  1. Helium 3, that’s a Kistler right? I’ve heard mixed reviews on Kistlers in general but also could be differing models of theirs, I’m not familiar with their line up. I’ve had good experiences with st croix, but in my experience they tend to be a little tip heavy in some models ( could be a past issue as my newest st croix is from 2015)
  2. I should have mentioned I’m really looking for a technique specific rod to really fill a niche, in this case a jig/worm rod, later I’d like to get a dropshot rod aswell, I appreciate your suggestion and I’ll for sure look into it!
  3. I’m in the process of upgrading my gear currently and I’m looking at rod brands, more specifically looking to get an E6X from g Loomis, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these rods and if they’re really worth the 200 dollar price tag, I’ve held several in person as well as a buddies Nrx, I’m not quite willing to make the step to an Nrx but willing to test the waters with the E6x, Any input is much appreciated!
  4. In 15 years of fishing I had never lost or broken a rod, 3 weeks ago I had a rod tip break on me and in those weeks since ive lost one combo (luckily fairly cheap) over the side of the boat, broke my ned rig/dropshot rod, snipped the tip of my swim jig rod off in the tailgate... in a span of three weeks
  5. Just saw this post sadly so i cant help you but i will say that for the past few weeks the fish have been shallow but as of this weekend i couldnt get a bite up shallow, they appeared to have really moved off shore quite heavy, i believe this is from the amount of fishing pressure and the fact that the wake boaters have come out in force therefore blowing out much of the shallow cover.
  6. Last year I was fishing the B.A.S.S Highschool state championship and after I was trying to retrieve my popper off of a boat cover I had a very irate home owner loudly proclaim that he had a concealed carry on him and if I did anything suspicious to his boat he was not afraid to "protect his property" My boat captain was a retired vet who had served 2 tours in Iraq and 1 Afghanistan, he told the owner that not only was he threatening a two minors who were not on his property it was also not advised to make threats like that as he could find him self on the wrong end of a P***** Off vet who didn't take kindly to people with egos that needed to be checked. I should say that we weren't too threatened as he had come out of his house in a bathrobe and bare footed. This occurred on lake Norman in Nc and it was the only time we had an issue with a homeowner, I fish lake Gaston and Kerr lake quite often and have never had a similar issue. People like that gentleman there are the reason fisherman give bad raps to people who simply dont like people fishing around their docks, yes i was in the wrong as I had snagged his boat cover because of a bad cast, however had he asked me what I was doing and why I was messing with his boat I could have explained it to him and he would have had no reason to make such an empty and ignorant threat.
  7. Kvd 1.5 in Tennessee shad, year round fish catcher, dirty or stained
  8. According to the dealer it is on consignment through, it was always garage kept and if he couldn't get somewhere indoors to store it when traveling he had a heavy duty cover for it to ride under. It has a stainless prop (didn't list pitch) It has a hot foot So far as i'm aware the guy bought the boat in 2008 and it was his boat until he just recently decided to upgrade. unsure if it has a hydraulic jack plate.
  9. Around what hours on a gas boat motor that things really start to go down hill, I found nice boat for a reasonable price, just to find that the motor has 422 hours on it, its an 07 skeeter skeeter zx225 with an 07 yamaha Vmax 225. To me 422 hours seems like its sure seen its life, but on the other hand if she has run this long it leads me to believe that she has been well taken care of to keep going as much as it has... opinions, thoughts any help is appreciated. Thanks
  10. The rage menace is my favorite bed bait by far, give it a try. also works wonders if youre swimming a jig around grass
  11. Im not an expert, however I do know for a fact rangers don't have wooden transoms (atleast 1990 and newer) and I believe that triton doesn't have wooden transoms either, but im not 100% sure on that.
  12. I will grab the photos off the internet when i get home tonight and post them, the boat is priced at 13,500 its on consignment through a boat dealership it comes with two different boat covers. Might be going to look at it this weekend, the boat has 177 hrs on the motor
  13. I was looking at an 18ft triton online and had some pretty generic questions about the boat. Its a 2007 model Tr 186 single console comes with a mercury 150 (assumed to be 07 as well). I was wondering if anyone had experiences with this model of boat or 18ft tritons in general, I've heard from some people that the older 18ft tritons chinewalk like crazy and are death traps, other people have said they're the roughest riding boat but very fast for there size, and one of my buddies absolutely loves his trx. So its kinda hard to get a clear picture of how these boats perform and if its worth my time to go look at. Any information is appreciated. Side note- If i purchase this boat it will be my first "performance" boat and will be my first time really driving a bass boat.
  14. A wooden transom could definitely be an issue if its been sat outside or exposed to the elements for any long period of time. I notice you said its in great shape which probably means it was either kept indoors or under a cover at the very least. I would take a look at the transom and look for any signs of wetness near the base or along the edges of the transom, any soft spots are an immediate indication that its started to rot and you should either steer clear or just accept that it will need replaced.
  15. I feel like there was a thread brought up about fishing baits in weird ways, and this was discussed maybe someone else will remember the exact thread but know of a few people who put them on the back of jigs for a different presentation.
  16. That was back in march, jordan and falls lake were really hot same with harris, I fish all of these lakes and they can be good to you but you can also go out and fish for 10 hrs and not have a bite... Right now the bite down here is off but a few of the thursday night tournaments have had fish over 8lbs weighed in.
  17. A bizz baits dizzy diamond works wonders on a neko, also they have a new Mag. Dizzy diamond. The dizzy diamond is similar to a trick worm but a little more beefy, also the tail end will float basically vertical.
  18. So far as i know they rebuilt the powerhead. so with these motors they sound like they were reliable with one big "BUT" as you said, should i bring this into consideration when talking to the dealer? Im fairly confident in my ability to check for rot and other major red flags, I agree that the price is up there but at the same time were talking a ranger boat, the gel coat looks amazing, the floor has no soft spots and the carpet is in pretty good condition, im definitely going to try my best to talk them down in price as i honestly dont see it being worth as much as listed but Ill bring up my concerns and if we make a deal we make a deal and if not theres always another boat.
  19. Ive heard that @Way2slow is the guy when it comes to older Omc motors, however i'm looking for some input, I am currently looking at boats, one i have in mind is a 91 ranger 481v it comes with a 91 Johnson 150 fast strike, the boat is exceptionally clean for its age, however the motor just had the power head rebuilt and even though it comes with a 1 year warranty im a little hesitant to pull the trigger. Is that something I should be worried about?? The boat is listed for 11,500 on the dealers website, it come with two fish finders (one Lowrance and one Humminbird) an 80 lb thrust Minnkota fortrex and a 3 bank charger. according to the Nada value its about right on but i have concerns with the hull, through pictures (i havent looked in person yet) the hull has no keel guard and some scratches on it like it was used to beach it up on sand or maybe even gravel, None of them look like theyre anything more than cosmetic though. Just looking for yall's opinions and feed back Thanks, Austin
  20. ahh okay, i was under the understanding that they did but had outsourced the building.
  21. I heard that the engineers who designed the "speed spool" series used to work at shimano, i just looked this up to verify and i cant find anything online abt it but another member on this forum brought it up in some long forgotten thread. So im not sure how true his statement was. i got a replacement spool and reel handle from lews in 4 days.... 12 dollars in total not under warranty either just called up and told them what i needed.
  22. From what ive heard is that its on the tail end of the spawn and the fish are pulled out a little bit, fishing jigs or t-rigs off of points seems to be producing. also going towards where the Alamance river feeds in throwing topwaters early and switching to cranks appears to be good.
  23. ^^ Cant stress this enough, Ive got in the habit of checking mine regularly after finding that two of my most used rods had guides with little burrs on them that were causing nicks. My dad is the most stubborn fisherman youve ever met and he throws straight braid exclusively on spinning rods, his shaky head set up is 30lb braid and he wont go any lighter because "he could get me all wrapped up in a rock or brush and the braid aint gonna give up" ? He hates leader just because "its another chance at a knot slipping or failing"
