Drinking the lake or stream water in the time of need.
Guess that explains why the tap water taste better now that the lake level is up 20ft or so. I'm about 2.6 miles as the crow flies away from the lake. I'd imagine they at least do some form of treatment before it gets to my house.

Drinking the lake or stream water in the time of need.
Always wondered if people are brave enough to drink the water. I'm in CA and my closest lake is Lake Perris which I doubt I'd drink the water. I'm sure there are places that are safe but often wondered if people are brave enough to do it as it doesn't take much to taint the water. I was looking at the prime day deals hoping to score a deal on a fishing pole or maybe some swim bait or two that I'd like to purchase....Nothing caught my eye. They do have the LifeStraw on special for $9.99 for the next 12hrs or so. I figured for the price I'd pick one up and throw it in the Yak for the just in case scenario. Anybody use one before? Sounds like it would work in a pinch.

Action Cameras GoPro or something else ?
Nice! Looks like you also thought about it for a while before making your purchase....Willpower also comes in handy when the fish aren't biting so it's a nice trait to have....lol

Boat project pretty much finished!
The angle of the photo made it look like the deck goes all the way to the rear bench. Looking at the frame photo and other photos again I see that it doesn't. I'm guessing it was a fun project to kill some of the time that you couldn't spend on the lake.

Nice. When under way you just sit in the back facing backwards/sideways while looking over your shoulder?

Having trouble with landing a Fish while in my Kayak
I keep the Bass Pro shops gold series folding landing net (GSF25-35) behind my seat for those times of need. Easy to one hand flip open with practice and it's large enough to scoop up a world record size bass if needed. I use it more like a coral or safety net and don't lift the fish out of the water with it. The handle is long enough to reach into the water while resting on the side of the kayak so I just kind of lift it up from under the fish and rest my arm on it as I put my rod down. It usually goes on sale during the spring and fall for $20. Mixed reviews but I don't see anything wrong with the model I purchased in the end....Other than it likes to grab treble hooks just like most nets.

Kayak?
Maybe they'll take less than what they asked. Craigslist is haggle city for the most part. Just look for the older listings an ask if it's still available. If so just say your interested but it's a little out of your price range. They'll then ask for an offer. You'll offer and they'll accept or they'll counter offer....Just like on american pickers.

September vacation to NorCal kayak fishing.
Thanks! I'll take a another look at the lake. Does lake have tweaker issues? My PB for smallmouth is 0lb as I've never caught one. My PB for Spots 4lb. My preference towards Spots is due to their aggresive behavior. I really enjoy the way they strike and fight. Smallmouth I'd be down for as from what I see are spotless spot like.

Crankbait rod and reel
I'm using a 6'6" med fast vendetta throwing mainly lipless cranks. Always get the bigger ones in with it. With the little feisty ones sometimes it's the Jimmy Houston professional quick release as he calls it.

St Croix Mojo Yak series rods
What about the carbon reinforced tips for the high sticking scenarios? Length seems fine too me as it makes it easier when the fish goes from one side to the other of the yak during the fight.

St Croix Mojo Yak series rods
Looks like an interesting line for those of us that Yak the lakes and rivers. Only downside I see is the launch date is most likely going to be later than my September vacation. I've been looking to upgrade my cheaper spinning combos to do some finesse type fishing but am now probably going to hold off. Maybe I'll just pick up a cheap longer rod to hold me over on my vacation. https://stcroixrods.com/blogs/news/all-yak-all-day These look like nice rods too me at least. Any thoughts?

Bait caster line
I just use green 30lb straight braid on my baitcasters as it's a compromise on strength and line diameter. I figure no need for a leader with the small diameter of the braid when I'm 99% of the time throwing a reaction bite type lure anyways.

ICAST 2018 - Pedal Kayaks - Pelican, Riot, etc. (Title Change)
The Riot Mako price point looks good. Been trying to get my brother out on the water with me. Maybe it'll entice him. The new St Croix Mojo Yak series rods kind of caught my eye as I already have a Yak.

September vacation to NorCal kayak fishing.
That lake is currently on my radar. What part of it is considered the Narrows? It does look like there would be kayak access from multiple areas which is a plus. I just don't want to have to peddle mile after mile to get to some decent spots but don't really mind it if I wind up doing a 6-7 mile round trip outing in the end. I will mostly be fishing wherever it is on the weekdays and doing my travel up on Sunday and my travel back on Saturday.

Places/Websites to buy a used bassboat
Nothing more than there are multiple new boat offering under that price range. It's really up to the purchaser if they meet there needs or not. There are a lot of variables on bass boats that can factor in for the end user. Things like rod lockers, storage compartments, electronics, engine, trolling motors, boat layout, etc can sway one from one boat to another for example.

They just deploy the anchor in the heat of the battle....That would really suck.

Backing needed or not?
You need a knot. Just tie thru holes and be done with it. Braid slip is no fun with a knot. I see a nasty thumb blister in your future if you hook a feisty one.

September vacation to NorCal kayak fishing.
I'm leaning towards lake hopping for week. Couple days/nights at possibly 3 starting on the Sunday the week I pick. Looking at lakes still and debating. I know New Malones has easy kayak access from campground with decent areas not far away. Not sure about other lakes yet.

Losing fish on Ned rig
And here all these years I thought it was because they can't growl.

Kayak?
I'd be keeping an eye on your local craigslist or some of the apps available on phones for a good deal. Looks like a lot of new models are dropping so maybe you'll be able to find somebody that's looking for a quick sale on a nicer one.

Losing fish on Ned rig
When used correctly you should be good to go. I'm not really into finesse type fishing for the most part. I guess I should give it a try more often. I only really drop to it if I fear the skunk. I fish for fun so the numbers don't really matter to me as long as I'm enjoying my time on the water.

Help On Baitcast Rod Purchase..and Reel for that matter
Maybe a better option would be 1 reel and 2 rods? You could just put the reel on the rod that is best suited for the bait your wanting to throw at the time.
-
What is your favorite finesse tactic?
I don't really enjoy finesse type fishing at all. I've tried the ned rig a couple of times and caught 2 dinks with 1 of them being the smallest bass I've ever caught. I guess I've had my best luck finesse style fishing with the shaky head setup so far. I think I was more born to grind crankbaits as it's really the only way I love to fish. Hit or miss but that doens't matter to me. I did catch my largest Spot (4lb)on a shakey head setup. Caught a LMB on a shaky head that was around 6lbs.
