Squarebill Crankbait Rod Suggestions...???
another vote for the dobyns 705cb. It was recommend to me by several members on this site. I use it for anything with trebles not just squarebills.

Budget friendly recommendation for crank rod?
I bought a Dobyn's Fury 705CB a few weeks ago. 7' MH/M and it was recommend by several here. They were right.

Braid on a Baitcaster
If I had my way I would have one for every technique but the misses and kayak storage won't allow it.

Maryland's Who's who!
Drove up to lake centennial this morning. The conditions weren't spectacular (overcast, slick calm and rain on and off) but landed a small LMB and missed two nice ones due to bad hook sets.

Braid on a Baitcaster
Update Everyone!!!!! Went out for a few hours this morning and it was a huge success. The bps reel is working great now with the new adjustments. I was worried I would lose casting distance have tighter spool tension but I think it is actually farther. I made the same adjustments on the Shimano and even better results. I spent a lot more time fishing instead of digging out bird nests. Only landed one fish but missed two nice ones due to bad hook sets.

Maryland's Who's who!
I dropped my yak in Mattawoman State Natural Environmental Area last weekend. That was my first experience with "heavy cover". I fished Myrtle Grove main pong last weekend. It was a grind. Gilbert Run is a little farther down to 225 right? I would to meet up with fellow yakers.

Maryland's Who's who!
I'm will to drive 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I'm mostly in to LMB. I don't have a rod set up for real thick heavy cover. I only have 10 lb mono on my 6'6 mh baitcaster.

Maryland's Who's who!
fellow md anglers, I am in need of some new fishing spots. I live in Calvert. I mostly fish in St. Mary's lake. Last weekend I tried the potomac river north of smallwood but I am not equipped to be fishing in the heavy cover that's up there. Also rivers can be a rough ride in a kayak depending on conditions.

Grassy bottom
I don't have the terminal tackle for a drop shot. It is on the list of things to get. I also have been looking heavily into swim jigs and trailers.

Braid on a Baitcaster
So I did some more research and I am starting to think it is adjustments and my inexperience more than anything. I previously had the cast control set to where the bait just starts to fall. A few things I watched and read said for a beginner to go one or two clicks tighter than that. I made the new adjustments and we will try them out this weekend. Thanks again for all the advice.

Braid on a Baitcaster
specifics are 6'6 mh fast johnny morris carbonlite 2.0 combo with 10 lb Trilene XL. I rarely throw anything under 1/2 oz for this reason but it is not working. When casting I try not to flick the wrist I noticed for me that causes backlash. And I don't go for the home run derby swing. I personally don't care about casting distance. I'll cast as many times as I need too. Thanks for all the tips guys! Both baitcaster are less then 6 months old. Heck my Shimano I have only had for a few weeks. I have a very rare backlash on that one both with same line. I will tend to agree with practice as I am certainly no pro. Fishingmickey, I do fish from a kayak. I will definitely try this next time out.

Braid on a Baitcaster
That reel was spooled at a local tackle before I learned how to do it myself. It is my all purpose rod. basically everything that doesn't have treble hooks. Instantly maybe a bit much. It coils up enough to where tying a knot is a chore. I completely agree. I believe the cast control is tuned to me but not sure about the dual braking system. Line is cheap I might just re-spool it with more XL and see what gives.

Braid on a Baitcaster
Thanks guys! you all confirmed my fear not to switch to braid. As far as the cause, I'm not sure. I have 2 baitcasters. 1 bps carbonlite 2.0 and a brand new Shimano Caenen 150a. Both have the same line Trilene XL 10lb from the same spool. The bps reel does the majority of the backlashing. I feel pretty confident that the cast control is adjusted properly but the dual brake not sure. When the line comes off the reel any slack instantly twists and coils.

Grassy bottom
Thanks Tom. This is why I come here, you guys know so much

Grassy bottom
I would consider it more junk grass. It is super dense

Grassy bottom
thanks guys! I have all of those and never think to bring them. My kayak doesn't have a lot of storage so I have to be selective with what I take.

Grassy bottom
Hello fellow anglers, A lot of the water I fish here in MD has a grassy bottom. I catch lots of it. What kind of lures would you guys suggest? I use t rigs, squarebills, swing heads, jigs, ned, wacky, neko and swimbaits. Everything seems to get caught in grass.

Braid on a Baitcaster
hello fellow anglers, After a few weekends of lots of backlash and twisted line the mono on my baitcasters has gone to go. I spend more time undoing bird nests than fishing. I've seen a few youtube anglers that use braid on their baitcasters. I'm no pro but won't braid break off instead of bird's nesting? Or does anybody have a recommendation for a low memory line?

Bass Pro Rods
I too got the carbonlite 2.0 combo on sale in Feb. It's my first baitcaster so I have nothing to compare it to. It is light and sensitive even with mono on it. I got it in 6'6 because they were sold out of 7' but I wish I took the rain check they offered me.
