupid video that is 14 seconds long and on a constant loop. I’ve debated not even going back there until that display is gone. Just thought I’d rant because it’s obnoxious. Wanted to see if anyone else experiences this at their store. Random post, I know. Anyone else?

Do you prefer ML or M for smallmouth? Baits for each?
I have both the 6'6 M and ML regular avid. For what you're describing, go ML. Especially because St Croix does run a bit heavy. My M handled 28" walleye and 18-20" river smallies in current pretty well. Given these are exceptions, the ML is perfect for everything smaller.

What rod to buy more versatile than my LTB 63mxf?
For vertical jigging walleye my 6’6 medium fast avid, 10# braid, 6’ leader with a 1/4oz jig was a great set up for me.

Some Observations from BPS
My latest BPS experience... ”Sir just curious if I could check out the tatula SV in the 8:1. “Well do you have our credit card? You know-“ ”Bye.” But for real, I was looking at the SLX too. I probably would have bought one if they didn’t go with the big high school looking logo on it. Definitely a sweet little reel though.

Help with new techniques?
Well, the river is basically open water. A couple lay downs but I just cast next to them. My aunts place same thing, just casting open water above the weeds. Canada, 20 feet deep on average for walleyes. Of course every other fish is a pike on a moving bait though.

Help with new techniques?
Hey everybody, I've been getting super confused reading articles and watching videos so I'm going to attempt to streamline the info by asking you guys. Any feedback is very appreciated. I want to get better with swimbaits and jerkbaits. I know for swimbaits you can do the standard exposed jig hook, or a weighted belly weedless hook. I want to fish both as there is a time and place for both. Most of my fishing is in 2' deep rivers (for smallmouth, walleye, and muskie), at my aunts place which I troll 10' of water (for largemouth, pike, and bowfin), and I'd like to try throwing them this summer in Canada (for walleye, pike, and lake trout). I figure a 1/4 ounce presentation should cover all of that except for Canada. The lake trout stack up at 45-50' deep mark. So I guess the question is, any recommendations for getting started? Hook and weight? Solid body, hollow body? Not looking to drop $100 on this experiment. Also, any recommendations for jerkbaits for the above scenarios? If I'm 15-20' deep in Canada would a red eye shad be better suited? Thanks!

Fast or x fast?
All fast actions for me. I dont have anything else.

Which spinning reel to pair with my new St Croix Legend Elite 6'10" ML?
Earlier in the year I got a stradic ci4 in the 2500 size for my 6'6 medium light st croix avid. I felt like the 1000 was a bit too small.

My 3 Combos. Thoughts?
Update: I ordered a 7.2:1 shimano citica for the 6'8 medium fast LTB. Putting 12 pound mono on it. Should be a dandy set up!

My 3 Combos. Thoughts?
Sadly I am aware haha. I have some old stuff that's been getting it done for how infrequently I go. Some day.

My 3 Combos. Thoughts?
Any thoughts on which line I should put on that medium fast? I think I'm going to get a citica or curado for it.
