Spinning Rod Assistance
Use the medium for smaller treble hook lures. Use mono leader if topwater. Would also work for Ned rigs or weightless flukes. The medium/heavy would work for your t-rigs, weightless senkos, and shaky heads. I use an Ike Series 7’2” medium spinning with a Revo stx30 and 20# braid to whatever leader and it’s pretty versatile, but it’s rated 1/16-1/2oz.

abu garcia revo 4 sx
3 weeks ago I went on amazon to see what prices were on stuff and saw the Revo SX HS for $44. I texted my wife the link and said BUY IT! I was actually thinking it must be the gen 3 model so about 20 minutes later I went back and looked at the link I sent and it was indeed the gen 4 and was back up to $120. Luckily she ordered it in time.

Need a Smallmouth rod
I have a 7’ Medium 2 piece cherrywood and I would say it’s more of a moderate action. But for $20-$25 it can’t hurt to try it. It probably won’t have the sensitivity like a lightning rod would have though. I should add add that I haven’t used this rod hardly at all and haven’t caught a fish on it but I could cast small inline spinners with it just fine. I bought it as a cheap travel just in case rod. I’ve also read its guides don’t handle braid well.

What type line would you use for the following setups/applications:
Braid + leader for versatility. Alberto knot is what I like and my leader length is such that the knot never goes into the reel. I can change lures easier and not keep cutting into my main line braid except when changing leaders. A 5-6 foot leader will last a while until too short or just needing a different type of leader. I use 20# braid to usually an 8# fluoro leader on my medium/fast spinning, and I have 30# braid to 12# fluoro on a baitcaster. I can use a mono leader if I want to use topwater lures. I have no issues with the Alberto knot going through the guides.

Which Veritas
There is a 7’6” winch model that is moderate action, but I’m looking at 2 different regular veritas models, one is medium heavy fast and one is medium heavy, moderate fast and is the frog model. I’m thinking that I should get the moderate fast frog model, because originally I was looking at getting the IRod Fred’s magic stick as a versatile do all rod. But since I got a good deal on an SX Revo I started looking at the veritas. A lot of people say the Irod does many things well, and it has a moderate fast action. I guess my question for anyone who knows is, how does the veritas moderate fast compare to the Fred’s magic stick and would it work ok for the techniques I mentioned in my original post?

Anyone a Yucatan Knot user?
Exactly! So I just tried 30# power pro with the 12# big game and used 6 wraps and it held. Whether the line size, wraps, or I just got the cinch down right I don’t know but it worked. Probably still I’ll use the Alberto lol.

Guess it’s just not my knot. Used longer tags to pull with. Actually looked pretty good but leader still slipped. 20# Berkeley braid to 12# big game. Maybe it’s my braid size? Just using what was left on a spool.

I used 7. Diagram shows 6 but I do 7 for all my knots. Lucky number. I might’ve just been having a hard time pulling the tag on the leader tight enough(or keeping tight) before cinching the mainline braid. Even so I think I’ll stick with the Alberto. But I like tying knots and wanted to try this for fun more than anything. Haven’t tried the FG but it looked more complicated than I wanted.

I tried the diagram in otters post just now multiple times and the leader kept slipping out. If I swap the leader and mainline and use that method I end up with what looks like an Alberto just tied the opposite way. But that’s the only way I could get it to hold. Tried 20# braid with both 20# fluoro and 6# mono. I use the alberto knot myself and haven’t ever had issues and goes through guides just fine. Funny thing is swapping the lines when I tried the Yucatán my knot seemed smaller than my Albertos using 7 wraps with each.

So I’m looking for a versatile casting rod to go with my gen 4 sx that I just got. I realize I maybe trying to ask to much from one setup but I only want 2 setups with me on the kayak. I have an Ike Series 7’2” Medium spinning rod now with 20# braid to appropriate leader that covers most anything up to 1/2 oz. The veritas models I’m looking at are the 7’6” mh, but is available in a fast and moderate fast and both have a 3/8-1 1/4 oz range. I’d like to use this for frogs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, Buzzbaits, swimbaits, jigs, and c-rigs. I’d also like to use some deeper crankbaits (5 and 6xds) as well. I’m leaning towards the moderate fast to accommodate the crankbaits and moving baits and maybe bigger topwaters, plus it is actually referred to as the frog model, but I am worried it would be too moderate for bottom baits. I haven’t had a chance to look at these in person and not sure anywhere close would have to mod/fast in stock. Hoping someone has some experience with these. My reel is the 7.3:1 model. I’m newly registered on here, but been lurking these forums for over a year now learning a lot. Thanks in advance.

ABU IKE 7"2' MF Spinning rod
I’ve had one for a little over a year. It’s my main rod that I try to do a little bit of everything with. I have a Revo STX30 on it, and I’ve used both braid/leader and straight fluorocarbon. It’s a little on the stiffer side like abu’s are known for but works for me. I’ve used it for just about anything 1/2 oz and less, and the only finesse technique I haven’t tried is the drop shot.
