Nothing beats a frog bite. But favorite style is pitching a jig in cover. It’s becomes a brain game pin pointing what spots to hit or not. Then you get that spongey feeling of a 5 pounder

Lots of Lilly pads here in Mississippi. General rule of thumb is they stop growing in 5-6 ft of water. A small drop off at the edges if you will. From my experience I’ve always caught larger bass on the outer half of the pads. It is my opinion that smaller fish start tucked in tight for protection and to eat small baitfish/bugs while the larger fish roam the deeper edges for food.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t tied line to the spool in over a decade. I just stick it through the hole and start reeling. I know it’s not proper but I’ve never had any issues.

I like Falcon rods because they are more moderate-fast than fast. They load up very well and just have a “feel” that I like. The head turner and amistad models specifically

I have this rod in the Legend Tourn Bass series and it’s an amazing top water rod for spooks and poppers. I also throw smaller buzzbaits on it

I have a st croix legend bass that I got from their online sales rack that has minor guide alignment issues. Figured that’s why it was $180 and haven’t noticed any issues. Had it been full price it would’ve perturbed me

Most waters here are shallow with lots of cover so personally rods are more important than reels. I prob pitch more than cast most days on the water and rarely ever bomb baits. So I’ll take the 25% off a $250 rod and buy a $100 special reel off eBay

I have the LFS and Tournament MB. The MB is without a doubt nicer. It has dual braking, increases drag, and audible knob clicks where the LFS does not. Both are great though. I actually fish the LFS more often

Every company has a different opinion on what MH and H is. You are better off looking at the lure weight rating. For example Kistler MH is rated at 1/4-1oz and Dobyns MH 1/4-3/4oz. You will likely want something that goes from around 3/8 to at least 1 oz Everyone has different opinions on jig rods. Personally I like a more moderate action to keep the rod loaded up. I have found that I lose less fish this way. After trying multiple jig rods I settled on the Falcon Cara. It just fit me and my style the best. Try to handle as many as possible before buying though. One will likely stand out above the rest to you.

From my experience you really cannot go wrong in this price range. What types of water/cover will you be fishing? What size jigs? You will want to find a rod that compliments these

Loosen up your spool tension and brakes. Also adjust your launch angle to to 3/4

I have the same rod that has been abused for 15 years now. Still use it today mainly for spinnerbaits. It’s my beater that I throw in the back of the truck and my go to pond hopper. All around great versatile rod

Really depends on line you’re using. If you are tying a 20 lb leader to 65 lb braid then the knot is going to be much larger than a 12 lb leader to 30 lb braid. I fish the later on micro guides without any issues. The clicking is annoying at first but you get used to it. Every once in a while the knot will catch and throw you a little offline but it’s not a big deal Honestly I can’t tell any advantage of micro guides. The weight difference is not noticeable and sensitivity seems to be the same. Just my .02

What are some rods you love that get no publicity? It seems with so many offerings a lot of really nice gear flies under the radar. I love Falcon Cara rods. Very light and sensitive American made rods for $200. In fact I like it better than some of my more expensive rods. You just never hear anything about them.

Id adjust knob on left plate to 12 and adjust knob on right to where the lure falls slowly and the spoil stops when it hits the ground. Tighten drag until you can just barely pull it but that depends on line, depth, structure, etc. That’s a good starting point though
